What's the fucking point of these things when you can just buy a cheapshit tablet
>>
>>54173850

Why buying a cheapshit tablet when you can buy a cheapshit laptop?

That calculator has more battery than any tablet (I'm getting 3 to 4 weeks of usage from one charge) and the UI is designed exclusively for mathematics purposes with nice buttons instead of on screen keyboard, that's why.

I fell for the thinkpad meme
it hurts so much
spent like 1000€ for t440s
people at uni all have either asus, macbook or surface pro that are 30x lighter, thiner, just work and are not as loud as an airplane
>>
>>54173730
I understand that the 50G has its problems, but nigga, reading a manual isn't going to fucking kill you. RPN is fantastic, and algebraic mode on any calculator is clunky as fuck. There's plenty of third party programs for everything that you don't want to program yourself.

Complaining about the 50G and calling anybody who likes it autistic is like saying that GarageBand is good enough and everybody who uses ProTools needs to fuck off.
>>

The thinkpad meme is buying 6 year old thinkpads, you stupid fuck.
I have 5 of them and I spent less than $600 for all of them put together.
>>
>>54174087
If RPN clicks for you, it will be significantly easier and will have a minimal learning curve almost immediately. It's not for everybody but it's very possible the RPN workflow would make a lot more sense to you.

Are there any programmable calculators that use Lisp? Scheme, Racket, a minimal CL, whatever. I'd love a programmable calculator if all I needed was a cheatsheet function list. The 48's buttons are not nearly as clicky as the 50's buttons. This is not a bad thing though, IMO, I definitely like the 48 buttons better because they are raised more and require less force to press, while still being tactile. I don't really want to say they are more squishy than than the 50 buttons because that sounds like a bad thing, but that's the only way I can think to describe it.

Who even uses calculators after high school anymore for anything other than exams? Why is the choice of calculators such a big deal for some?

Why would anyone buy a hp calculator now when you can get an emulator for 12c, hp48 series, etc on your phone and it doesn't even require downloading roms like TI emulators do?
>>
>>54186703
My phone has a tiny screen and I prefer real things anyway
>>
>>54186670
CS, actually.
>>
>arch
>mechanical keyboard
I used these before i went to /g/ for the first time.
>>
>>54184945
That Casio bottom right tho. I have two around here somewhere, would be Lord and Savior tier if it had mod or bitwise xor
>>
>>54178460
I was sort of surprised when my 50g came and saw a non-slide case. Kind of gay since it's like twice the size of my ti-89 in my backpack.
>>
What's the cheapest, decent scientific calculator that supports RPN? Can't use my 50g in an upcoming class.
>>
>>54187444
The best used HP you can get
RPN isn't cheap senpai
>>
>>54173730
Indeed. Graphing calculators were obsolete already in the early 90s when matlab and maple were readily available commercially. And if you needed a graphing calculator for your exams your school is probably third rate.

Otherwise /g/ memes I fell for was arch but this was back in 2006 or 2007. While they have a nice manuals it was just a chore to use and it was very unstable.

The 35s comes to mind. It's a remake of the original 35. People are generally happy with it I think but it has some bugs last I've heard.
If you don't mind spending a little more, look at Swiss Micros HP clones, I have heard good things about those.
If you don't mind spending a fuck ton, look on eBay for old HPs.

The truth is that the only kind of mathematics they do is simple addition and multiplication. The only time they whip it out is when they are going to split the bill.

People that actually do math use the programs in >>54180114. Or like me write highly parallel algorithms in Fortran with MPI or OpenMP and then run it on a supercomputer.
>>
>>54187483
there's an RPN app on the android store that's free
>>
>>54187800
You can also get emulators to emulate most HP's, but that's an emulator, not a calculator
Definitively best to try out RPN in one of those things before splurging for an HP or similar RPN calculator
>>
>>54187823
OS X's got an RPN mode for the calculator app as well
>>
>>54184561
But that is usually a lot faster than starting a calculator.
>>
>>54188397
This is bait, right?
>>
>>54173850
You can't use your tablet on the test.
>>
>>54188544
If you are allowed to use a graphing calculator on a test you are still in high school and your high school sucks.

I fell for the Moto g meme and got the 4G a while ago

Piece of shit hardware with shit battery life and shit camera and shit update promises from Motorola that never came
At the very least I didn't buy the regular MotoG without SD or 4G

For nearly the same price I could have got (and later did) such a better phone
>>
>>54174089
You did it completely wrong fuckface. The idea behind thinkpads is that you can get them cheap (200-300 USD) and they work much better than a brand new 200 dollar laptop. If you were going to spend around 1000€ you should have gotten an actually good laptop, such as Asus.
>>
>>54189941
Fell for the Moto G2 myself

Moto G as well but it was ok. G2 was just a failure.

We should start a support group. Not depicted but I fell for the "dual boot gnu/linux and never use it" meme.

>I fell for the "dual boot gnu/linux and never use it" meme.
I fell for the "use linux as a VM host and run windows with pci passthrough for gaymen". I never use the linux part because honestly windows and its applications just works and looks better. So I kind of got a windows computer with reduced speed because I have dedicated 2 cores out of 6 to the host.

Whatever you can't do with a TI-36 you should do in Matlab, Python or Excel

We were only allowed to use FE approved calculators in college and half of the time we weren't allowed to use calculators.
>>
>>54191609
im not that guy but I agree with him, if you can use that calc on exams you school sucks
>>
>>54190779
I'm sorry for your effort.

I never really owned a calculator. Starting college this fall. Would the HP 50g be a good choice?
>>
I have a Casio FX-something. Basically only use it for college tbqfhwymf
>>
>>54191609
If your exams didn't state that calculators of any kind and slide rulers were forbidden then you went to a third rate college. And if you didn't use matlab and/or maple for assignments that required scripting then texas instruments had bribed your third rate college

Wouldn't RPN's stack feature cause more sigfig problems than putting everything into a large, single equation?

It's only $45 on Amazon. You literally can't get a better graphing calculator for that price.

The fx-991/115s do have xor, but not mod.
>>
when using RPN, are you supposed to use the space key for every number and then press the operator key, or do you push it up on the stack?

As you want.
