Is there a female version of the poorfag watch guide? I'm planning to give someone a gift but I'm not sure what to get. I'm beige version of SNK805K2, I'm still not sure if it's feminine enough or would fit a corporate attire.

That's a men's watch. Women's watches are hard to find, other than bottom of the barrel fashion shit.

Honestly I've found that orient tends to have some of the better cheap women's designs, especially if you're looking for mechanical movements. But a lot of it needs to be imported.

In those days, quartz wasn't around yet, and mechanical watches were the only choice.
And Rolexes were pretty much the most accurate and robust watches you could buy.
They were more about function than luxury back then.

>more text than a fucking 2015 Pelagos
>edgy shapes in general
>largeish crownguard
>random pusher (as well as dimple pusher which I find fine)
>lume
>date

It's no where close to being dressy as fuck.
Here's another world timer, do you find it dressy as fuck even if it's arguably dressier comparing to the list above?
>>
>>54118242
That's how it looks to my eyes. The indices are very prominent, lume coated and rough in shape, the GMT inner ring makes it look a bit aggressive along with the prints and logos on the dial and the case+crown guard is in the same rough styling. Definitely more sporty than dressy.
>>
>>54118287
Your example is much more cluttered than the oceanus though.
As for text the city ring isn't normally viable and the function stuff is spread out to the point where it doesn't count.
I really don't understand the [Dressy as fuck] metric and honestly am starting to think that you guys are talking out of your ass.
Is >>54118210 dressy then?

My image was another travel time, not a dress watch. I know very well it's cluttered to hell and that's why I asked if you found it suitable. Why would you need a world / travel time function at a formal event?
If you want to wear the oceanus you posted on a leather strap with a sports coat, it could work I guess.

The rectangular casio you posted would be acceptable wth a suit (on a leather strap), though Casio MTP V007L 1E would be significantly more suited for formal wear.
Here's a modern dress watch I find visually appealing.

worltimeautist poster here, I'd consider that watch just fine with a buttondown, possibly even with the bracelet, but it's really not something to wear with a suit.
Pic related is kind of similar, but not dressy. Guess it'd go by since nowadays some cunts outright wear diving chronographs with a (business) suit - but it's not proper or aesthetical.

Please review it when you get it though, I'm interested.

Dont listen to the fags here, they all jerk off to Rolex and Omega and such. OutGear is a solid example of Casios budget line or poor mans ProTrek. That being said, the SGW -100 is a nice watch with a fairly accurate compass and thermometer, but the WR is just 10 bar and the battery only rated for 2 years as opposed to the SGW-100 which is 20bar WR and has a 3y battery. If you want functionality and not looks, buy sgw 500, but if you desire looks and functionality, go for the cheaper sgw100.

Fire is a biggie since plastic military watches might melt. Not sure about fiber-composite cases like on Marathons. Pic related, a Marathon Navigator, according to the manufacturer it has a "fibreshell" case, which I assume means fiberglass-resin.

Or maybe there's the Amphibia that's a massive steel diver, but then again the hairspring and the acrylic crystal might not be able to withstand the heat. How close do you get to fire? Are you a fireman?
>>
>>54119917
I would think a steel cased seiko 5 would do you good
heat will be an issue with any watch though
an fw91 could also be an option

fw91 is probably the best option because when you do end up overheating your watch atleast it was only a 10$ one
>>
>>54119881
some people would prefer a watch thats their own rather than the same factory model as everyone else
>>
>>54119984
The watch would be covered by gear. If my watch is melting I'm having much bigger problems than that.

The biggest thing is taking medical calls in account.
Must be non absorbent and able to be washed and scrubbed with disinfectant.
Able to take a beating
Able to read in low light without pressing buttons on the watch
Bonus points for slimness.

I'm not hating on gshocks, just don't know if they have slimmer models.

>Buy cheap soviet watch because it's cheap
That's not the reason why people get Amphibias, they are pretty unique divers that are built like tanks and have almost indestructible automatic movements. It's really low quality/price ratio is just another pro.
Btw that Amphibia is Russian, not Soviet. Don't think there would be anyone interested in modding a vintage one.

>Mod the fuck out of it
nigga, it's just a custom bezel and a nato

>paying %50+ of it's original price
That's one of the most enjoyable aspects of Amphibias, why not spend domr more money to make a watch that is much more worth its own price to make it look better?
Modding Amphibias is also a way of getting started into real watchmaking by experimenting. You can get some cheap chink tools, open it, adjust it, change the dial, hands, relume... it's something you wouldn't even want to try yourself with an expensive watch.
Amphibias are great, someone who talks shit about them hasn't just bought one himself.

Grand Seiko Snowflake would be one of the grails, but the thought of 1k $ service is a little frightening, so probably some high beat GS, Rolex Milgauss, Submariner or Explorer
Don't think anything higher than those, I'm pretty sure I would avoid wearing VC or PP just because they're worth so much, just really a different league

Considering it, but just recently got my Marshall, enjoying it in all, but the inner rotating bezel is shitty as all god. If it would just rotate by the minute as opposed to a rolling motion (I'm sure someone will get what I mean) then it would be amazing, but as is, if you're working with your hands, you're like to eventually run the bezel half way around the dial from just the occasional brush of the crown. I really do wish it was a heavy click between minutes.

Who says there was $1000 service costs on the Grandu Seiko nippu nongu snowfrake forded 1000 times rike Katana? From my understanding, the service costs are in line with what you would pay to ship an Omega or a Rolex back to HQ.

Even if it was a grand, the fact that the watch costs about $3k less than the equivalent Rolex would mean that it would take a while before the service costs outstripped the savings.

So /wt/ help me out here.

I've got my change jar quite quickly accumulating a reasonable sum. There's currently £97.something in there. My question is then, do I grab myself an Orient Ray, which I could no doubt do within the week, or, I can keep saving a little longer, and get myself an SARX015, both watches I really like the look of.

But ofcourse, we're talking 2 very different pricepoints here.

I have a Mako and a SARX013, the mako is a nice watch that hits above its price range but the SARX is so much nicer. However the problem with it is I don't really think it's worth the $100 premium over a SARB and for only $25 more my (used) Citizen Grand Classic blows it out of the fucking water. My recommendation here very much depends on the price you can get the Ray for, if it's nearer to $100 definitely get it but if it's more like $200 you should save up more.
>>
>>54123406
Pricing of the Ray varies quite wildly, pic related.

I can get the SARX015 from a local jeweller for £330.

My biggest attraction to the SARX015 is that textured dial, it just tickles my pickles, if you know what I mean.

If that's rust on the winding stem, the entire interior of the watch is probably corroded into a solid mass.

That is one of the most thoroughly destroyed watch dials I've ever seen.

>>54124385
It's not rust, just dirty

Sucker still runs tho.

>>
>>54124461
Watchmakers aren't miracle workers anon. That dial might be able to be cleaned up slightly, but it'll still be fucked regardless.
>>
>>54124482
If everything else checks out ill just buy a new dial
>>
>>54123368
Is the whole thing quartz, or just the digital part?
>>
>>54124461
That blue-green shit around half the dial's perimeter is absolutely rust, and the stain in the center is water. If there's that much moisture damage to the dial it's because the inside of the watch got a bunch of moisture in it and the movement is going to be equally fucked. Why even bother trying to buy a new dial from some other watch? If you find another watch with a better looking dial you may as well just buy that one and toss the one you have rather than making some awful frankenstein thing.
>>
>>54124576
We're trying to say dials don't get fucked up like that without serious damage to the movement generally speaking. See that big water spot in the middle? That kind of implies water was inside the watch which bodes extremely poorly for the state of the movement.
>>
>>54124651
It's a fully quartz movement iirc.

>>54124674

Well....shit... I really thought I got a deal because they're $1000 or so on ebay and everywhere else.

If the movement isn't totally fucked(which it might be) is it worth just getting fixed? There's a lot of shops that just sell parts(face, stem, etc.)

>>54131565
For Japanese watches, look at the case, it should say "Made in Japan" somewhere on the back. The Seiko SARB series does this. Usually, if something says "JAPAN MOVT" on the dial but nothing anywhere else, there is a good chance the case is made in some third world country.

The Orient Ray is very sneaky for this. It says "JAPAN MOVT" on the dial, and the rest of the case is blank, leading you to believe the whole thing is Japanese. But if you open the caseback, it says "MADE IN CHINA" on the back.

Not sure about Swiss watches, because the rules basically say that if more than 50% of the movement is made in Switzerland, the whole thing can be called "Swiss Made".

This, but also for Casio (especially the analogs) the movement will be Japanese-made, but not made by Casio themselves. I've seen SII, Seiko-Epson, Miyota and such in Casios.

I hate that all of these smartwatches have flush straps. I'd actually consider one like this if it had normal lugs.

Wait, are the numbers printed on the glass instead of the dial?
>>
>>54133029
From what I understood of Lawyersan explanation is that the dial is made in such way that the numbers painted on the dial reflect on the bottom of the same dial giving a 3D look. There ain't no painting on the glass.

No serious diver dives with a diver.

So basically, even when you're lead to think otherwise, Seiko is everywhere and in everything.

Yes, maybe not in Citizen, but their low-end automatics are very similar.

It's mostly that Casio produces so many watches, they run out of movements sometimes. Most Casios still sport Casio movements, and Casio is still the largest maker of movements by a huge margin.
>>
>>54132491
>the rules basically say that if more than 50% of the movement is made in Switzerland, the whole thing can be called "Swiss Made".
Actually they're even sneakier than that, only 50% of the VALUE of parts must be from Swiss made components so only a few specific parts might be made there.

Can we go deeper?

I've met professional and semi-professional divers who primarily use dive computers, but also wear a cheap dive watch (usually a quartz Citizen or Seiko, but one guy has an SKX) as backup in case the primary computer fails. I've never met anyone who dives with a Submariner, Seamaster or Amphibia, though.
