tfw just switched from proprietary nvidia-drivers to nouveau + latest mesa from git.
Pretty much everything works the same or better. I have nice looking full resolution ttys, none of the weird nvidia drivers bugs and bullshit, compatibility with wayland and everything else with the native graphical stack, easier to update (e.g. no having to rebuild and install the nvidia drivers after every kernel upgrade), no more issues with applications changing the resolution, and 3D games actually feel smoother.
I get about 150 less fps in CSGO, however it feels smoother, with the nvidia-drivers I was actually having some kind of micro-stuttering all the time, same thing with melee in Dolphin.
I need to use compton for silky smooth rendering or else I get tearing, and I have to enable reclocking or else the card is almost useless though, which is done by configuring a value in /sys/kernel/debug/dri/1/pstate
Nouveau is not bad at all if you configure things right. In some cases it can actually beat the proprietary nvidia drivers in OpenGL performance, which I never thought would happen.

I currently have dual 1440p 60 Hz screens.
I want another 144Hz screen for vidya, and my gpu can support it, but the question is
Would it look weird to have a main 1080p screen in the middle and two 1440p screens on the side? That is, for regular desktop use.
The 1080p and 1440p screens are the same size, which means the windows on the 1080p screen would look much larger and moving them across screens would look weird.

It updates everything on the system. If you do it every few days, it doesn't cause a problem, because you're always up to date. If you don't do it for months, suddenly you're taking on a bunch of updates at once, and things end up breaking. It's like cleaning your room, if you keep it clean all the time, there's no issue, but if you put it off for months, when it finally comes time to clean it, its a lot to deal with.
