Today my computer is getting stuck at the "Starting Windows" part. I left it there all morning and it didn't get past it.
I tried using system restore, startup repair, chkdsk, memory check, etc. But it didn't fix it.
I tried to start in safe mode but it gets stuck after loading driver amdkmpfd.sys.
Google wasn't much help and microsofts page says to go and modify the registry but I feel like I'm gonna fuck up.
What do?

Whenever I press CTRL+SHIFT+S to save a file in Illustrator or Photoshop or whatever, I get a stupid fucking red screenshot taking thing instead.
I don't know how to disable it. It's not under the snipping tool settings, I can't find any solutions by searching for 'CTRL+SHIFT+S screenshot' wtf is this horseshit??
Alright so i got that rainmeter thing set up now, i used this one to replace the all cpu meter (it's basically a fork of it if you will);

It's pretty neat so far but the only gripes i'm having is that i can't find the settings to change the length of this window (i already removed the page file and some other info i didn't want from the .ini but the size is still the same as before) and there also doesn't seem to be any way to change the update interval for the measurement info being shown. I also want to move the clock speed info to the top as it was before with the gadget.
Right now it updates the values every second but i want it to only update every 3 secs or so. Can someone lend me a hand here because i really can't code to save my life
Oh and it would also be nice if there was a way to recolor the entire scheme of this skin so that i can use the saved hex values from the old all meter gadget which i saved and give it the exact same look as before, but that's not a top priority for me right now 2bh

Sounds fucked. Reinstall. You can use a live Linux or even the Windows install disc to copy files you want to keep out to another disk or USB stick. To get a file explorer from a Windows install disc, shift+F10 when you get to the first screen. It'll open a command prompt. From there run explorer to open a file manager.
BTW, if you don't have anywhere to back up files to and want to keep them anyway, use the above tricks to copy the files to some new dir you create in C:\, then delete *everything* else on the disk, including C:\Windows and the various system files in C:\. Then proceed to do a normal install, but instead of deleting existing partitions, click the big C: one and tell it to install into it. Not quite as clean as a full reformat, but close.

Pretty much this. You are the one person who knows the company's systems inside and out. When shit goes wrong, you know how to fix it.
>but if you're good at your job your hard work will go unnoticed because everything will work smoothly.
Yes, and eventually they lay you off and hire a cheap guy to do the job because "nothing ever seems to go wrong and you're just sitting around most of the time". Then they come crawling back to you after about a week when their email is all messed up, none of the printers work, and the server is spewing random errors. This is your chance -- you will fix it, but only if they bring you back on with higher pay.
Or, you periodically remind them of your importance. If nothing has gone wrong for a good while, quietly cause a small disaster and be the hero by quickly putting everything right again.

I doubt he would give a shit enough to recover your data after youve written Ubuntu over it. It should be clean enough, if you do a regular install it will delete everything on it and make it a blank slate of Ubuntu
>>54042467
DBAN.
Multiple wipes are needed.
>>54042467
>>54042489
If using DBAN, make sure you set it to just 1 random pass and 1 zero pass. Maybe skip the random pass and just one zero pass. After simply zeroing a drive, you need at the very least, expensive equipment that can control the drive and capture the analog signal from the drive head, and you have to know non-public details about this particular HDD model's on-disk layout and encoding.
Anything more than 1-2 passes is silly unless you've got something on there that the CIA desperately wants.
HDDerase is faster and potentially more secure than DBAN. It's faster because it simply tells the drive to erase itself rather than generating and streaming the data to write to it. It's potentially more secure because if you have any remapped sectors, internal secure erase will wipe them while anything accessing the drive normally through its firmware can't touch them.

Download it there. Or, a good bootdisk with it and a decent selection of SATA drivers, is included on the UBCD.

People had devices to connect them to PCs. These were either available for purchase from Hong Kong, occasionally in stores as "have all your games in one cartridge" devices or for savegame backup, but could be used with custom software to dump ROMs to a PC. And occasionally people made their own, generally a PIC microcontroller or similar talking to the cartridge or ROM chip desoldered from it, and talking to the PC over parallel or serial.

On high settings the 750 ti was around 5 fps faster, I gave it to my sister and my 5870 is collecting dust. 5770 crossfire outperformed it.
Currently my 5870 is giving me 55-65fps on low in gta 5 and 5770 crossfire is giving me 65-75fps when I last swapped it out to compare.
With 5870 crossfire I should be able to turn some settings up and maintain 60fps.

To software-only solutions, and really anything talking to it over ATA, the hard disk is a simple, linear block device. Store something at a location and it will stay there, and the previous contents there are lost. Even if the drive has reallocated the sector or otherwise decides to keep the old value around inside like a wear-leveling SSD might, you can't access it without interfacing with the storage inside the drive more directly. And mere software can't do that, because the drive's own firmware only presents to it a block of sectors.
Maybe what you've read is that files can be recovered using free software after a mere *format*. Format leaves the previous data in place on most sectors. It merely overwrites the directory that says where it all is with one that says there isn't anything and all space is open.
A proper wipe (or "full" format in Win7 and newer) will overwrite all the sectors.

Go for a Sabertooth if you want a high end AM3+ board. Also I suggest going for an FX 8370. It's newer than the 9590's (which are "top" of the line, it's just an 8350 that could handle high voltages and OC-ed). The 8370 is made from better silicon and can go up to 4.6-4.8GHZ frequently
>>54043460
That restriction is not listed anywhere on that boards information
>>54043460
Those wattages are off 100%. There's no way the M5A99x can't handle (and even get a good OC) a 8350.
The AMD autodetector installer gets stuck at Analyzing System, is there a place I can get the drivers for my R9 270 and install them through Windows instead?

>>54043501
Yes, where the website offers to auto detect, don't. There's a selector under it where you can select device type, family and exact model, and download the driver directly.
You can often also get drivers through Windows Update, but I wouldn't for a GPU since it won't give you the latest or include the full config utility.
You also have a choice here between classic CCC or Crimson.

8Pin power cables can give a little more 200W, and most motherboards can use 300W without problems.

>>54043553
I already have a seedbox set up for that, but I can never seem to seed more than 3 MB/s, presumably because of the shit HDD the seedbox runs on.

>>54043589
>I can never seem to seed more than 3 MB/s
What's the rated upload speed on your connection? Residential connections very often give more down than up.
>37.5 MB/s bandwidth
Is this megabytes or megabits? 37.5 mbyte/s would be 300 mbit/s, indeed an amazing connection.
>>54043626

No clue on what to do about the USB connection. Factory reset seems drastic after one day but heck, not sure what it wants.
>>54043658
I use MB/s. Megabytes per second.
My upload speed is about 20MB/s.
I was overclocking my computer but I smelled smoke so I quickly pulled the cord out the back. Will it be ok if I let it cool down and then turn the clock back down to normal?

The reason ISPs use bit/s to advertise their speeds is because the average joe things that Mb/s and MB/s are the same, so they think they're getting 8 times more than what they really are.
>>54043904
I wonder what sequential I/O speeds on tape are like now.

FUCK
Post speedtest or fuck off
>>54043904
I dunno, these days with the limits you run into in transferring the data to/from your storage medium I think the gap between very fast internet connections and physically moving the data is closing fast. For example Wikipedia uses this example:
>Similarly, as of 2016 the highest capacity backup tape format available is LTO-7, with a capacity of 6 TB. If a tape of this capacity were sent by overnight mail and were to arrive around 20 hours after it was sent, the effective data rate would be 664 Mbit/s. With networking technology, this magnitude of speed over this distance would be very difficult to attain without a costly dedicated connection as one would likely need to use several hops and have a connection that is not oversubscribed.
But they completely ignore the amount of time it takes to get the data onto those tapes in the first place. Once you start to factor that in you probably could have just sent it faster over the network, assuming suitably high speeds. Similarly it may have to be copied back off the tapes on the other end, adding even more time to the process.
It only really seems practically to me to physically move the data medium as a time-saving measure when the data is already sitting on some portable form of storage that is ready for transport.

Stick PC plugs into the HDMI input port on this. Yellow/red/white RCA A/V cables plug from the box to the TV.

Web pages can specify fonts to render things in. Apparently the closest font to what Youtube uses for video titles doesn't include Japanese characters, so you see boxes.
The fonts Youtube specifies for the title are:
Roboto, arial, sans-serif
I'm guessing you don't have Roboto or Arial installed, so it grabs the first sans-serif font it sees. You might try installing Roboto or the MS font pack.

That is the driver kit solved; is it really the best driver kit available, though?
What about amassing the rest of the kit? The stupid tweezers and other stuff--how do I ensure top-notch quality in stuff like "lol plastic spudger?"

Settings, search "turn system icons on or off" or similar. It'll lead you to a page where you can turn off all the various system icons.
iirc you can also just drag them out of the tray directly???
That will hide its icon, but it will probably still run. You can then either simply go into it and turn off all the things it monitors, or see if there's a service you can change to disabled in services.msc.

I rather like my Apple Aluminum desktop keyboard. I don't know that I've seen a keyboard that's exactly the same feel, but I guess I'd suggest going to an office supply store where they have a bunch of keyboards out so you can feel them. Choose by how they feel to type on. Also look at the layout -- if they did something obnoxious like put a sleep key right next to the arrows, that might prove to be a problem.

1. Disable hibernate. Reboot. If hiberfile still exists, delete it.
2. Go to advanced system properties and change that goddam pagefile to something less than 32 GB. Actually just disable the pagefile if you don't actually have a use for 32 GB, because you'll NEVER run low and need a pagefile.
How can i set flags on regex to use with 4chanx filtering? I keep doing this because i can't set the flag to ignore case:(t|T)(b|B)(h|H)

It does not get worn out from use. It gets snagged on shit and snaps off. Either be more careful, stick something over the end when not in use, or buy cables that have the little rubber protector. Or buy a small reel of CAT5e, a pack of ethernet cable ends, and a basic ethernet crimping tool. It'll be a bigger investment than a single cable going in, but you will never need to buy another overpriced prepackaged ethernet cable again, plus you can have any length you please.

I'm in line for a phone upgrade, I want one of the new flagships.
>Current Phone: Galaxy S4
>Carrier: AT&T
I hate the amount of bloatware that comes on my phone currently. I'm against going Samsung because of this, along with some other reasons. I don't care about the launcher since I use Nova Prime anyway. I'm liking the HTC 10, but the only way I can get it is through HTC.
>>54046488
1) Bloatware goes away with custom ROMs. Buy an unlocked flagship that suits your usecase.
2) Xiaomi, Motorola, HTC. Those are da bess.

I've got a bunch of fucking audio files recovered from an old drive, all saved across various folders with unrecognizable filenames. Same goes for the audio files.
The files seem to have metadata intact. Is there a good way to search the files by metadata or something so I can organize them? We're talking thousands of files here.

int UserNumber= 0;

std::cout << "The computer will guess your Number!" << std::endl;
std::cout << "Input a number in the range of 1-100 for the computer." << std::endl;
std::cin >> UserNumber;
ComputerNumber = cast();
do

if (UserNumber > ComputerNumber)
{

std::cout << "The Max Value was " << Max << std::endl;
std::cout << "The Min Value was " << Min << std::endl;

Sample output.
Input a number in the range of 1-100 for the computer.

The Computer Guessed. 81 It was too High.
The Max Value was 81
The Min Value was 1
The Computer Guessed. 44 It was too High.
The Max Value was 44
The Min Value was 1
The Computer Guessed. 23 It was too low.
The Max Value was 44
The Min Value was 23
The Computer Guessed. 56 It was too High.
The Max Value was 56
The Min Value was 23
For some reason rand() is giving back numbers higher than the Max.
Help?
I have trouble reading a market. I need a new processor in a week. Does it look best to get a devil's canyon or skylake i7 or an i5 or AMD processor right now. AMD or i5 being sold and replaced with an end-of-the-year release

Or upgrade to LTSB
Or take the nuclear option: break Windows Update and install the patches you want through manual hotfix installers
>>54046740
idk, does it? Watch in Resource Monitor (Windows), Activity Monitor (OSX) or iotop (Linux).

Turn off uBO on the page, see if that helps. If so, open its log window, reload the page and see what all is being blocked.
If it's still blocked, open uMatrix and see what's blocked there.

You need to do likerand() % (Max - Min + 1) + Min.
To understand it, take an example. Min is 5, Max is 10. You want numbers between 3 and 10. There are 8 possible numbers you want it to spit out: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Therefore, you need rand()%8 since that constricts your range to that many possibilities. However, now it's generating 0...7. Add 3 and you have 3...10.
8 is 10-3+1. In the general case you don't add 1, but your max is inclusive -- you want it to generate 100 sometimes, I assume.
3 is the min value.
Also, dosrand(time(NULL));near the start of your program if you use rand() and don't want the same "random" number every time. That seeds the RNG with the current time. You'll need to#include <time.h>if you haven't already, to get time().

>Min is 5, Max is 10. You want numbers between 3 and 10
I meant "Min is 3, Max is 10" but fucked it up.
Windows 10's latest culumative update wouldn't install so I hid it using their hide update program. It tried to install anyway when I shut down and booted, but got stuck again on the blue screen with spinning dots. I pushed restart and now all I'm getting is a black screen with a flashing white underscore. It's pretty much a lost cause now right? Nothing I can possibly do besides install a fresh os?
>>54046917
Thank you I finally see what was going on.
I had
rand % 10
which gives 0-9
but then I was adding like 6 to get the range.
6-15
thank you.
what linux distros i can install using the exe file?
>>54047435
After 2 failed boots it should take you to a boot menu. From there, find system restore and do it. If you don't get a menu after multiple failed boots, use the install media, click next, then repair your computer.
>>54047487
Anything with Wubi. I know Ubuntu and Debian have it. However it doesn't work with Win8 or 10 on UEFI systems. Why not pick up a cheap USB stick at the drugstore and make a normal installer? It'll work at least as well, and give you a way out if you need to go back since Windows cannot be installed using a Linux binary.
>>54047540
Thank you for the reply. I'm not getting the boot menu, I believe the os is messed up. Would using a Windows 10 usb enable me to repair if I originally upgraded from 7?
