The worst is when normies call them simply 'usb'.

I read about that one time on /g/, that people at some anon's university call them USBs. Then I started paying attention to it, millenials came in and asked for USBs. I think I previously just pointed them towards the USB sticks but now I get pretty annoyed and out of spite ask "USB what?". And the sad part is they get flummoxed, it takes a little time for them to say "USB sticks", but some go beyond that. They start getting confused, "A-a... memory you put in the computer..."

What, you mean like RAM or an external drive? (I already know they just want a USB stick)

This is so much fun because I can totally get away with it and these morons feel dumb for not knowing it's a usb flash drive. These people don't even know what a USB is. I just find it hard to live in a world where people are so ignorant of this. The USB port is even more standard than power sockets, yet everyone is expected to know what a power socket is and what it looks like. But because USB ports are used by computers, it's okay to not know anything about them.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Stop being a faggot. If they say USB, you fucking know what they mean. Don't go all autistic and say 'dur you meant USB flash drive'. They clearly mean USB flash drive from the context of what they say. As a service provider, you should at least do your job and not be a dick about it unless they give you a reason. I do the same thing. When someone asks if they can bring their 'modem' in or bring in their 'hard drive' over the phone, (I know they mean their tower) I'm like "No, you don't have to bring your modem in. We just need the tower unit". Or some such thing. Sometimes it takes them a good 5 minutes of being flustered to figure out how to properly tell me what they need.

I was like this for years. I'd literally go more than a month without saying one word to another human being.

Just go outside, it's not hard. Thinking about going outside is harder. You know the normies who you think won't relate? A lot of them will relate. Or they don't care.
You get into an us vs them shit with normies and it's not healthy. There are so many different kinds of people that fall in the normy range, some are jerks, some are really friendly.

Apply for basic shitty jobs, get some money in the bank. Go to school even if you're in your mid 20s and you think it's too late.
Just act. I did, and my life is great now. And I enjoy video games now more than I ever did.

Yeah I actually do that too. Last week some guy was looking for an ASUS network adapter for his computer, I think he was running ubuntu or mint or some other noob distro like that. He was so smug when asking about the compatibility, when I said it supports whatever windows/mac he might have, and he said what about linux support? It went something like this

>Okay what operating systems does it support
<Pretty much any windows or mac
>What about linux? I use (whatever it was), does it work with that (while giving me this look as if he knows better - why the fuck are you asking then? it says it on the box asshole)
<Oh you mean GNU/Linux? yadda yadda corelibs and so forth
>Y-
<It should work with (whatever it said on the box) kernel and upwards. I personally use this on my computer running Arch (I think I told him I don't even have a DE)

I awarded myself with a beer after work for my successful interjection.

Normally I go around the shop looking for people buying nvidia and telling them to buy radeon instead. They dropped the price of the GTX970 and bundled it with a kingston SSD for a good price so my job has gotten remarkably harder. Usually roughly 50% of potential novidya customers dropped their 970 when I told them about the vram issue and the fact that once the pascal cards are release novidya will cut driver support for the current cards. Meanwhile AMD is still releasing updates for ancient shit like the 7870 and improving performance.

That novidya driver update that crashed computers was a fucking goldmine for me. Usually people are wary of AMD because of MUH DRIVERS, all the pajeets have successfully shilled the internet that AMD drivers are bad while in reality they have been nothing but stable for the past like 3 years while novidya blackouts have happened multiple times.

Oh and wood screws.

I have to admit, having lived in a number of countries and used a couple of different sockets the South African/Indian design is the most durable, sensible and my all round favorite. The only drawback is finding plugs that can be opened(they are usually sealed) for that the UK plug wins. The US style plug is objectively the worst followed closely by CEE7/16 .

>>54026477

What's wrong with the US plug? I've always liked it, it's simple and cheap, the design makes it easy to engineer folding plugs, it's compact and convenient when coiling cables, and it doesn't lay with the prongs straight up and stab your feet when you leave it unplugged. It also allows for compact power strips and is easy to adapt to other countries' plugs. I think the advantages outweigh the only disadvantage I can think of, which is the ability to bend prongs if you're a clumsy idiot.

I hate this implication that gamers and the like aren't tech literate, and only programmers and linux evangelists are "tech literate."

I'm an automotive technician (an actual TECHNICIAN, by the way, not some grease monkey mechanic), and I don't go around making fun of my clients for not knowing how to tweak every single component of their own cars.

US plug:

>no earth
>impossible or impractical to fuse live wire
>cheap, flimsy design
>little surface area on pins holding it into wall so pulls out easily
>2 prongs provide little stability when plugged into wall so rocks around
>Almost impossible to protect first cm of pins from prying fingers

I bet you think depressed people just need to cheer up and then they're fixed.

Don't assume that I'm not trying, that these people aren't trying, that somehow I'm just doing all the things I can to preclude myself from doing anything. I think if you read back what you previously wrote, you'll realize that your advice is incredibly condescending all for a platitude of "just do it." US plugs have a three-prong earth version and almost every socket installed since the 50s accepts them. Pretty much everything that actually needs a ground has a cable with one.

We also have fused plugs, as shown here.

I've also found them to be very durable aside from occasional bent pins. We use a 220v socket and plug, similar to Euro ones, for heavy equipment and appliances, and I've found them to be much less reliable than the normal 110v ones.

Surface area can be an issue with 2-prong plugs, but the 3-prong grounded plugs hold very well.

I guess you've got a point with there being an issue with unprotected pins.

Replacing the plug on 110v cables is largely a non-issue since I've never seen one fail (probably because they're so simple and everything is solidly molded into the plug), even in a heavy use industrial environment, and most things use replaceable cables anyway. As I mentioned, I HAVE seen plugs fail pretty regularly on 220v cables, but those are pretty much identical to European plugs and can be easily replaced.

I thought Japan was 100v, not 90v?

Anyway, it's pretty convenient doing US <-> Japan travel because of the plugs. Pretty much anything with a power brick can run fine on either, so you don't have to worry about adapters or anything. It's an issue with direct AC stuff like some kitchen appliances, but nobody's gonna bring them on vacation. (I've heard that CRTs had issues too, because of different hz, but I don't think that matters with LCDs.)

Exactly, gamers are like /g/ clients. The problem is however that /v/ doesn't pay /g/ to fix their shit, but instead they flood the board with stupid questions and thoughts.

Say a gamer walks into your workplace, not as client, but as automotive technician, but he isn't, and he starts telling you to go outside and not keep gaming for your entire life.

What wrong with that analogy? Oh yes, working as an automotive engineer doesn't imply gaming all day, in the same way that /g/ is not /v/.

Soviet plugs did not have a ground pin, and had thin pins rated for 6 or 10A. That was enough for all appliances available to the proletariat.

Post-Soviet era, they've been completely displaced by CEE 7/7 - although non-grounded CEE 7/7 type sockets are also available for houses with old style wiring, which is what's shown in that picture.

I've had depression my whole life, multiple suicide attempts etc. I still take medication. Depression is hard, but it doesn't sentence you to life in front of a computer.

I'm not saying you can cure depression, but if you try every single day to get out of your comfort zone, you'll find yourself with friends and a support structure and that really really helps. Just start with talking your family more.

If you hate your life, you fucking know what you have to do. That's why you hate the "just do it" idea. It's because there's no other solution.
