why not?

/g ? No, they don't use antivirus.

Me? Avira because pirated gaymen, also it has less cpu usage than avast and detects more things

yes. not for much longer though. They have slowly become shit in the past year or so.

If I had no money to spend in an AV solution like Norton I would use Avast, if I didn't feel like pirating NOD32 or Kaspersky. It was the best free AV in the past and probably still is.
>>
>>53995469
You know whats funny? I got that jewegg special on a 3-device year long subscription to Kasperksy's top internet/av suite for $1.99, and its normally like $75 or some shit, and I'm still using avast free lel.

That's true of anything, you mongoloid.

Prove an NSA analyst isn't monitoring any number of devices you use daily.

I don't install shitty shit, I don't go to websites I don't trust, I don't open or run attachments from email, I mean - If I am infected with some crap - then my only crime was using a computer to begin with.

I work on infected bullshit computers from time to time, I see the shit that gets installed and mysterious processes running in the background. I don't have those problems on my machines and If I do, if some hacker has gotten the better of me, then hell - well played.
>>
>>53995667
You cannot download and install security. I won't explain any further, it's boring
>>
>>53995798
You know nothing jon snow. Modern day malware is all rootkit based and is meant to not be detected by your av. Also the days of "flashy" viruses and malware are gone. The new breed has long been to steal your information not to cause your machine to stop working correctly. That's the whole point. The only exception to that rule is cryptoware, which is just an eaiser method of extorting money.
>>

Yes you can you mongolid. There are plenty of scripts out there that will apply configuration changes to your machine that do just that. Holy fuck go get educated or something.

As far as malwarebytes, its shit. It isn't meant to be used for realtime intrustion prevention, just some meme cleaner upper of shitty babby malware.

Protip: Turn off the on-access-scanner in avast. It will slow your non-ssd drives to a crawl. If you do have SSD though, it's no problem
>>
Im actually using it on Windows 7.

Should I change AV? I heard that AVG got better than Avast lately, but I dont know for sure.

And no, Im not going to leave my OS without AV, I learned already that Windows without one gets infected way too frequently and I need active protection, not just scans from MalwareBytes from time to time.
>>
>>54000808
what your doing for getting infected?
>>
>>54000960

What I do everyday - browsing internet, doing work stuff, searching for articles and such.

I ran into situation, where normally safe site was infected and before admins reacted, damage was done. At other day, google ads carried infection. Oh and I cant simply block all scripts from sites.

At this day and age of crypters, AVs are essentially useless. Common sense 2016 will protect you as well as an AV would.

Firewalls are a good thing, though.

everything that requires rw operations = not responding (ctrl + s, load sites, refresh folders)

any antivirus recommendations for windows pc? is malwarebytes good?
(bunch of pendrives are used on it)

>>
>>54002366
Are you implying that AVs can defend against fresh driveby exploits?
All it takes is to obfuscate the exploit code (easy) and the payload (easy, if you use a crypter or buy a crypter service). And that is exactly what malware authors are doing, because they want to minimize the detection rate and increase the lifespan of their exploit.

Using noscript and a whitelist is a better idea.

>literally any website you visit could host an exploit

Checksum authentication, fuckwit. Common sense dictates you use GNU/Linux, so we have package signing. Stay cucked forever. Your nortonzzz ain't gonna patch the bitcoin miner embedded to your shitty torrent client

Avast free is very good if you don't install all the bloatware that comes with it.

What I really like about this program is that it has a HIPS and "hardened mode." If there is any undiscovered exploit, the payload will not run. This is virtual "100%" malware prevention when used by a knowledgeable user.

The bloat is still there in the program file folder, though, taking about 1.2 GB of data.
>>
>>54002977
Avira free is the superior option, why would you pick avast over it other than liking it?
Considering they score the same in detection but avira has more in package.

Simple, you're either paid shill or you let emotions cloud your judgement
>>
>>54003067
Avira free is good too, but it doesn't have a HIPS.
BY DEFAULT, "hardened mode" is turned off and HIPS sensitivity is lowered - hence lower test scores. With a knowledgeable user, this can be turned on.
>>
>>54003247
Wtf is hips?
>>
>>54003283
It's a rule based anti malware, based on behavior, with a built in whitelist.
>>
>>54003283
For example, if you downloaded an exe, that is unsigned, that is attempting root access to access your windows folder, the HIPS can either block it or ask the user.
