Basing from personal experience and many opinions from around my audiophile community. Almost all of them agree that K3003 feels overpriced and IE800 fairs better with good isolation. Where as T8ie has seen limited usage around me but most of the user agrees that although the build quality is wonky, the sound it produced is pleasant to the ears.

the IE80 measures better than the fucking IE800 so if anything isn't worth its price its that veiled pos. The fact that the IE80 doesnt have the typical sennheiser veil and the IE800 does just proves that the IE800 belongs in the fucking trash with all the other no treble shit sennheiser makes
>>
I'm torn between the Superlux HD681 and HD681 Evo. Gonna use them mostly for games.
Which should I get?
HD681 is €20 but comes without velour pads, whereas the Evo is €30 but has velour pads included. On top of that the Evo looks quite a lot better.
>>

>>
>>53842516
>IE 80 and IE 800
Both shit.

> The fact that the IE80 doesnt have the typical sennheiser veil
The veil is only typical for their IEMs which are veiled as all hell. Midbass boost to the moon and upper mids are basically notched out. Terrible in-ears, response is like IM70 except worse in every aspect.

>with all the other no treble shit sennheiser makes
Such as? Actually don't answer. Hilarious that someone actually fell for the veilheiser meme.

>K240 is 3x as expensive
He's the resident AKG shill who recommends either K240, K553 or K702 to everyone.

>Why is the Evo awful exactly?
It has awful build quality but more importantly it sounds like ass. It's extremely bassy headphone with a harsh treble and mids are missing. HD681 on the other hand is very, very good for the price. It's not comfortable or build well but for 20 bucks you can't really expect much. K240 pads fit it.

Looked around a bit more (mostly head-fi) and ultimately went with the HD681 Evo.
The bass can be reduced and sharpened with a foam mod apparently and everyone says the treble is much softer than the original 681s.
Build quality is irrelevant given the price and the fact I'll only use it on my desktop.
The fact that it seems much more comfortable and comes with velour pads made me pick these.

Then again, if they're not great it's not a big loss anyway.

Yeah, it has me hooked pretty nicely right now, but I was previously a huge fan of Titan Quest + Immortal Throne and it's by the same devs.
I've only cleared the first act right now, but I can already feel by the atmosphere that this is what Diablo 3 should've been, only in a Cthulhu meets Van Helsing flavor.
This game has plenty of both immersion and presence, despite being a top-down hackathon, maybe it's the combination of sound design and visual feedback.

That game that really takes the crown is Ori and the Blind Forest, the soundtrack alone holds its own as a stand-alone album, even if you won't play the game, do listen to the music. the graphics, gameplay and pacing are all top-notch too. It takes eight hours to beat at worst, so not a huge time sink.

The music of both games is very chill, in GD it makes for a compliment with the gameplay by preventing it from getting overbearing with the grimdark, although it's not terribly inspired on its own.
In Ori, the combination of orchestra and ethnic instruments makes for very inspiring music, here's some of my favorite tracks, although most of the OST is solid:

They probably believe that all components in a chain need to be equally expensive, even though it should start expensive at the ears and go down in price from there; the source doesn't matter at all as long as you're using reasonable compression.

So then I research it some and it says to tell it what to use under preferences, which doesn't fix anything as it doesn't seem to work.

What am I fucking up?

Maybe check your sound card settings, see if it's set to 48kHz.

Alternatively, if you can't get your sound card to do 48kHz, set the sample rate in your program to 42kHz.

actually seems kind of legit. If I was into VR I'd definitely be paying attention to those for the headtracking
>>
>>53849936
Well, what do you want to do? You don't need REW to apply EQ. I don't think REW can apply EQ even. You can plot it on measurements and maybe use it for the sine sweep(maybe, haven't tried) but if you want to fix your Micca's response, you should just load that EQ into EQ APO.
>>
>>53850034
I don't know how to do that, and I'm realizing how fucking muffled and terrible the micca sound. Honestly, I'm just really fucking mad about how difficult this is and how poor quality the speakers are. I'm comparing them against my creatives and audio technicas currently and they sound extremely muddy/muffled.
>>
>>53850012
Yeah, but there is no '3D' audio content for it and it just seems like it would be extrapolated. Having 4 shitty drivers in each cup makes it the same as any shitty gaming headset with multiple drivers. This is a rehoused gaming headset for the masses. They seem to retail for around 300 and that will be divided into several components such as the 8 drivers, head tracking sensors, some sort of micro board to control everything, housing, accessories, packaging, and whatever else they decided to add. That's a combination for disaster.

If you just want to apply the equalization for your Miccas, you don't need anything else than EQ APO and the EQ presets provided in that article on noaudiophile. Copy and paste the filter into a text file. Open EQ APO, hit the green "+" -sign, choose "Control" -> "Include" and navigate into this text file you just created. Make sure this file you loaded is enabled and applied to the correct output device. Should look like pic related. Right there I have multiple EQ presets for different devices but I've only enabled the one for Miccas and the output device is shown up top.

How much of an improvement is this? The bananas are EXTREMELY lose in the back, so I just packed it all up to send it back.

I don't mind unpacking it to test it if it's a HUGE improvement, but they sound like absolute ass without it.
>>
>>53850616
True but the only obvious alternative is the e10k and the o2 actually sounds better than the e10k despite what people on here would have you believe. I would have recommended the e10k but this guy wants to spend big, so why not.
>>
>>53850666
Then don't recommend at DT770, those are shit tier. The only good DTs around that price are the 880, both 770 and 990 are dogshit that will destroy your ears if you still have good hearing.
>>
>>53850644
I don't have the Miccas so I don't know and can't test it properly. The EQ is fairly big so I'd say it's definitely a noticeable improvement. I know my EQ setups for loudspeakers were considerable updates once properly done.
>>

>>53850718
I have said this multiple times over the last couple weekends which are when I usually come here, I own both and the o2 actually sounds better. I'm no expert but it seems to show more detail when using my 702', the e10k sounds more dull. Me and my brother did a blindfold test and I could tell which was which after 5 fucking seconds of the same gay song we tested whilst being blind folded, no bias, no bullshit. the o2 sounds SLIGHTLY better, but saying that, all of the audio differences are slight when you get to a certain point.

I didn't buy it for an audio upgrade, I bought it because I needed more volume for my midi keyboard and it turns out that it actually sounds better. I'm happy about that and I have no reason to lie, people on here don't like this information for some reason.

No but I want to buy an dac/amp and I'm very inclined to buy the e10k. They're just 90€ while the odac+o2 is like 300€
>>
>>53850983
Ok well I would honestly say that you should buy the e10k, my o2 sounds slightly better than the e10k even with no amp but the price difference is huge. Pic related is my setup. Like I said i bought the o2 in order to get more volume for my midi keyboard which is slightly quiet with my music program for some reason. I bought the dac afterwards for £40 so overall yes it's a lot more and that's why I recommend the e10k. The e10k is fucking brilliant for what it is but the o2 sounds slightly better, even my normie brother could hear the difference straight away.
>>
>>53851083
> my o2 sounds slightly better than the e10k even with no amp

I meant to say dac, my o2 is an amp only and costs less than half of what the amp+dac costs. I use a £40 sabre dac along side it.

The 702 are a beast to drive, maybe that's why. I'm guessing they sound practically the same on easy to drive headphones like the DT770 32ohm, with the o2 having a very tiny edge
>>
>>53851326
I know why. It's the onboard placebo generator chip. Makes a huge difference, but only if you look closely for it.

Hi. I hope I'm not posting in the wrong thread by asking this, but does anyone know some really good pc speakers I can get which aren't insanely priced ($500~$1000+). I'll use it for listening to music while doing my work, but I can't seem to find a good pair that isn't low quality shit.
>>
>>53851365
That's what i'm thinking, maybe the o2s are fully powering the 702's, the way they should be.

The other day someone on here mentioned that my amp was overkill for my 702's and the e10k+702 do seem to be a popular combination, I can see why since that was my first real audio setup and are fantastic for the money.
>>
>>53851412
Two people doing blind fold tests carefully with no indicator as to which amp they're listening to, or which computer/laptop they're connected to whilst listening to the same song that is new to the both of them and we could both hear the difference after 5-10 seconds.

While this question isnt exactly about headphones, it is about audio electronics.

So I bought a diy pre-amp kit from aliexpress for soldering practice and threw it together, and it works, but there seems to be a bit of a problem.

When I plug it in and run it, once the tubes initialize (about 3-15 seconds of warming) they emit a regular "popping" sound. Similar to what I imagine a capacitor discharging would sound like. But it takes so long for the pops (again, about once every second. [could it be related to the 60hz ac input?]

Here are the posts in /ohm/ on /diy/ I made in order:

Manual work, no way to automate that iirc. Measure and correct with EQ APO and repeat the process as many times as needed. For loudspeakers do it one loudspeaker at the time. Room modes are weird.

VSonic VSD3S or LG Quadbeat 3 tuned by AKGs.

Etys are not to be recommended to people starting out in their audiophile journey. Inexperienced people want bass. For example. Somebody owns a M50X or a Sony MDR1A and love how bassy it is, and then they try a Ety and it sounds not as fun to their ears.

Experienced people that know that they want neutral FR then buy EK5, MK5, HF5 Etys because it's cheap or that other ER4 because they know all about it and it's a niche product for them.

I'll be sarcastic here. Yes. It's a ear rape meme. Do not buy one. You won't like it because you're just starting out.

I'm not even complaining about the sound quality but how deep they go inside the hear. It's just uncomfortable
>>
>>53858770
Elitism like this shitpost is what gives the audio pastime its bad name. Pretty much:
>You don't like what I like because you are inferior/inexperienced.
>>
>>53858365
No benefits, obviously. Cost efficiency in small manufacturing yields maybe and the fact they can advertise it as hand made.
>>
>>53858835

Also,

>using exotic topologies of dubious benefit

It is never the tried-and-tested circuits that sound best, only the obscure ones. They were obscure for a reason: outcompeted by superior topologies that did more for less cost.

How expensive are the phillips fidelio X2 and the Hifiman 400S in your country?

I have the X2 it has a fair amount of upper bass, perhaps too much for your liking.

Sadly I have nothing else to compare them to at the moment, might grab a more neutral headphone at some point in the future with less bass, more concise mids and treble for around the same price.

I wish everyone would just design their headphones with a 3.5mm connector to save me the trouble of having to splice the wires and solder in a connector.

Makes life easier when switching headphones by using the same cable.
>>
>>53858968
X2 is 240€ with shipping
400s is about 360€ with shipping.

I have to import from Amazon, there's nothing in my country. The K612 is 127€ with shipping and the K702 is about 170

My dac/amp is an e10k

Can't get those. They're way, way too expensive. I asked about the 612 and 702 because they're under 200€

>>53852576
In what way are they better? Frequency charts show that the 612 is flatter with more bass around the 70-120hz and less piercing treble

>>53851994
I have an e10k. Is it good enough?

>>53851983
Aren't those semi-open? How's the soundstage?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these charts show that the K702 has more bass than the K612. Is this true? There are no other graphs to compare both
>>
>>53859095
i've only heard the k612, but it has solid, linear bass.

Thing guy says that the K612 feel more anemic compared to the K601 which in turn had less bass than the 702.

But i'm right and I don't care about the 'haters', I only come here on weekends if i'm drinking, like I give a fuck about this place.

I'm simply letting people know that the o2 amp sounds better than the e10k with the 702's.

You're all so intelligent with your graphs, mocking places like head fi and audiophiles but you can't even hear the clear difference between the amps, not (you) but nearly everyone else who gets triggered by me.

E10k measurement isn't even out. They just parroting Nwavguy measurement about E10.
>>
>>53859031
Soundstage on the Fostex, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not huge, but it's not all RIGHT INSIDE YOUR SKULL AND NO FURTHER either.

It needs new pads to be comfortable though, and if you put new pads of your choice on, you're most likely gonna have to do some modding to get it to sound good again.
>>
>>53859268
akg is never shilled enough so i can't tell how much of a meme this is ; but the reviews on it are kinda nice. I'll add it to my things-to-attempt-to-try-at-a-hifishop list
>>
>>53856672
MSR7, kinda clampy tough. But you can always stretch the headband to loose it. Otherwise less clampier option, MDR-1A. But its bassy, you can EQ'd down easily though.

>difference between the amps, not (you)
I'm the same person you replied to. I have O2+ODAC and Shit Stack 2 Ubers. I can clearly hear the difference. They are not the same. Everyone that doesn't own both goes blurghblurghblurghblur "both amps sound saem."

They are like brother and sister. The brother being the O2 being scientifically neutral and the sister which is a brighter Schiit (Or "Shit" if you want to insult it that way) which did had scientific measurements but it's gone now. I can hear it sound different on the flipside. They both compliment each other.

O2+ODAC sounds warmer, Schiit Stack sounds cleaner or some shit. Both have different bass sounds. I'm happy with both and I don't feel like splurging moneys for a new amp anytime yet. Unless I hear the difference.
>>
>>53859883
>O2+ODAC sounds warmer,
then it's by definition shit because it's coloring the signal
>>
>>53859883
Well there you go, i'm guessing that the e10k is slightly worse than both of your amp+dacs and obviously the price reflects that. It must be e10k owners in denial, or maybe they use shit headphones with the e10k that don't really need powering.
>>
>>53859913
Not him but let me tell you that the o2 does not sound warmer than the e10k, it sounds more rich and cleaner if anything.

HD 558 because it has smooth and fairly neutral frequency response, comfortable and doesn't need an amplfiier. You can drive it from various of devices just fine including those you listed.

HD 558 here too.

thanks, I think that HD 558 are a good deal. ¿Do u use foam mod?
>>
>>53860396
I personally don't use those headphones but the foam mod doesn't necessarily even have an effect on the response. It likely doesn't hurt and it's a reversible mod so you might aswell.

Is "burning headphones in" a myth? I just got new cans and they sound a bit worse than expected. do i need to somehow burn them in?
