Mine is Gentoo (faster than other distros cause of optimization and not that hard to setup unlike LFS & etc.) and i3wm (efficient use of desktop space + easy to setup)

I think this joke was too subtle for /g/

Honestly I'm running arch and gnome with wayland. I'd prefer something else over gnome, but it really has the best wayland integration at this point.

Arch... it's nice. Flexible, well-maintained.

PCLinuxOS with LXDE because I'm new to Linux and it just werks.

Can you ever go wrong with Gentoo?
>>
>>53804506
LFS isn't actually hard to setup.. It's just that most people who attempt to do it don't read the book patiently and properly, and end up omitting a single but important step, thus fucking up the entire process.
>>
>>53805877
How long did that take to compile?

I went straight for xfce, just because of....well the compiling.
>>
xubuntu with i3, been using a WM for 6 weeks now and can't see myself going back to a DE, I work in endocrinology and am infinitely more productive with his at home and at work
>>
>>53806620
Agreed.

Well, this is spoken from my own experience of course, I did Arch first, then Gentoo, then LFS...So a lot of the steps for LFS seemed logical to me, and not nearly as daunting.

After you build a couple kernels of your own, then it's a walk in the park.

CRUX because it's the most minimal I can get without it being unusable. Also because it has the advantages of a source distro but doesn't the the added USE FLAG complexity, and because the pkg manager is a 500 line bash script.

It's also the inspiration for Arch, Pkgfiles are similar to PKGBUILDs but a lot more simple, and I can use most PKGBUILDs by only replace a few variable names.
>>
you can add GNU/Windows as a distro now

Windows + Explorer

I kinda wanna try Gentoo with twm though. Gotta have dat *lightweight life*
>>
Void + Sway

Xunbutu + XFCE. So basically normal Xubuntu. IT JUST WERKS, and it's lightweight without looking like dogshit. Also highly customizable.
>>
Fedora + Cinnamon. Everything else is shit
>>
>>53806620
After reading through LFS and installing in a VM it's surprisingly easy. The book makes it very logical but it's still a time sink
>>
>>53805255
never do i %3 && i % 5 but just do i % 15... got rejected from an interview years ago because of that

also, c sucks
>>

plus, you shouldn't do cout inside as it's out of the responsibility of that function to print to screen
>>
Another bullshit pissing contest about nothing.

Linux is linux. There's little difference between different distros. The main differences are with installation and maintenance.
Different window managers or desktops will make a much larger difference to the user than different distros. Hell, even different file managers have a bigger impact to users than different distros.
DE/WMs I've tried in the past couple years: Cinnamon, OpenBox, KDE Plasma, LXDE, xfce
All were acceptable except Cinnamon. Video playback in Cinnamon was jerky. That was a deal breaker.

>Linux is Linux
Yep, and we're talking about how the majority of the software in the operating system is customized, not the kernel.
>>
Arch + openbox is nice
Arch + i3wm is also nice

>>53806664
chromium and webkit takes around 4 hours to compile, everything else is pretty fast if you go with --jobs=3 in emerge args

For now: Ubuntu + heavily tweaked Unity. Very comfy.

I also like Debian with cwm. Cwm is just the perfect window manager.

Arch with cinnamon

You've got to check for % 15 first or else it will only print fizz for 15,30,etc instead of fizzbuzz

Wouldn't that actually make it less minimal than Gentoo then?
