Why is Windows XP the one distro people refuse to move away from and why are XP users moving to Linux insisting on forcing their Windows XP clone desktop environments down everyone's throats? I mean specifically MATE/Cinammon/Lxde/Xfce etc.

No one's forcing you to use a specific DE (or WM). Do what you want, that's the whole point of Linux and GNU.
