New stupid questions thread. The last one is past the bump limit.

Remember to always Bing your queries before posting here.

My question is how to fix explorer.exe. Ever since I updated Windows 10 today it stopped working. I have to kill it in command prompt to use my computer. explorer.exe restarts every 3 seconds and uses like 50% of my i7 when it's running since the update.

(Copied from last thread)

So I've been going to the desktop threads kind of recently and I've been wondering, how do people get those really blocky, old-school fonts? The ones you'd see on older, 90s era computers? I ask because I'm a sucker for those and all the searches I've done for bitmap/rasterized fonts turned out to be unfruitful...Is it because they're running some form of the X Windows system?

Do faster network speeds on wifi router and extenders (e.g. ac1750 mbps) indicate better wifi range and performance?

I know about the antenna strength is the main indicator of range but i just want to be sure.
I am deciding between a AC750 and a AC1200 router
>>
>>53765237
> Do faster network speeds on wifi router and extenders (e.g. ac1750 mbps) indicate better wifi range and performance?
No. And you also need the hardware on client side to benefit from these.

> range
That's power (use United States in settings, and you can use OpenWRT too where you crank up the power) + antenna (power, range).

> performance
Like router performance? That's the router's hardware.
But most of these "ultra gaming" routers have a solid inside.
But you can get a solid router for much cheaper.

Heck a simple 1043NDv3 does the job perfectly.

Posted this in the last /sqt/ an hour or so ago with no result, reposting because this shit is pissing me off.

As a preface to my question I'll give some information, I'm living in Australia on the NBN network, using VDSL.

Every night between 4 and 10 my network shits itself, the router will say it's connected to the internet and all that but no devices can access the internet. Whenever I power cycle the modem it takes like 10 minutes for it to restore internet access and that is a huge pain when I'm trying to play online games.

For just about all other times I either get packet loss or packets that are delayed, which once again gives me the shits when playing online games, seeings as upgrading to the NBN was meant to make my internet better, not worse.

I'll post some of the pingtests I've done so you can see that the delayed packets are very reqular, as are the lost packets.

It's definitely not due to needing ports open on my modem because it happens in all online games and even when I ping google.com (as you can see in the picture attached).

If anyone's had the same issues I'd be real thankful for some help with the problem.
>>
>>53765485
So what's your question?
It's your ISP's equipment/cable/whatever.

It's not really something you can solve.
Once I had the same issue, it was some equipment in some far away switching station. Guy spend like 20-30 hours at my home and we tried to figure it out together what might cause it.

Then after he replaced every cable (that was much better quality than the one he installed after), he gave up and finally stated checking out the ISP's stations.

It was not even the closest one, but the second one... don't ask me what exactly went wrong, he just replaced it, came back, boom, the line was 100% solid, faster, no drops, no ping variation.

What?
Here you don't have to pay them a cent, they just come out, investigate, fix shit. It's the ISP's job to fix it's shit. Why would you pay for that?
It makes no sense...

The ISP I'm with is a big fan of charging you for everything, there's like a $500 fee to replace the copper going to your house.

well but how the fuck would I know what do they have to replace?
here they measure the signal strength first from the ISP's building itself, through the modem or something.

they check if the signal changes, variates, etc.
then the engineer comes out, he checks it again with some tool, from your room, then the house, etc.

and then they pin point the exact location of the problem and replace it.

Just go to ninite.com and pick all the shit you need, don't forget to install the appropriate browser extensions like ublock and https everywhere.

I haven't had any of the "Uprgrade to Win10" notifications on any of the 2 installs I've had since the release of Win10, I'm on 8.1 so I don't know what'd be different for Win7.

>>53766163
Try using a different file player, if you can skip to parts within those increments then it's MPCHC's problem, if not it's the vid file itself.

It is a known fact that float operations aren't associative due to rounding. That is, if a,b,c are floats, we don't know in general that (a+b)+c = a+(b+c).

I am surmising that this also means that the distributive law doesn't hold in the general case. That is, we don't know if a*(b+c) = a*b+b*c. What about special, often used cases, such as n*a, where n is an integer? Do we know that a+a+...+a =n*a?

Is there anyone here with some assembly experience who can clear this up?

If by less noticeable, you mean "oh jesus what the fuck is that", then you are correct. Using any type of polish will smooth out the rough surface which forms part of the antiglare function, which will leave you with a nice, mirror reflective circle where the scratch used to be.

Everything is in USD. It's up to you what you list it at. You need to keep in mind that all your parts (CPU, mobo, GPU) are extremely outdated in many ways. Your only potential buyers are people who can't afford new toys, or somebody who needs an HTPC/spare parts. It honestly won't appeal to a whole lot of people.

I have an old windows 7 computer running small game server.

It is not a public server, I have very few friends who actually play on it. It only gets used maybe 3-4 times a week at most.

I have been getting a shit ton of random IP addresses connecting to it, googling them shows they are from china and shit.

Is there an easy way to blacklist all traffic, except for maybe 4 IP addresses at system level not just the server level?

Do research, read guides, don't do impulsive shit, be patient.

It's hard to actually damage the hardware, but you can loose stability. If you get BSODs run memtest, prime95 or anything to test stability.

Also you are better if you just adjust the max multiplier of CPU clock, MAYBE voltage if necessary, but I wouldn't recommend to try to OC ram, bridges or whatever else. This only lowers stability.

My hard drive constantly heats up and last night it caused a game to freeze.

Or I'm assuming so, anyway.

Speccy showed higher temps than other games, and it's pretty annoying with all the microstutter it has.

>>
>>53771865

Don't know without more details. But it could be when it goes through the bad sectors. And each time it does theres the high chance it causes even more bad sectors.

You could try one program that does a true low level format, some bad sector are just due to magnetic errors on the surface, but be prepared cause that shit takes a very long time. HDD regenerator i think... it may work it may not...

but start backing up your shit immediatly that drive may fail any time soon

i'm in the same position as you

first of all, realize that you're probably never going to actually sit down and sort through everything if you keep saying to yourself "i'll do it later". set a specific date for it: say, once a week, every sunday afternoon.

alternatively, set up a directory hierarchy, and instead of saving and forgetting, spend a few seconds thoughtfully placing it and coming up with a file name. i have a folder for formulaic images, such as image macros and pepes, and a folder for lewd. inside lewd there is a folder for 2d, directories for specific women, webm's, etc.

a directory system is good up until you realize that an image may fit into multiple directories, for example, funny/lewd. here you have a few options. i saw an anon with a collection of pictures of a girl with *booru-like tags in the filename. for example, "bikini striped solo short hair blue eyes.jpg" you could also get a program like hydrus to manage your database. i would also recommend a program called search everything, which is light-years ahead of windows's built-in search.

Disable UEFI. How? it depends on your laptop/computer. Search the web.

Here's the iso download site. Get the iso of the version one you have currently installed. Burn it with IMGBURN or make a bootUSB with Rufus or any other tool you like.

I moved my game install to another drive, that is much much older and only 160gb, and it stopped my issue, but I notice the LoD is still much worse than it was before, so I am sure it is something to do with the read speed of the drive, whether it is dying or not.

So what I've just done is move my game back to the original drive since I defragmented it since moving the game to the smaller drive, maybe that defrag will have fixed it.

windows 10 cannot be reliably de-botnetted from the OS itself. Spybot anti-beacon will get rid of some of it, but a lot of it is baked into system level services, etc that can't be fully disabled without breaking system functionality. The only reliable way to fully block the spying is through a router firewall, and there are (potentially) millions of domains that would need to be constantly monitored and blocked to get a fully exhaustive list.

The hosts file in windows 10 is no longer a reliable method of blocking network traffic.

If you care about stability at all, I wouldn't even recommend 10. Microshit cut back on it's QA department heavily, since the OS is """free""" and updates/telemetry are forced.

Windows 7 is stable as fuck and supported until 2020. Windows 8.1 is supported until 2023 if you don't mind a bit of tweaking and the horrible 2-design paradigm, as a trade-off for speed on older hardware.

No. You clearly don't know much about networking at all. I need a dedicated IP to register and participate on some forum. I want that IP do be tied to me, and only to me, for the years to come. But sadly, my ISP IP range is blacklisted from these forums, so I need a dedicated IP VPN or SSH.

What's currently the cheapest available option to get dedicated IP to post from on that forum?
