Wayland won't be the default display server protocol in Gnome Session on Fedora 24, despite all the hype.
Wayland as default was rescheduled for Fedora 25.

This probably gives Ubuntu 16 and it's Mir display protocol a chance to pick up the pace and attract more people to it.

Same as in any distro, really. Fedora is mostly built around gnome but you can grab a netinstall and pick any DE you like. It will just werk. Fedora netinstaller is also top tier as fuck.
