two or three at most, and only to group things i'm not currently working on
>>
>>53734957

that's the first thing i deactivate when fresh installing the OS.
>>
>>53734957
Using 4.
>>
>>53734957
When I used Ubuntu I used 4
When I used Gnome I used anywhere from 1-5 usually
When I used Cinnamon I used 0
Now that I use OSX I use 0
Mission control is all I need
3 or 4 when working on homework.
>>
5

Two.
One for entertainment, other for school and productivity.
>>
13 with Awesome on my x200s, 4 with plasma-desktop on the desktop (more screen real-estate).
>>
>>53734957
Just one. Using Ubuntu, I have a Virtualbox VM for running FFTPatcher, which only runs on Windows. I'm making a romhack of Final Fantasy Tactics (there's so many of these, but it's a passion of mine)

2-5, usually 4 on laptop
>>
None because I have a four monitors.
>>
4 monitors on my desktop so just the one is needed. 3 on laptop though
>>
2 generally
>>
>>53734957
0, a 4k screens is large enough
>>
>>53734957
3. always. i rarely change the number, sometimes when i'm working on a ton of stuff i'll add more but never less than 3.
>>
4.
>>
>>53737967
that came out kinda weird. generally 3, never less, sometimes more.
>>
>multiple virtual desktops
For what purpose?
>>
>>53734957
Can't live with less than 9
>>
I have 10 enabled, but usually only use ~6. It's i3 though; tiling WMs don't use virtual desktops the same way normal ones do.

Can I use virtual desktops and multimonitors together?

I want to have desktop 0 on monitor 0 and desktop 1 on monitor 1. When I hit the swap I want the two the change. Any ideas?
>>
>>53734957
I have three on my laptop but I usually use two. Laptop screens are so small that they are always full of windows and things don't even fit on the screen at the same time unless they are very small windows. Then they are pretty useless since no information fits there. Virtual desktops give at least some room but you don't see them all at once though.
>>
I use alt+tab
>>
>>53734957
i3wm creates the on the fly
>>
>>53739444
Gnome 3 does as well. I usually have 3-5 but that number shrinks and grows as I do stuff.

>>53737692
You'd think that, but I still find myself wanting more room or wanting to separate stuff for logical reasons.
>>
>>53741283
yeah this is what some people don't get, virtual desktops have nothing to do with space, it's a logical separation thing. like one desktop for code stuff (terminals, text editor, etc.), one for like writing a report (word processor, browser), one for like, idk, 4chan, etc. the purpose is to group related windows together into one neat unit
