Actually, "cleaning up" the power rails for USB powered DACs isn't a bad idea. The problem with that audiophoolish piece of crap is that it doesn't actually isolate the device from the PC PSU, it either just re-regulates the power rail (which would be a really dumb thing to do because you'd have to boost the voltage to 7-8V and then linearly regulate it down again to get 5V) or does nothing at all - with advertisement copy speaking of "34dB of noise instead of 39dB" like they don't know what decibels are, that wouldn't surprise me too much.

I actually have a little USB isolator in front of my USB DAC that actually works - it's got its own linear power supply that it feeds to the DAC while galvanically isolating the data signal. Probably does nothing for sound quality, but I got to design a PCB for it so that's something.

This video is very good, although we have reached the point where pure digital audio can have higher resolution and less jitter than tape recordings.
This is not consumer audio, but a 32-bit 128KHz recording and playback on the best audio equipment you can get, will be better than vinyl in every possible objective measurement.

Digital can be affected by EMI but it is more robust than analog.

I don't even think that heavy machinery in factories is enough to really hamper digital links. It may be an issue in the LHC though.
>>
>>53726180
>Digital can be affected by EMI but it is more robust than analog.
>can be affected
sure, Digital signal can be affected by EMI but unless the digital signal is SO fucking distorted that your computer or the receiver starts error checking, the signal is 100% unaffected. The likelyhood that your specific digital signal receives so much destructive interference from a high voltage source is so fucking unlikely its ridiculous

you have a better chance at losing Wifi signal because you turned on a microwave right next to your wireless router.

All of these home setups are never affected by EMI with digital output
>>
>>53726221
There are also cases where a digital link is one directional, like digital TV, where error checking can't actually request resends of corrupt or lost packets.
>>
>>53726266
>where error checking can't actually request resends of corrupt or lost packets.
and the moment a TV misses one bit? oh yea a pixel turns color or the frame stutters for a fraction of a second you can't even notice

but then again the likelyhood of your coaxial losing signal all the way to your set top box to interference is unlikely as shit

>oh yea a pixel turns color or the frame stutters for a fraction of a second you can't even notice
For a single bit maybe, but more likely you get blocking over half the screen because either more than a single bit is fucked or the single bit is part of the packet header and so the packet as a whole is discarded.
>>

More representative than your greentexting.

We've gone from "digital can't be affected by EMI" to "oh no not a single bit" to "wow a whole packet".

Continue making concessions.

>hd800

FUCK
>>
>>53726584
Yes. Continue with your green text.
It's not like you haven't already displayed your lack of understanding on the subject by the assumption that a single bit difference in a digital video packet would result in the change in color of a single pixel in the image. That's just not how codecs work.
And it's not like EMI on digital links isn't a known issue, especially on high bandwidth links because the clock rates are much higher.

What is the point in buying all this crap when the music you listen doesn't get recorded by using this equipment and "insulation". Also I don't understand why shit like 50000$ "hi-fi" speakers exist, when you would get the most fidelity out of a pair of popular 1500$ studio monitors and room treatment.
Damn, they are actually used for mixing and mastering, so you would listen to music the same way an audio engineer wants.

So we can say that room treatment and studio monitors are literally the best way to objectively enjoy audio the way it's meant to, if you like the faked sound made by vinyl, a shitty tube amp and overpriced speaker/headphone, you may as well fuck it up by putting some DSPs until you achieve a listening experience that pleasures you the most
>>
>>53728966
It's quite obvious that these people aren't after accurate sound but instead they are after whatever they subjectively happen to enjoy the most at a given time and musical content. It's a cycle of endless tweaks and upgrades and many of them are completely unrelated to the sound reproduction.

With the money they spend on this garbage they could have a world class sound system with flush wall mounted monitors, room specifically designed and treated for their setup and DSP correction on every loudspeaker.
>>
>>53729073
No, the real problem with most of these fags is especially that they believe they get the most accurate and "pure" (just to adapt to their buzzwords) sound by buying this crap

Imagine you have money, around 10k each month to spend on whatever

You're also 35 and divorced, and The Wall is the only thing that gets your mind off it.

Well, going full audiophile helps both. You distract yourself from the problems you have in real life with obsessing over tech, and The Wall is maybe 1-5% better to listen to.

Lots of people can't justify spending more than 800$ on a laptop, yet some of us watercool ours and set up 2x 980ti for 3 grand. It hardly makes the game better.

What's the difference, really?
>>
>>53740692
The difference is that audiophile tech just is not actual technology beyond a certain price point. When you start buying fucking cables for several hundred, even thousands of bucks, you simply can't pretend it's still about sound quality. At that point you have no idea what you are doing and are just happy there's yet another thing to waste money on. Just listen to the "explanations" by some of those nutjobs. They have no idea what they are talking about, it's just words that sound meaningful enough to convince themselves to trigger the long awaited placebo effect.

Buying some high end PC on the other hand actually gives you quantifiable benefits, as trivial they may be.
