Where can I find information on system fonts for Windows?
I'd like to deviate from the Segoe UI, Tahoma, and Calibri fonts and try something better and more legible.

I've downloaded Avenir Next and Charis SIL along with Gill Sans and Fira Sans.

Avenir Next is really nice looking but none of them really look good as active title bar fonts and icon fonts.

In chrome, what is the difference between Standard font and serif font, sans-serif font, fixed-width font?

Why do you even need to memorize a program's position in a grid when you can either right-click on desktop to open up a program or ctrl+r on windows?

Metro UI is designed for touch. If you don't have a touch screen monitor, you're not taking advantage of that, and touch screens are expensive.

you can make them even bigger or even smaller. these icons have been the same size since vista, were they made for touch? what about the buttons that are that size on a mac dock?

They were made because people wanted more than 32x32, thus 48x48 and up was made.
Not because of touch devices but because CRT screens were already using 2048*1536 resolutions and TFT had UHD back in 2001.

I said that because launching from either one is easier than hitting winkey or clicking start and mousing over to the program in Metro UI as it is in the screenshot. Metro UI is useless on a non-touch monitor.

What would be faster than mousing or typing in win+r is simply touching in Metro UI, so a touch screen monitor would be the best way to take advantage of Metro UI.

while OS X looks better than most, it has still regressed horribly over the past decade. Some elements are great, while some (particularly the gawdy/tacky overuse of transparency in 10.10/10.11 and ugly new dock) are absolutely disgusting.

The problem with agreeing with most people your age is the fact that most people your age have absolutely shit taste and opinions on most everything.

it exists to lure the least common denominator of new xorg users into thinking that they are 'elite,' 'productive,' or 'hackers' when in reality they don't even have a simple semblance of how their operating system or user programs work (other than running a shell command and having a bunch of dependency-hell bullshit crap up their philosophically impure operating system hierarchy).

Both the majority of its developers and users have no taste, and it definitely shows.

Example: my suite mate randomly installed arch linux on his laptop because people on the internet told him it was the cool thing to do. He knows nothing about how GNU/Linux works whatsoever (other than watching a stupid youtube video telling him how to initially set it up) and just recently installed i3! How surprising!

regardless of how much of an idiot trump is, linux needs people to encourage new people to try it out. even if they never end up maintaining packages for a distro or updating documentation, just the fact that he is using it on the desktop is a win for linux. we need more of that. you're the stereotypical asshole, what new linux users fear when they ask questions

and you're wrong about how people learn. it depends on what they want to accomplish. i started learning how to play guitar by just playing it, not by studying how guitars are built and the history of music theory. would those topics help? sure... but if my only goal is to enjoy strumming some songs, it's not really necessary.

typical boring and uninspired windows b.s.
this is cool to a /w/ poster from 2011 who has a hard-on for ahoka
>>53679550
if I couldn't handle people having different opinions, I would just ignore them. By interacting and responding to you, it shows that I inherently care about what you have to say.
>>53679549
I agree that free and open source operating systems such as GNU/Linux need new users (especially if they are coming from Microsoft Windows), but I find it morally reprehensible that he is installing it simply because he finds that it will make him seem 'cool' and better than the 'average Joe windows user' when he himself is no better. I have never hesitated to give people detailed descriptions ('spoonfeed') of how to maintain (install open source software, etc.) and customize their OS (be it OS X, GNU/Linux, or Windows). Check my post history for this trip which goes back to me doing that in 2010.
>but if my only goal is to enjoy strumming some songs, it's not really necessary.
and you will most likely never be a famous guitarist, as you have superficial knowledge
>>53679602
my superior knowledge of pretty much everything I care about has gotten me a good girlfriends, great grades, great relations with my professors, and just landed me one of the best summer internships in my field. It's okay to be jealous though.
>>
>>53679602
actually that line makes me think he is actually doing a decent job trolling us. that was the verbal equivalent of a neckbeard wearing two fedoras. time to stop investing time on this guy and move on

Does anyone know how to enable anti-aliasing only for specific applications? I want my UI to be disabled, but I can't stand it in Firefox

please, anonymous. you're killing me.

if you had any historical knowledge about /g/ desktop threads (and the best posters over the years), you would realize why what you just said is so stupid

No you aren't. You used to be, and then at some point you got bored and entered an experimental phase that I've witnessed plenty of criticism towards.
You are still generally good at recognizing garbage when it isn't your own though.

agreed. I am objectively the best.
>>53679698
I would rather be hated by the current round of posters, as most of them are trash and have trash opinions about everything (they are literally children).
