I'm using Mint because Fedora won't install on my windows raid dual boot. Why should I try Arch? Seems popular, why?
>>
>>53628473
no.
>>
>>53628473
Check out the install process and see if you think you're up to it.
Some love it, others hate it.
In my eyes the biggest advantage to using Arch is the AUR. It pretty contains everything you would ever need.
It generally requires a higher skill level for Linux but there have been many instances where compete Linux newfags have used it as their first distro and loved it.
The ones who hate it claim it breaks all the time, which is not true if you do things right.

Take the measures you must when using a bleeding edge distro, like not updating constantly and checking updates for serious bug reports before installing them.
Other than that, employ the common sense required to not break any given Linux distro.

No it's not.
>>
>>53628736
Actually, not updating constantly and updating once every few months is really painful on a rolling release. You're pretty much guaranteed it will break violently and you will have to spend a few hours to fix your install.

It's like climbing a stair Vs climbing a wall.

I'm not using Arch atm, but when was using it, I updated once or twice per week, usually at times when I didn't need my computer just in case anything did break and I had to fix it. I never experienced any breakage, though.

I used Ubuntu for some years and then made the switch to Arch. I like to keep up to date with my software which meant having to add PPAs on Ubuntu. I also had to do a complete system upgrade twice a year. In the end I ran into lots of problems using it.

On Arch, I regularly check my updates and that's it. No complete version jumps breaking everything, no sketchy PPAs. I have a minimal amount of packages installed from the AUR. I remember one time having a problem after upgrading CUPS but that's about it.

Since we're talking about software, anyone have a recommendation for file sync backup software? I don't need timestamps, just copying files to a drive on a scheduled basis. Used Cobian backup for years but it's out of support.

Had one of these on my HDD. Here it is.

Along the ones in the image:

- torrent - uTorrent (fuck your opinion 'bout botnet)
- text - plain Notepad
- graphics - MSPaint and seldom Gimp
- video and music - VLC since it's universal for both
