But that's wrong. Humans naturally feel more empathy towards other humans, especially that they know. Humans will go further than animals and deserve to be treated with more respect. Humans can communicate with each other through verbal language, make valued works of art, and share development of the human culture. Humans can more easily form bonds with other humans than animals, and stronger bonds. Animals are both mentally and physically incapable of these things amongst many others.
By your argument, you'd consider killing another human, perhaps of your own family, before a regular farm animal.
