It did great as the device it's marketed to be.
There were other personal media players that did certain jobs better.
As the owner of a 5.5 video who went with the HDD upgrade and, eventually, mSATA over christmas, there is zero regret. Luckily it had the power of a guhzillion customers to fast-track the homebrewing nuts.
Admittedly it's cost me a couple new chassis and _few_ coins over the course.
I'm thinking that the next time I open it, I'll just drown the fucker in some kind of resin and make it bomb-proof.
I actually really appreciate the design of the iPod Classic. I'm considering one but I really don't have that much use for portable music besides listening in my car, and I just stream music via Google Music.
Single-purpose MP3 players are pointless in this day and age. If you bring your phone with you, you already got a music player. If you're an audiophile on the go, well then you're crazy.

I've only got 1.5GB data because it's all I need. I'd rather keep a PMP around than pay monthly for a larget data pack just for music, and even then I've had plenty of times where there's no coverage, so a PMP simply destroys streaming on a phone

You could also just store music on your phone. It's not like streaming is the only way to listen to music on the phone. And with everyone (but Apple) having expandable storage, you can reach as high as microSDs can go as high as 128GB on your phone. No networks needed

Battery is starting to fade. Lasts barely 2 days anymore. And with that I mean usage of maybe 1 or 2 hours per day.
Also it is fucking annoying that it turns on every time I plug or unplug headphones.
