How the fuck can I deactive those shitty automatical windows updates? Doing some clients work now and have to be finished within 2 hours, suddenly windows message pops up "your computer is going to restart now". Updates for already 45 minutes and still at 30%.

Why microsoft is doing that? I mean it just makes people even more angry

Is possible to find something with regex and if that thing is not found he goes to the next rule and continue?

I have a string ABC, i want to search with the same regex to find BC.

regex is hell
>>
>>53552223
>>53552232
How do you plug in both mouse and keyboard though?
The screen is outdated.
>>
>>53552265
Also, the current computer is being used for pritning, scanning and uploading images as well, so need additional ports.
>>
>>53552265
its got a micro USB and full size USB comes with a micro USB to full size adapter. Comes with mini HDMI port. just have to buy an adapter for mini HDMI and it works fine. Its a USB 3 port. just grab a USB 3 hub and you're good to go

How long do Windows 10 updates stay hidden when hidden using wushowhide? Is it permanent or will it appear again after a certain amount of time?

>I have a string ABC, i want to search with the same regex to find A and BC.
I have one regex that can find A and another that can find BC
>>
>>53552303
>>53552293
Would the HUB work with 2.0 USB, since the keyboard and mouse aren't even using USB ports, they're so outdated.
I'm buying this computer for my father, he's 60+, and I don't want a lot of maintenance, that's why a lot of stuff he's using is very old.
>>
>>53552375
okay sounds like you're using a ps/2 mouse and keyboard. The only thing you would need is the compute stick, A USB hub, a USB keyboard and mouse, and a HDMI screen with a HDMI to mini HDMI converter. Sounds like you probably don't have a hdmi monitor if the old computer really is that old.
>>
>>53552403
That's why I wanted an actual PC, I read the stick is more maintenance, I don't want to come every week for some update issues or anything, but anyway to my initial question;
Is there a need for a dedicated GPU, or will the G3260 integrated gpu do well enough?
>>
>>53552328
the whole point of Windows 10 is that you have no complete control over what happens with it anymore. Since Microsoft doesn't release their source code, nobody can really know if they will find a way to enable updates on your pc.
in short, expect updates to appear without warning at any time.
>>
>>53552422
>>53552422
Nah there is probably no need for a GPU. But to be safe you should probably go for a cheap AMD APU build which is where the processor has better graphics onboard.
>>

Does it really matter if I get a new RAM? Right now I have 4xDDR3 2GB 1333 MHz Ram and I wanted 2xDDR3 4GB 1600 MHz.

I mean, Is there any difference? I think there's isn't but I don't know that much about RAMs
>>

I am usually slightly more biased towards intel, but I had an amd A4 in one of my laptops which is still working fine today. I would go with an amd A8-7650k only because you're going to have trouble finding any brand new ones of the few you listed

Download an 'introduction to' textbook for some language and work through it.

Purists will recommend C, c++ is great for pure functionality, but if you want to make a program fast, c# or java is a good choice.

I downloaded Netbeans on Linux Mint, but... nothing works. I click to open a make a new project, and it creates the files, but i'm not able to edit them, or run them, the GUI builder doesnt work and loads infinitively, i cannot open any existing projects. Literally nothing works.

I'm thinking i either have to re-install it, or some dependancy isnt working (maybe the wrong java framework installed?), or im doing something majorly wrong within netbeans but i doubt that because i cant do anything wrong when nothing works to begin with

I'll preface by saying I've literally never owned or even used a Mac before.

Is it true that they rarely get viruses or is it just a meme? My parents are always getting all kinds of malware and other garbage on their Dell PC and I'm about to tell them to just buy a Mac.

So yea, are Macs really retard proof or nah?

If I have seperate partitions for / and /home, do I need to worry about overwriting /home if I install a distro with a manual install, i.e. switching from ubuntu to arch?
>>
>>53553754
Neither. The improvement in GPU performance over the 290 is minimal.

If you just want to get sensible temps/noise and a bit of overclocking, just add an aftermarket cooler such as the Arctic Accelero Extreme to your card.

All computers can get malware.

Its just easy to get in windows because its more popular and there are a good amounts of exploits for it and tech illiterate people fall for them.

>>
>>53553789
Macs are less likely but definitely not immune. My friend has a macbook pro and it's been having problems with java failing to update correctly.

If all they need is an internet/email machine, then you could try ubuntu on their current pc and switch if they don't like it
>>
>>53553847
Thanks! I was looking at that one. Do you know any that are more affordable?
>>
>>53553789
Traditional viruses (i.e. can self replicate) pretty much don't exist in the wild for OS X, but other kinds of malware exist, mostly in the form of trojans or drive-by download through bowser exploits.
>>
>>53553889
I don't unfortunately, maybe you could try out the cheaper versions of Final Cut?

Best image viewing app for Android that plays webm?

Looking for something that I can swipe rapidly between videos, pictures webms and gifs. Shuffle mode would be awesome. Stock viewer you have to click on a webm twice, back button twice, swiping in the video only changes the time and not the video.

Yes, this is for porn purposes.

Anyone have any suggestions for properly editing the text in a flash game? (Packed into a flash player .exe, it's a Japanese DLsite game that I want to do a translation for)

Tried various decompiler type programs but none of the scripts contained the text I was looking for. I could find it easily enough after opening the .exe with Notepad++ and ctrl+f ing some of the text, but I cannot edit it this way. Get a GTX 980 for $460 if you want to notice a good upgrade and play FF14@60FPS.

You can upgrade to a R9 390X for $390 but the upgrade will be too small to justify the upgrade for that price.

1. I want to put Remix OS on my old computer but it's having difficulty doing so. Do I really need a 3.0 USB stick?
I have an adapter that came with my 2TB that is 3.0. However the 2tb is bork, and I need to send it to seagate. No I'm never buying seagate again. at a 33% fail rate, why?
I was thinking, can I use the adapter with 1 of my other small laptop HDDs as a USB stick that makes it think its like FAT32?

2. Why did the people that made a netbook think it was a good idea to put only 1 gb of RAM, Windows 7 Starter, and the shittiest of parts in it? this poor thing can't handle windows 7 at all. I can't even get Windows XP to run. It can barely handle mint. Who's fucking idea was this?

>>
>>53554292
Because the plan back then was just to make a ultralightweight laptop, not a good one.

Nowdays they are strong enough but old ones are just plain shit.

Todays standards are a quadcore atom or celeron @2.20GHz, 2-4GB RAM and 32-64GB Storage with a weight of 1.2KG or less.
Thank 2-1 laptops for the new standards.

See lenovo 100s or ASUS X205TA and most budget 2-1 laptops.

There is a PowerColor plastic branding thing on my graphics card. It doesn't cover the fan but it does cover the heat sinks. Would I benefit from removing it (lower temperatures) or does it not matter?

Also what about the removable parts on the front of the computer that you remove when inserting a new disk or the ones at the back when adding another GPU? Should I keep the metal things there or remove them for better airflow?

Literally no microphone with 3.5mm works on my system, everything worked fine yesterday and today nothing works. The microphone is still being deceted by windows but it doesn't record any sound. If I listen to it and raise my speaker volume I only hear a low static sound, if I fiddle with the plug it sparks a bit but no matter how hard I shour at the mic, it won't pick up any sound.

Usb microphones work fine and so does the 3.5mm speakers.

Pink 3.5mm Front or back panel doesn't matter, the microphone gets detected, I make sure all levels are maxed and not muted but it still doesn't pick up any sound. I know the microphone still works since I tested it on another system.

Spent the last hours googling like a maniac, I've tried removing drivers and using old drivers, no success. My frist thought was that it was something with the 3.5 jack itself, but it seems unlikely that both front and back stops working at the same time.

Any ideas?

1. you can install almost any linux to a given USB stick large enough to hold it. I've done this. It's pretty cool
2. yes and no. You could just install the Vbox contents to the USB drive and it would stick there if you went to another computer or something.

If your idea is to make the 2 work in Vbox and reg PC like it's it's own hdd, they are completely different. The computer wont read it like you want.

OR there is an option in VMware where you can copy your current OS and turn it into a virtual OS. However, I don't think you can go backwards so any data there, you better be ready to port over to that OS when you redo it again. I've never tried this but it sounds really interesting

So guys I made a fatal mistake at trying to perform a pre-os partition operation with a 3rd party program. It encountered an error and corrupted the drive because I am a dumbass.

Regardless I was able to recover most of the files from backup. However some files had to be recovered using another 3rd party program. I went with EaseUS. It worked but the files are unusable. I get various error messages saying the file is unparsable or unreadable etc.

What program or method should I go about renewing these files? Hiring a professional to do it seems like a total rip off.

The way I understand it when a program is installed on GNU/Linux it basically places it resources, libraries and executables in the right places and updates the path environment variable so that, for example, when I type java something.class it knows where to search for the main executable and do it's bussiness. Is this correct?

So what happens when you want to have two versions of the same program installed? I, as a user could do some mumbo jumbo and make it so that the latest java is called with just java, and java 1.6 with java6, but I'm trying to build something, it needs the older version of java, but only knows to invoke it with a simple 'java'.

How do I go around this problem? If anyone cares, I'm trying to build android from source and it needs both java 1.6 and make 3.81.

I need to build the kit kat version of the android, and it requires java 6 for that task. Only the latest main branch uses java 8.

Is there a reason why you can't just point to the specific path of the java version you want for the specific operation?

When I said they shouldn't share space, I mean the files they read and write to shouldn't be in the same space as this can cause conflict so be sure to point one to "temp/java6" and another to "temp/java7". Although that's really only an issue if they run at the same time.
