The US really just needs to switch to a better voting system, like instant runoff voting(IRV) or approval based voting. Republican and Democratic primaries would be made obsolete and pointless in one swoop. People wouldn't be forced to choose the most mediocre candidate possible. People could vote for many candidates at once, even across party lines(like a third party) if they're particularly dissatisfied with who's running. I think approval voting would be the easiest change. It's basically identical to the current system but the ballots are set up so you can vote for any number of candidates. You would only need to change the wording of the ballots so it specifies that you can pick any or all of the candidates and then the voting machines would need to be set up to so they can accept multiple votes per section.

Hospitals up the street from each other use different systems and can't transfer records. At this point paper s actually still superior because it doesn't get hacked and can be more easily transferred. It will probably take a decade or more at the current rate before these problems are fixed.
