-back your shit up and have at least three different locations of storage, not necessarily physical
-if possible, don't keep your back ups in a physical medium, if you do, don't keep that medium in your home or office where others can steal it, bank vaults are good place to keep it
-not keeping personal/sensitive information on your computer
-if you're just browsing, use live usb
-never use your name online
-don't ever think your email is private
-anything you write online, write it as if you were publishing it to the new york times front page
-don't use a smartphone if you are worried about being tracked
-if you are a journalist/activist and are engaged in illegal activities, keep no evidence by not storing it on your computer to begin with
-encrypt your files upload them to a dropbox style storage
-don't do anything illegal
