>Keeping your PC running for more than 8 hours straight
How often do you turn your PC off /g/?
>>53496178
Every few years
Every night because I don't run any servers locally, and I pay my own electric bill.
When I go to bed.
>>53496178
Every few weeks.
>>53496178
Laptop everyday, the server when I change the hardware/update the OS
I usually put it in sleep mode when I go to bed.
Is this alright for it?
About once a week

When my house loses power
It gets turned on when I wake up and turned off when I go to sleep. But when I am at work it is off.
Never, because I seed.
I don't because it takes 2 minutes to post, it has to check all of the ECC RAM
though I have had a lot of power outages recently
>>53496178
27/7
>>53497551
>I turn off my laptop
>27 hours a day
>7 days a week
>>53496178
Phone sends WOL packets at 8 in the morning to turn it on, I turn it of when I go to bed
Quick question. How do i keep my pc from losing memory and crashing? All i run is foobar and am constantly low on ram.
>>53497638
Download more ram
>>53497638
buy more than 1gb next time
>>53496178
every night or when i'm going to be out for an extended period. no sense on keeping it running, especially since it boots up in under 15 seconds.
>>53496178
turn off? never
put to sleep? every night
>>53497654
I tried that already, all i was able to get was 40 megabytes of ram from the cnet pc experts. and my pc is an asus with 6gb of ram
Every couple months I reboot for updates. My server runs indefinitely, there are no updates that require a reboot for it
My record is 60 days for my desktop
uptime 415:15:33:41
>>53496178
Do it often after I got a SSD. Before that almost never.
>>53497638
Install gentoo and run foobar in wine
When I go to bed or go outside.
Tfw my MacBook has been on or sleep mode for 99% of the time the past 5 years. I literally never turn it off.
When I compile a new kernel. Which can be every few months or every few days.
>>53496178
only when i go away for a couple days
Isn't it generally a bad idea to go a long time without rebooting if you're not using ECC RAM? I would have thought that cosmic rays would cause weird shit to happen if you let it go for too long.
I generally only reboot when I need to. I guess I should put it to sleep when I leave for extended periods, though.
I leave my server always on (small nas), my desktop only when i need it, my laptop goes to sleep when I close the lid and I never shut it down, only if it's really asking for updates or
Wait, computers turn off?
>09:46:38 up 116 days, 19:44, 11 users, load average: 5.74, 5.31, 4.71
11 users? Okay I'm fairly new to linux so is this a sign that I've been china'd or something
>>53496178
every night, or when im going out and not downloading anything
>>53497609
Is something like this easy to setup?
>Current Year
>Turning off your Computer
>>53500060
It's not difficult, but it has to be ethernet, not wifi.
>>53500036
kek
Once a week or two weeks
>>53497609
How does it your mobile know when you fall asleep? Measures your hardbeat?
>inb4 turns mobile off and goes to sleep, kek
>>53496178
Everytime i don't plan to use it within the next 20 mins, because why the fuck should I keep a device running which I don't use
Keeping computers on reduce their lifespan, especially if it's a laptop.
Am I right, /g/ ?
Give me some (You)s
Please?
16 hours desu
>>53496178
Probably never again unless a program needs it to.
only when I reinstall. Other than that, it runs 24/7
>Uptime 23:07:55:51
Should I turn it off some hours?
