Also, for all you guys talking about replicas...
I'm in agreement that replicas are lame, but an homage isn't a replica.
Sure there's a fine line, but the bottom line is that this particular watch says "Borealis" and not "Tudor."
If anyone asks about it, I'm perfectly comfortable saying that Borealis is a nice microbrand that makes quality watches that are also affordable. I'm not flashing it around saying, "Look at my $4,000 watch, you poor fucks!"

>>
>>53489918
Thanks man, and I appreciate the tip. I thought of putting it on leather, but I felt like it would look dumb since its only 17 mm. Do dress watches look good with a 17 mm strap? I don't believe I've ever actually seen one

Plated in copper. Omega used to do that on their movements back when they were a good company. Sometimes people claim it's rose gold but they're idiots, it's copper.

Speidels are pretty old fashioned, leather would look a lot better if you're less than 80 years old. My strap is from Hirsch and I would highly recommend it but I don't know if it comes in 17mm. You could also buy an 18mm strap and cut notches to make it fit but if you cut it badly it'll look like shit.

Casio PRG-270 is a rather good deal, a fair bit cheaper than 200 eur. Has altimeter, barometer, compass. Does not have atomic time like some higher end models, has solar. There's also a partly steel version available if you want a bracelet.
>>
>>53490258
Looks good, but might potentially be very expensive - milaneese mesh bracelet
I find them extremely comfy and very nice looking, though on that watch you would need a gold one, which would cost fortune or something similiary looking that would flake/brush off pretty fast and look bad
Leather is probably the best choice, black or brown, maybe with some interesting texture
Since you don't seem to like leather too much(neither do I), maybe perlon strap ?
>>
>>53490615
>Casio PRG-270
I rather have plastic, than steel. How is the glass on it? Sapphire or something else? How badly/easily can you scratch it?

You should definitely consider an EULIT perlon strap.

Its mineral. I've only had mine for a relatively short period of time, can't comment exactly, but the crystal is recessed enough (compared to bezel) that I wouldn't imagine it getting scratched too easily (I've used similar g-shocks in the past w/ mineral glasses, no scratches on their crystals either, bezels really do wonders - my "regular" watches have had quite some chipping)

definitely not worse in any real way, except for lacking handwinding

but in my opinion, when it comes to the seiko 5 - vostok - orient holy trinity of poorfag watches, there is no big real difference. none of them are, in my experience, clearly better than the others.

vostok is, of course, the least normal and has probably the worst finishing - but its also the cheapest and most unique. the seikos and orients have quick set date but they lack handwinding. accuracy - no difference after a regulation, all are equally acceptable, but vostoks tend to be worse straight out of the factory.

well, its about as big as an average non-square g-shock.

its actually not thick at all, only 14-15mm, so it is only about as thick as an amphibia w/ 420 case

they're big watches but the huge bezels and plasticness help, they don't wear like a goddamn panerai

on average wrists, I'd say they're ok, and they're definitely not unacceptable if you dress in jeans and a t-shirt, though that is of course subjective as heck.

I guess this thread is as good as any to ask:
How often do you change your daily driver? I mean, do you wait for it to die, then you try and resurrect it and if it fails, then get a new one or you just have a time span or once you saw something that you liked?
>>
>>53492976

I change pretty much every few days. Sometimes I coordinate with outfits. But most of my watches are usually in a rotation.
>>
>>53492976
You mean how often you get rid of your current watch and get a new one? I regularly wear watches that are 30-50 years old, there's no reason why it would die if you take decent care of it and keep it serviced.

I feel like it would be too difficult to use and read.
The computers in planes already tell them what they need to know. I bet most of them can do at least some of the most necessary conversions in their heads. Might be good to have as a last resort in the event of an emergency, though. This is all speculation as I'm not a pilot nor do I know any pilots.

My 36mm bagel doesn't really fit my gf with ~5.5" wrists.
Take a caliper and measure the height across your wrist, if it's at least 45mm it should be fine. If you don't want a degenerate oversized "look".
Look into vintage models or Air King / 34mm Oyster Perpetual if you must have a non-femininely sized Rolex.

That's Dirskie with a very gaudy looking dial, but i dig the brass case.

And the Vostok 2414A, like the one you bought, doesn't have one. The 2416B movement that Amphibia's have does have overwind protection/mainspring clutch~

But you can easily feel when you have fully wound it up.

And if you're making a strap, make a bund strap like pic related for an authentic look.
>>
Any smartwatch worth getting?

>>53501955
They're shit. Some people like to buy one specific model to mod it, but it involves a lot of work to make it passable and you're still left with what is at best a mediocre watch.
Otherwise it's all overpriced, low quality, gaudy designs chinese shit.
>>
>>53502013

I liked the dial because it was easy to read and it wasn't ugly.
I'll probably get used to it, but the only mechanical time piece I've used was a larger stopwatch. The mainspring in the Vostok feels small and delicate in comparison.

That's exactly the kind of strap I was planning on.
I like the one in your example better than mine; do you have another picture of that band?

>>53504445 here. Okay, wait, maybe you shouldn't elaborate.
This isn't /int/, and I don't want it to go off-topic from watches.
Have a nice day anon, let's say I respect your opinion.

I haven't bought it yet. I don't know much about watches. So I should stay away from Danish Design?

Also, what's so bad about quartz?

Yes. They're overpriced garbage.

>Also, what's so bad about quartz?
Quartz isn't bad. It's only uninteresting to be people actually interested in watches and watch movements.
If you don't care about your watch being mechanical because you only care about the dial and case design anyway, you should by all means buy a quartz, man.

Yeah, HMT:s are a particularly shitty recommendation for beginners.

Buy one if it would be just for fun / collecting and you don't mind if its absolutely shit. Don't buy one if it would be your first/only/main watch.

That watch doesn't go well with that shirt.
Also: why should he get the Seiko leather strap?
Wouldn't it be wiser to get the bracelet, since it's way easier and cheaper to acquire a leather strap from third party companies?

There is nothing inherently wrong with quartz.

Or more accurately, there is nothing wrong with GOOD quartz.

If you're richdane I respect you as a poster but not your country.
Urban Jürgensen isn't bad but pretty bland and uninteresting. Guess it's better than vintage Patek though.

Nothing is wrong with quartz, the best watch in the world* is GOOD quartz but what you posted is low end chinkshit that cost 10€ to make.
