Hey guys im going to buy the PowerColor Radeon R9 380 with 4gb of GDDR5 ram for 189 Euros. Do you think im going to make a huge mistake or is it a good deal? Also do you have some other GPU s which costs from 150-200 Euros but is better?

Why to the Vidya Games thread `? I know some post it there but a GPU is more related to Technology than to Video Games.

Go for it fag

>>53432012
What do you need a powerful graphics card for?

Thats why i said mostly Gaming....
>>
>>53431982
I would rather buy the MSI one.

Currently the 380 is better or on par than the 970 in DX12 titles so go for it
>>
>>53432282
you don't need a gpu at all for programming, you dunce.
>>
>>53432285
The MSI one uses more Watts than the PowerColor one thats why i chose this one? Should i rather get the MSI one or maybe even the one from Sapphire
>>
>>53432301
Maybe he doesn't have iGPU? Altough yes you are right. Unless his Gaymen Programmer.
>>
>>53432321

Oh.. Well I got a Gigabyte one which supposedly the cheapest, with only a single 8 pin connector.

Sapphire is great but only 2 year warranty
>>
>>53432329
If he was going to lie why didn't he say 3D modeling? No one cares if he's only going to play games with his GPU.

>The MSI one uses more Watts than the PowerColor one

That isn't how it works, champ. They use the exact same GPU and anything else is negligible. You were likely just looking at results from two different sites, and most can't take accurate power consumption readings to save their life.

That said, you should buy Sapphire. They're the best brand for AMD cards, always.
>>
/g/ thinks that only loonix and programming is tech OP.

They fail to realize a GPU can be used for a lot more than gaymen. And that is why this board is trash with the >>>>/v/ spam
>>
>>53432363
I suck at Programming so thats why i play game most of the time.
>>
>>53432046
So basically just gaming.

>>>/v/
>>
>>53432415
How many people who make GPU threads are using them for things other than games? Don't fool yourself.
>>
Buy the Sapphire Nitro instead: it has better VRM and condensators and also better HSF.
On Windows, its probably excellent card already, but on linux it will great when the amdgpu (both kernel and the xorg driver) matures.
>>
>>53432437
V = Video Games GPUs still belong to Technology even if I use it for Gaming
>>53432406
So I should rather buy the Sapphire Radeon R9 380 Nitro which costs about 10 Euros more ?
>>
>>53431968
I have the sapphire 380 4GB, and it's alright. I can play Mad Max at over 50fps with settings pretty high at 1080p. I play arkham knight at 720p mid settings and I get 40fps if I'm really lucky. I also do street fighter V on max settings 60fps at 1080p, slow in some intros. the 380 can't touch the 970 whoever said that stupid comment. it's comparable to the 960 really. I'm an AMD fan, but if I had to buy the card all over again, I'd get the 960. I'm used to amd drivers and didn't want to change brands in my pc. maybe the 380x could beat the 960.

if you're happy with a mid level gaming pc, something a little better than a ps4 or xbone, get the 380. I wish now I would have dropped the extra $100 and get a 390 or 390x. street fighter V looks really nice running at 4k downscaled to 1080p (VSR), I can run it in slow motion at like 20fps.
>>
>>53432494
How can u say that the GTX 960 is better? I saw alot of Benchmarks and the R9 380 nearly won everytime. The 960 4gb Costs the same as the 380 so why should i buy the 960 :?
>>
>>53432460
Yeah well /g/ shouldn't care either way. This is a tech board and hardware is tech. This board circle jerks around distros but one thread made about a gpu and you fucks go haywire
>>
>>53432406
Why is sapphire best? What if you don't have enough space for Triple fan?
>>
>>53432494
Homie...

The 380x is currently BTFO-ing the 970.

Hitman:

Gtx960 DX11: 33.2 DX12:33.3
R9 380: DX11: 46: Dx12: 44
>>
>>53432547
Not him but when Asus, Gigabyte usually gives the same visuals to every GPU, no mather if AMD or NVIDIA. The reason Sapphire and EVGA is so great because they only need work on one brand, not two
>>
>>53432419
Maybe invest the time into programming to get better at it?
>>
>>53432632
Too lazy im a fat shit.
>>
>>53432488
>>53432535
But you're using it for the express purpose of playing video games. Video games are software, and therefore fall into the category of technology too, but it makes more sense for video gsme discussion to be on /v/. Same goes for discussing consoles like Xbox and Gameboys. Those are hardware technology but belong on /v/ rather than /g/.

they cost the same because they are competing for that price range. as for the 960, it has nvidia gameworks, which is some extra particle features, in arkham knight (I know it's older and unoptimized) there's extra smoke effects and debris on the ground. not a huge deal but it's something amd just doesn't do.

http://wccftech.com/batman-arkham-knight-nvidia-gameworks-batmobile-video-showcases-smoking-effects/

forgot to mention I did get the 380 because of the dx12 issue. I haven't kept up with it, apparently nvidia doesn't do dx12 or some shit. the few game I do have are dx11 so it doesn't matter either way, but I guess it depends what games you play. I don't play gay ass hitman.
>>
>>53432494
The 380x averages 47fps in Arkham Knight with max settings at fucking 1440p, 75fps at 1080p. I don't see any reason why you'd be getting 40fps at 720p unless you're using an FX-4100 or some shit and bottlenecking the hell out of your 380.

I doubt the difference between the 380 and 380x is that drastic.

Nvidia does DX12 but he doesn't do realy Async. Now Im not 100% sure thats why AMD is doing better in DX12 games, but for any reason, AMD is doing better currently.

You know you getting BTFO -d when you see this
>>
>>53432674
Looks fine for me .
>>
>>53432701
*Real Async.. Just emulated.
>>
>>53432701
Where the fuck is 290X? If you put 290 in your review, make sure 290x is there as well.
And where the fuck is FuryX?
>>
>>53432679
arkham knight is a bad example, but it's my own personal experience here. when you get into the batmobile, the fps drop in half. if you have the game you know what I'm talking about. I think it's a single game on a 380 that will perform worse than the console counterparts. Mad max is locked to 30fps on consoles (so I read) but I get almost 60fps. also street fighter, on ps4 settings are set to mid, I have them set to max and can even do 1440 while doing 59fps. arkhamn knight is a pos on the pc, that's why steam gave owners all the other batman games for free as an apology. I'm not a gamer, I figured for $200 I could have a next gen console like gaming system. sure it beats out the ps4/xbone, but when you see what you could have with say a 390, I wish I would have spent a little more and got the next model up.
>>
>>53432729
The 390x is basicaly the excat same as the 290x 8gb version.

The 390 is the 290 but now with 2 different VRAM count
>>
>>53431968

I have one in my mini-itx case, it's running about 110â‹… fahrenheit after OCing it. The fans are running at 30% any higher and they'll sound like a jet engine. I'm getting 60 fps in most games at 1080p but I play xcom and mobas so nothing intensive. Good card for the money, I only got mine as a place holder for the new cards.
>>
>>53432797
390(x) has 1500mhz memory with lower timing in stock, 290(x) starts with 1250 and good luck getting over ~1400. Sometimes it makes a huge difference.
>>
>>53432841
Ahhh, sorry didn't knew that. So its not a really a rebrand.

Sadly there is not enough benchmark up there. It would be save to assume its between the 390x and the 390
>>
So PowerColour,MSI or Sapphire?
>>
>>53432701
again I own an AMD 380, it's my upgrade from a 4870. hitman is optimized to use amd dx12. looking at the recommended specs for doom they're saying a 970 or a 290, it depends on what games you are looking to play.
>>
>>53432961
The division is a GameWorks title and runs better on AMD

Hell the 270x(!) Runs better than the 960!
>>
>>53432494 This anon right here

I got a gtx 960, bought it last summer and i thought that it was going to do just alright with the current titles. Didn't even consider AMD cause im a dumb shit.

Nevertheless, if you're looking for a gaming GPU anon, i suggest you save up some dosh and consider buying either a 390 or a 970.

Amd currently is going beast mode with DirectX but Nvidia has more features in some games, like this anon said >>53432674
I upgraded for Killing Floor 2 specifically and when they announced that the new Nvida Flex system was going to launch, got hyped for no reason because the minimum recommended was a 970 , which the 960 is total crap, compared to it.

TL;DR If you're doing an investment for gaming, save up and buy a better card.
>>
>>53432921
I always love sapphire, they've been making cards since the beginning. but look at the clock speed, loudness of the cooler, and warranty.

>>53432990
read the last part of my post, then read the post after yours because that guy agrees with me (both times) so now don't you feel like a salty bitch.
>>
>>53432921

Sapphire-MSI-Powercolor

in that order
>>
>>53433077
>A $149 card beating a $229 card
>Salty for pointing out
>>
>>53433077
The only available Sapphire version is one with a Dual-X cooler do you realy think i should get that one instead of the PowerColour?
>>
>>53433094
But its the Nitro Version with a Backplate.
>>
>>53433148
sapphire is nice, I got the 380 nitro without the backplate fml. don't know where you're buying, but newegg has a 380x for $200 after MIR.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150761

not as fast as the overclocked sapphire, but it's the 380x has more processors.

or for $75 more after rebate you can get the 390 with overkill 8GB of memory. the best part, is it comes with hitman. which makes it almost worth it if you're gay enough to play hitman.

>>53431968
Get the Shappire Nitro R9 380 4GB DDR3 with backplate
>>
>>53433373

I got Nitro with the backplate one.

Its looks cool, but i don't really get the point of its.
>>
>>53433373
I live in germany so no newegg for me .
>>
>>53432285
I bought the MSI one last night to go with my MSI Gaming MoBo, the 380x was the same price but I chose aesthetics over performance.

kek
>>
>>53434175
most backplates don't spread any heat nowadays, they just look cool and sometimes provide extra support for the cooler

No. unless you want to get cucked by Nvidia in less than a half year.
But its your choice.

I have the same video card. It's working well so far.

>>53436457
what do u mean

Stop, this is always pathetic.
>>
>>53436555

Outdated tech and hardware.
Next gen in couple months.
>>
>>53436555

Nvidia pretty much will abandon 900 series in favor of DX12 because that line up only can emulate Directx12 and no Async like AMD GPU.

That's why AMD been leading in new games these days.
>>
>>53436586
Could I buy it with warranty and like trade send it back?
>>
>>53433168
i have a sapphire r9 390 nitro non backplate version and its sturdy enough to not sag
my cousin has a powercolor r9 390 and its also pretty good
i heard MSI turns off its fans until it reaches a certain temp but i personally like the quite humming of fans so im pretty happy with my card
>>
>>53431968
it's a fine choice as long as you have a really fast intel cpu to offset the terrible drivers.
>>
I'm gonna buck the tend here as say gigabyte 380 4GB SOC
it has a bace clock of 990MHz, but anons are right MSI has the hightest clock speed of all the 380 4GB's at a whooping 1000Mhz

far higher than the sapphire 380 4g of 970Mhz
>>
>>53436581
you're saying it makes more sense to post about gameboys and xboxes on /g/ instead of /v/?
>>
>>53438985
If it's about the hardware, parts, etc., here.
If it's about the games, /v/.
This is very simple.
>>
>>53438999
But video games are software, which is technology, so they belond here too?
>>
>>53438999
>>>/lgbt/
>>
>>53439021
/v/ is a board dedicated to that specific branch of software. /v/ isn't for hardware, so where the fuck else should it be?
>>
>>53439062
What makes you think it excludes hardware?
>>
What about the r9 380 2 gb version. Is 2 gb not enough for 1080P gaming?

I know that some games like Shadows of Mordor use an insane amount of vram, but still more than 2 seems like a waste if you're only using 1 monitor.
>>
>>53439123
I've been there, it's 95% about the games. Hardware is technology, and can be here.
>>
>>53439062
you can actually go on /v/ right now and ctrl+f xbox, 3ds, playstation, and video card and all of them find a result
>>
>>53439142
Yes, but /v/ users are mostly retarded about technology. If people want to have a discussion with people who understand the hardware and what it's capable of, it should be allowed here. Can't be worse than real shitposting.
>>
>>53432460
Even if it's for games. It's not like we discuss video games like /v/ does. So in fact its more on our side of the discussion. We'd rather talk about higher clock speed & more ram then /v/. They'd just talk about getting the story and graphics.
