I thought it was a meme, but after going back to Windows 7, I am convinced it is much, much better than Windows 10.

Windows 7 is cohesive. The start menu is unbloated and the search functionality is just what it should be.

Every "benefit" Microsoft lists from upgrading is actually bad.

How do people defend this? Literally the only good thing I've seen is that the boot time is faster. Big deal.

maintaining old versions of windows is a gateway drug to installing linux

I didn't like vista, so I stayed on XP for a while and then one day.. poof - I had a debian partition just like that
never been the same since

Are you sure that you used Windows 10?
>>
>>53357763
Win10 hibernates the kernel so it is actually even faster than linux.

Well at least you made a good choice not using a poorly pieced together OS

yeah I'd also rather have another XP where everyone was getting pwned left and right

The onedrive thing is an annoying piece of shit that constantly tries to turn itself back on to "sync all your files" and runs automatically every time you restart, I fucking hate it. I didn't ask for it and it gives you no option to uninstall it
>>
>>53359451
You can remove it with a command.

if you don't even know how to add or remove startup programs any criticism you might offer is basically worthless
>>
>>53357814
Nope. When I boot my HDD based Ubuntu GNOME laptop it boots in around 10 seconds, and when I arrive at the desktop, HDD activity completely stops (i.e. ready to use).

My SSD based Windows 10 desktop, however, boots in around 4-5 seconds, but when I arrive at the desktop I have to wait fucking forever (talking nearly a minute here) before I can actually do anything because the HDD is so bogged down with usage.
>>
>>53357814
Win 10 does have a pretty fast boot, I'll give it that.

Linux Mint has none of those problems either.

My crappy ass $200 netbook with embedded eMMC running Windows 10 Pro boots as fast as my desktop PC with an SSD running Windows 7, so yeah. I'd say it's faster.
>>
>>53359560
Or you know, instead of using a third party addon to replicate the features of windows 7, you could just use windows 7

O&O ShutUp 10 gives you options to deal with that. As well as other annoyances.

Enjoy your slow file transfer bug.

Since windows 8 the OS doesn't actually "boot" so to say. They added something called "fast start" which really just hibernates your kernel session on shutdown, you can of course turn this off. So no, faster booting since windows 8 is an illusion.
>>
>Useless botnet Cortana
Well, if you find it useless is ok, for me, it works better than Google.

>Always on updates
Why is this a problem?

>Required Microshill account
Actually optional

>App store
You can delete his. Also, there has been more Windows development thanks to this, there are things you can only find here.

>Constant ads for said app store
Completely optional

>Built-in OneDrive
Optional, and for those who use this, is very useful.

>Built-in XBOX
You can delete this

Here are other things
>Ribbon in Explorer
The main reason I don't go back to Windows 7. Ribbon is super useful in Explorer, file management without it is complicated.

>Multiple Desktops
Useful for organizing your stuff.

>Aesthetics
There is no custom theme for Windows 7 that looks as good as Windows 10 theme.

>Start Menu
I can place my more favorites on my W10 Start Menu than W7's
>>
>>53356946
for me Windows 10 has much better window management, much better compositing (seriously fuck Aero, it's bloated trash), and better app and driver support. It's also faster in pretty much every way

I want to go back, but i have fallen so hard into the win10meme that i cant go back.

I am too lazy to go back to windows 7 and reconfigure everything back to the way it was.

My motherboard doesn't even have sata3 for my ssd.
>>
>>53358763
>all these "just turn it off"s

Revised list of "benefits" offered by Windows 10:
>Always on updates

A feature available on Windows 7 by turning on automatic updates.
>>
>>53357814
HAHA no.
In my experience Linux is as fast on an HDD as Windows 10 is on an SSD.
>>
>>53364314
Becuse reading a whole memory dump back into memory is much slower than just running it again on modern hardware. However the older your computer is the faster will win10 be compared to linux

Same thing happened with my friend, he's never been the same since. I can't look him in the eyes anymore it's taken over his life. All day and all night linux this linux that. He's become so dependant on it that he can't leave his house without it. It awful he just always has a dead glazed over look in his eyes and we don't laugh about anything together anymore he just talking in sudo commands. I liked him better when we just hung out and did heroine together.

That's what I'm probably gonna do by 2020 when Windows 7 is no longer supported
>>
Windows 8 made it look good. Just like how Vista did to 7.
>>
>>53367137
by then i'm sure you will find linux more mature for desktop usage.
>>
>>53367179
My main issue is battery life right now. It is good and even better on older machines (because Windows is crap at legacy hardware) but newer hardware Windows does it better :/

can someone post that one w10 debloating powershell thing, please
