There is likely something big coming in the next 20-30 years but nobody really knows what it will be or how much it will change things. Companies can foresee it and are preemptively trying to protect themselves.

I don't think it's going to be any advancement, though. Sure, things will progress but I think environmental collapse (through natural disaster, or otherwise), or maybe war, is going to leave industries struggling to compete for scant resources in developed nations. Of course, I hope it's replicators so we can all live happily in the post-scarcity economy.
