Trying to switch to DVORAK as of yesterday. Typing this took three minutes. Every keystroke is agony.
Is there a way to remap the position (not the letter) of universal shortcuts like copy, select all, etc? So that undo would be ctrl + the bottom left letter. If there's a reliable way to do this across the entire OS then I may put in the effort to learn dvorak.

It's not as much a problem as it used to be. Most games now read the physical scancodes (positional) instead of the characters codes, so if they say to press d to go right you just press the key where d is on QWERTY and you're good. If that fails, Autohotkey works.

I use qwerty like a normal human being.
Tried DVORAK for six months, never got past 60WPM. I average 80 on QWERTY. I'm a writer, so the tradeoff wasn't worth it.

Yeah but that's like every other country on the planet.
Plover has a fundamental problem with multiple languages. You can't use the same dictionary for different languages because that would cause syllable conflicts or whatever you want to call it. So you'd have to learn a whole fucking dictionary for every language you want to write in. Seeing as it's a ton of work to get good at one language, I can't imagine the work it'd take to learn 2+ languages.
This is why Plover will never succeed outside the US. Still a great concept though.

Dvorak is supposed te be simpler that QWERTY.
The reason of Dvorak is that QWERTY is a piece of shit that should never have existed.
They invented qwerty because if you type too fast the type-machine broke down. Then we got better type machines, and people were like "meh, I've learned qwerty, let's not change the layout." Qwerty is supposed to be difficult and a pain in the ass to use.

Around April 2014 I switched from qwerty to dvorak (no labels because I was training myself to touch type by looking at pictures of the layout) and after maybe 3 months I was back up to about 60 (was probably never that fast on qwerty due to my aspie retard method of typing without pinkies and hands floating all over everywhere). About a year after that, I was sitting like right at 100wpm, which was pretty good but I was feeling like my right hand was doing too much and muh muh balance in all things. A little after that I said fuck that shit and swapped to qgmlwy about 4-5 months ago, and now I'm hanging out around 90wpm, and eveytime I have to type on a qwerty keyboard I die on the inside a little.

Meh it's huge debate over hand alternation vs. hand rolls (I as a colemak user) still believe that alternation will win out on the efficiency for speed at least. But for comfort I def believe colemak is ergonomic long run.
i wish one of you that knew some shit would elaborate about typisting. i'm learning to program and have realized that like... being a good programmer is about 50% being a good typist. i'm using typing training software to learn legit touch typing technique with qwerty. would be interested in this stuff. i can type efficiently without looking at the keys and stuff but use backspace too much and my left hand does 75% of the work...

I used Dvorak for 6 years, and still use it on my phone, but changed to Qwerty a few months ago to play Dwarf Fortress.

Because I have no justification for doing so. QWERTY will always be the standard because it's what the general public has come to accept. I would rather know the standard than be better at typing through a different layout only to be fucked by going anywhere but my moms basement.
