What does /g/ think i should do with all these working 18650 batteries?
>>
Hit them with a hammer
>>
shove them up your ass like jelly beans
>>
>>53014198
ebike

or sell refurbished sonicare toothbrushes on ebay
>>
start vaping
>>
open them up
drink the acid
have the trip of your life
>>
>>53014198
harvest the lithium from them. It doesn't catch fire much if you're careful.
>>
I have the same question! I have about 30-40 new harvested 18650s from replacement laptop batteries. Not sure what to do with them all, but can get more for practically free if needed. Ideas ive had are: ebike/scooter, battery backup for my router, build a 4s-25p bank to use as a car battery. Anyone have better ideas? Preferably cheap.
>>
>>53014198
lube up sunshine.
>>
>>53014198
connect in a circle an see what happens
>>
>>53015744
Don't use it as a car battery, it's a terrible application. If you are building a larger bank you will want to buy a BMS off of aliexpress and also make sure to test the IR of each cell before you connect them in series and the voltage of each cell before you connect them in parallel
>>
>>53014198
Replace with superior Ni-MH technology
>>
>>53015880
>>
>>53015860
I know about to check voltage, ir, and etc, will buy some sort of bms if i do end up building a bank some sort. The reason i wanted to try building a car batt is i couldnt find it having been done before, but the problems i can see are under hood temperature, how to limit current during charging, and they will be charged to 3.5v per cell im not sure if at that voltage i can pull 6a per cell during starting.
>>
>>53015921
A better option would be to install a BMS + a buck converter and create a car battery charger (that could charge through your cigarette lighter) instead of building a car battery
>>
>>53014198
recycle ultrafires, and non japanese/korean batteries. Sell/use the rest
>>
>>53015921
>>53015973
the major problem with using 19650s for car batteries is that the main function of a car battery (to start the car) requires a LOT of amps, like 500 amps which is what lead acid can deliver. Your LiFe batteries can't supply that much current.
>>
>>53015973
I could do that, ive even already got a 250w+ converter board i could use. But just a simple jumper box would be simpler to build. I just need to charge the cells to 3.6v*4=14.4v and it should be plenty of juice for a jump start. I wish i could source cheap motors to build an ebike/go kart.
>>
>>53016037
I checked all the cells, most of them hold around 3.45 volts. They where taken out of old laptop batteries and i was surprised they held a charge at all.
>>
>>53016032
The cells i have should be able to do 5-8a bursts for 30seconds ish. And at 25p thats atleast 150a, i estimate my starter needs about 150a(2.3 duratec)
>>
>>53016037
You're going to need some type of resistor to limit the current or else you will kill your lithium battery if you hook it up to a dead car. And charging them to 3.6V is already WAAAY low on the discharge curve, most people don't like running life under 3.7V, you would be starting below that number.
>>
>>53014198
Find 1000W bulb.
Make face burning flashlight.
>>
>>53014198
LASERS
>>
>>53016088
55w headlight bulb would be good for current limiting, and most cells ive seen are rated to 2.75v discharge (at the expense of charge cycles), so i estimate at 3.6 they will have about 35% usable capacity. I dont mind killing a few cells in the name of science. These laptop batteries cost me <.25ยข each.
>>
>>53016183
Ive also tested a few and i get about 1800mah average capacity.
>>
>>53014198
Make a suspicious looking 100000mah battery bank
>>
>>53014315
Not acid. Lithium.
>>
How many of those can you take onto a plane?
>>
>>53016183
do it right: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WaterProof-DC-36V-48V-to-12V-25A-300W-STEP-DOWN-Power-Converter-Regulator-/291626428182?hash=item43e64a2716:g:0ssAAOSw7FRWVx3p
>>
>>53016255
2 if you're white
>>
>>53016258
It shall be considered, but i doubt that board would work. Id need a voltage of 13-14v (a car battery is dead at 12v) and output thats current limited. Either way, too much of an expense compared to the 100 batteries which would cost me 10-15$
>>
>>53014198
Can someone school me on 18650 batteries?

I vape and want to get a regulated mod in the 75-100w range. What do I need to be looking for in a battery?
>>
>>53016364
get sony vtc5 or your face will explode.
>>
>>53016364
Look for batteries that can supply more current, get a brand of some sort(no knockoffs), and dont over discharge them and use a good charger. If they get overly hot while charging or use, their internal resistance is too high and i wouldnt consider using them for demanding applications as they may thermal runaway. Thats about it
>>
>>53016364
stick to the big name manufacturers

for 100w, you'll want a battery that can put out above 25A

in that case a 3Ah 25A battery is : ICR18650HG2

a cheaper option is a 2.5Ah 25A battery: INR1865025R

The 25R is pretty ubiquitous
The HG2 is a little harder to come by

If your vape has two batteries in parallel you could use a INR1865030Q
>>
>>53016445
>use a good charger
Any name brand?
>>53016494
I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Sigelei 75w box, local b&m has them on sale right now. Single battery mod.

>ICR18650HG2
Google is showing me the brown LG, also in stock at local shop.

Thanks

Nitecore is what is often recommended and popular from what I've seen. Personally i use an imax b6 with cheali firmware but that is more of a hobby charger. Also just to be safe it never hurts to charge in an area away from flammables and check for excessive heat occasionally.
>>
>>53016651
do you have a good battery holder to use in conjunction with the b6? I have a 200w hobby lipo charger that I'd like to repurpose into an 18650 charger, but I need a quality holder for my 18650s that could ideally be hooked to the balance port via jst-xh (I can wire the connector but need a holder with solder points, or ideally pigtailed

>>53016255
Samefag
>>
I really have no use for a bunch of batteries, so I'd go to ebay and convert them to the universal solvent.
>>
>>53017673
Vodka?
>>
>>53017186
No, i would be interested in the same thing though, i use magnets at the moment.
>>
>>53019441
shit I'll have to do some googling
>>
>>53020537
Best i can find on ebay is 3s/4s 18650 holders. Maybe ill get 2x 3s and wire them together and to a balance port to allow me to charge 6 18650s at once with the imax b6, even cells of various charge levels should charge fine like that but may take all night because the balance circuitry is slow.

>much

>>53015744
I have the same problem. Got about 40-50 batteries lying around and 5-6 unopened battery packs which should add another 40+ batteries.
Been thinking of making a massive power bank for my phone in case we ever go camping but idk.

>>53016032
For 40 batteries a 500A burst is fine. I've managed up to 25A bursts from a used Santo I was playing around with. It was 2200mAh laptop battery with 1900mAh capacity remaining, so it was fairly used up a bit before I got it.
>>
>>53016032
You could start a car small 4 cylinder on that.
>>
Rewrap them with cool logos and words saying "50a" and "5000mAh" then sell them to unsuspecting vape idiots
>>
>>53021061
not a bad idea
>>
>>53021135
Don't forget to brand then.
>Sany
>Ponasanic
>Sonya

Retards buy into that shit like crazy, anyone remember when deats by Dr bre was a thing?
>>
>>53021042
>>53020988
Ill probably make a 3s-3p bank as a battery backup for my router. The rest ill just start building a giant 4s pack for shits and giggles to use as a jump box/car battery
>>
>>53021183
I think i wanna try to make a battery bank with it, i just gotta wait till i get a better soldering iron.
