How do I create proper symlinks with a bash script?
I'm trying to get my config files linked to my repo, but if I use relative location it doesn't work, how would I do full path symlinks to the repo's files?
The install script is in the root of the repo btw.

How do I create a graphical installer for Arch? I want to make "my own" arch distribution with a simple graphical installer along with the full install having all of my custom packages, window manager, software utilities, etc... Right out of the box. Just as a little side project to dick around with and get experience. I've got my own arch setup but I don't know how to repackage all of my configs and stuff into an installer let alone add a bootable GUI installer.

Whenever I make a new C++ project, the main function is given to me like this:
int main(int argc, char * argv[]) {
cout << "ayy lmao" << endl;
return 0;
}

Why are there two arguments "int argc" and "char * argv[]" and what do they mean?
I mean, the program works just as fine with simply "int main(){"

I guess like this. Make a regular arch distro that
>automatically logs in
>starts X11 with WM like Openbox/TWM
>starts the installer

Now just make an installer in GTK or Qt that executes appropriate commands.

>implying I know what I'm talking about
>>
>>52863345
When you use the program with command line like:
./program -big -faggot

The argc stores the number of arguments (3). It includes the program name.
The argv stores the arguments:
"program"
"-big"
"-faggot"

If you don't want to parse command line arguments int main() is a short cut.
>>
>>52863355
I've read as far as,
>install arch
>Download packages
>use archiso utilities to create arch ISO
>add packages to list

But as for editing the actual processes at startup I'll have to find a way to include an automatic install launcher. Since arch already boots straight into root I just need to start the installer right after boot.

I'm really excited to gently rice an arch distro for development purposes. My goal is clean and functional but still good looking enough to catch the eye. Used for C++ development.

Depends on how big the monitor is and how close to your eyes it is. For a 24" desktop monitor? No.

It is worth it for a big enough monitor (~27"+), also you'll need at the very VERY least a 280X to power that unless you don't mind lowered IQ settings or kicking back to 1080p for gaming.

I have this phone and the way I usually manage USB filesystems is by manually mounting them on /mnt/ with `mount`. However, this phone shows me some random shit, idk, so I installed `mtpfs` but how do I use it to transfer some shit music to my shit device?
>>
>>52863695
>>Also, is the charging process managed by the OS or is it done "in hard" by the engineers who designed the laptop?
Either the battery, the charger, or something in between is going to have some protective circuitry to stop the battery from being overcharged. This is what makes the battery stop charging once it reaches 100%, managed entirely by the hardware.
You might have some piece of software that allows you to set a different threshold for when to stop charging the battery, but aside from changing one value stored on a chip somewhere, the OS has nothing to do with managing the charging process.

Was looking through a drawer and found old controller

Seems to work fine, if not for the button layout being a bit odd. Thing is, I wanted to try and see if I could do some shit in csgo (basically, left hand controller, but still using mouse to aim) but it doesn't seem to register the bumper (or whatever they're called) movement at all. I could bind the buttons, and I know the hardware works because dark souls did allow me to use the bumpers. Then I tried a joystick and same effect, buttons work, but the stick movement is ignored

Any idea what's going wrong, and how I could fix it?
>>
>>52864105
It's hard to find anything that says "this is how it is for every battery/charger made."
But if you find a proper teardown video/article - one including an actual teardown of a battery rather than just taking it out of the device - of pretty much anything with a battery, you'll shut your friend up quickly.
https://www.youtube.com/user/bigclivedotcom This guy shows some pretty good examples of how even cheap Chinese shit has protective circuits to prevent overcharging.

Hi sqt, I'm considering on buying a 4Tb to my future NAS, to keep backups and things I won't use (like shows I've been watch) in a little time.

I don't want Seagate so I'm going with WD. I though Greens were the best to keep things, low consumption and such, but now I read Reds are "designed to" NAS. Someone can tell me what is better and why?

Reds are faster.

If I recall correctly, reds have some built-in protection against vibrations that make them more reliable in the long run when stacked up next to other drives in a tiny NAS enclosure.

But this is all stuff you can go and look up on WD's site yourself. Long story short, if you're putting it in a NAS, red > green.

Get Reds for storage/ backups.

Greens are the cheapest and less reliable HDDs, don't trust them for backups.

Look up benchmarks for your ssd. See what kind of speeds they get for different measurements, and remember that yours will be capped at 300 MB/s.
It's very rare to be able to use an ssd at max speed anyway. A better ssd will have better speeds on other measurements, but likely still under the max bandwidth of the connection.

I bought an nvidea gtx650 650 eight months ago. Back then it ran Skyrim on ultra settings. I recently copied fallout 4 onto my pc and while it can run fa4 on moderate setting, I'd like to upgrade for ultra settings. What's my best option. (Could care less if nvidea or AMD)

FO4 is poorly optimized. I've got a 3.6ghz i7 and a 980ti and it struggles to maintain 60fps at 1080p in certain areas. Unless you want an across the board upgrade to your graphics, basing an upgrade in Fallout 4 is a bad decision.

Suggest for me a GNU/Linux distro for me - a first time user.
I'm totally new, I'm tech-illiterate concerning advanced CLI stuff.
Although I hope to start here, and steadily become proficient using Linux-based OS.
Most of all, I value efficiency and fast responsiveness, because I'm using old hardware.
I don't want any bullshit. No hideously drab UI also.
Lubuntu is my current pick unless someone can persuade me there's a better first-choice.

I've used Windows for eight years, and Mac for the recent eight years.
To begin with GNU/Linux I'm going to dual-boot from OS X to Linux using rEFIND.
The GPU in particular is very shitty - NVIDIA GT120.

For example Samsung 950 Pro is really fast but is $190 for 256GB, runs at 1900MB/s read and 900MB/s write. IIRC.
