There is actually a STRONG correlation between searches for "why is my mac slow" whenever Apple releases some new equipment. They actually do this, no other companies or manufacturers have such a correlation.

If you made a computer from 2004 run Windows 7 with loads of programs it would run like shit too. Computer (and phone) parts get obsolete fast. Try running Android 6 on a Galaxy SII. The performance will fucking suck. Actually Galaxy SIII running Android 4.4 sucked too. Eh
Mac OS is much nicer for programming than Windows. It's not quite as good as Linux, but it is POSIX compliant with a lot of programmer-friendly features that Windows simply doesn't have.
The hardware is really nice as well, assuming you don't require GPU performance in your work.

They don't do it to their Macs, they do it to their iOS devices. A Macbook Pro from 2009 still runs El Capitan and works as well as the day you got it. Hell, you can roll back to Snow Leopard or install Windows/Linux instead if you want to.
iOS devices are crippled intentionally and you can't even roll back or change the OS if you wanted to. You just have to suffer with horrible lag and stutter until you either cave and buy a new iPhone (because all of your applications are bought through the App Store and you're locked in anyways) or wise up and move to a consumer-respecting phone.

Apple is dead set on supporting every device they currently sell, even when the device was woefully underpowered on release and has no chance of running the latest iOS well (iPhone 4, 4S). So they're forced to either drop support for a phone people can still actively purchase, stop selling a phone prematurely because they can't support it anymore, or release the OS on those devices (usually with significantly gimped feature set - but full API support) and hope people cut them some slack.
In my opinion, if people had the option to downgrade their iPhone this wouldn't even be an issue. Those who want the latest app support, even if it means a slower, laggier device can have it, while those who were just fine how they were can stick to the older version. But that would be "fragmentation" and Apple cares more about their image than their actual users.
I find alot (not all) of coders/web devs know very little about actual hardware. They know the logic and how to write, but not how it works all together.
