you don't need hyperthreading then. get the i5-6600k and buy an NVMe M.2 SSD with the leftover money. i would also avoid WD at the moment.

Other than what the other anon said about the 6600k, only weird thing I see is your selection of SSDs. Why two SATA drives from different brands?

I'd recommend getting an M.2 drive for your OS and most commonly used games/programs, and a 1TB SSD for everything else.
>>
>>52538087
I haven't built a computer in several several years and had to have some anons from here help with picking out parts. I ran outta 1tb space last time fairly quickly, and I use only certain games on the ssd to load faster.
>>
>>52538056
>>52538087
not the anon you're replying to but I've asked in a few threads with little to no response..

Are m.2 ssd worth buying now or wait till they become more mainstream, the speeds seem not far off an ssd running on sata 3 anyway..

my comp:>>52522268
>>
>>52538070
Evga pretty good for gtx 980 ti? Haven't compared them yet but I'm looking at them now
>>
>>52538139

If you want a 980ti, get a Galax. Don't buy EVGA. Not that EVGA is bad, but a Galax is best, shit even Gigabyte is better.
>>

samsung sm951 m.2 ssd.jpg
36 KB, 402x321
>>52538123
once you go M.2 you never go back.
it's not as much of a performance increase like sata ssd was to hdd, but you get used to the insane speeds very quickly. i have an 840 evo on my laptop and an sm951 on my desktop, the 840 seems painfully slow to me now.
the sm951 was twice as expensive and is 4 times as fast. you decide if that's worth it for you
>>
>>52538123
Well, it's roughly 4X the speed for 2X the price. In terms of basic math they're a great deal, however the question is how much you're going to notice or care about the extra speed.

>>52538119
Oh ok, the fact that you used pcpartpicker made me think these were all components you were planning on buying, not mixture of new and current.
>>
>>52538196
Actually they are all new. Just seriously out of it when it comes to tech lately.
>>
>>52522268

I can get it to as high as 4.75Ghz but it needs like 1.5v and reaches 80c under load. I kept it where it is as the temps are a lot more manageable. My CPU cooler isnt that great and to be honest there is no noticeable performance difference between 3.9 and 4.7Ghz on most games.

Its a 390, non X.
>>
>>52538196
And I'd just like to follow up by saying that I've been using a 512GB 950 Pro as my system drive for about a month now (I'm >>52537886) and it is amazing. I would highly recommend it, unless you're on a budget and your main concern is just getting enough storage space.
>>
>>52538212
Oh... so I guess I'd just have to ask again why you're getting two SSDs from two different manufacturers. Nothing wrong with it I guess, it's just weird.
>>
>>52538188
>>52538196
I know I'll eventually get one, that's why I made sure the mobo I got had the option, just price/performance seems a little off right now, ssd has been steadily dropping and has had a few upgrades since it become the norm.

I'd hate to buy the m.2 and have the price half or newer model be a lot faster.... but I guess that's always gonna happen

>>52538219
I went x, was pretty silly really, my mate got a 390, $150 cheaper, pretty much identical performance
>>
>>52538032
So anons, would this build be better with an evga hybrid 980 ti card and a m.2 drive for the os? I actually hadn't even heard of m.2 till this thread

Sounds like an AMD FX series CPU.
>>
>>52541211
Maybe because it's Skylake? Mine is 5-7 degrees above ambient with the stock cooler and a case that prioritises silence over airflow.

I got it for free.
The only purpose of having this PC is the fact it's a desktop computer (the only one I own) and because it has an LTO3 SAS streamer.
I'm using it for archiving old stuff from client pc/servers.

here's my ThinkPad x230. I'm using it with 21:9 ultrawide monitor connected to the minidock. Next week I'm gonna get a 660Ti eGPU.
>>
>>52544953
Isn't 750Ti a better choice for an EGPU? So it doesn't need a full size PSU.

I don't know. Is it?
Remember I'm using a 2560x1080 screen which needs DisplayPort connector. 750ti has HDMI.

If you buy a Titan X you are a fucking retard. You can overclock a 980ti far past a Titan X and you can even buy two of them for only a hundred two hundred more.
>>
>>52534370
Standard build, consider getting a boot SSD and overclocking the CPU if its not already. Not a big fan of AMD but if it gets the job done whatever.
>>
>>52535475
why is your GPU idling at 60c? is it overclocked to fuck, or are you playing a game?
>>

Why only a 2GB GDDR5 980ti?

A little hot since I just finished playing my personal computer audio visual video games

I've got a question? Should I upgrade to a FX-8320 or FX-8350 and how would that improve my fps on CPU intensive games like CS:GO? Now I know 8350 is just a faster 8320, but over clocking the 8320 sounds spooky so I'd rather just pay more like an idiot.

Three 980 Ti?
For that resolution? Are they the 3 slots monsters from Zotac?

Enjoy your diminishing returns though

And I think they wouldn't even fit since I only get 2 slots of spacing for each cards while those are a bit wider due to the waterblock...
>>
>>52550280
Im the one with 2 zotac 980ti's, but i've been memed to. They were advertised as two-slot cards, but in reality they are 2,5. So now the top card is blowing its fans at full speed sucking air through a pitiful half centimeter with its nose in the hot ass of the other.
Will try to rig something with a pcie extender to alleviate that, because right now i wont dare overclocking them past the factory 1253 MHz overclock.
I'll pay more attention to the actual size next time i'm upgrading, because right now it's a bit of a housefire even if it performs well and doesnt thermal throttle... Still way too hot for my taste.

>>52550452

Since I'm running three I don't get ANY room between the cards and it's been pretty hot and a bit loud so far, but I haven't felt the need to overclock yet...

I'll probably switch to water cooling once I upgrade my CPU/MBO but I don't think that's going to be very soon.

>tfw Speccy doesn't report AMD temps properly

Is there anything that actually does? That said, my thermal margin (whatever that is) now sits a good 20 degrees C cooler with this Hyper TX3 versus the piece of shit aluminum stock cooler.

The motherboard is a bit of a housefire with that nvidia chipset, other than that it still runs stronk in its 7th year of life.
