Not really. There are Spring Drives that better looking or have a higher WR and Seiko 200m divers that are cheaper with similar exterior quality. Instead of mixing all the excellent things of GS (Spring Drive/36000, Snowfrake, 600-1000m and whatnot) Seiko took every mediocre, overlooked part of the GS line and made a nothing-special meh borefest.

LUC is pretty dank. While Cartier proper offers neat inhouse movements and tourbillons, I wouldn't get it for a male.
Cartier tank francaise would be excellent for a woman, but anything but a vintage tank on someone dressed fittingly would look kind of stupid on a male.
LUC really do great watches though.

As you can see these elitist pigs only care about over compensating for their small penises by posting rolex and similar overpriced garbage. You should probably take it to a watchmaker and either simply readjust the hands or depending on the malfunction, service or replace the movement. Soviet mechanicals are extremely popular and besides maybe having to order a few parts online yourself, there would be very little hassle. Provided you want to keep it in working condition. Can you take a photo of the back of the watch, maybe for some further info?

Still no proper answer from last thread.

Currently have a Vostok with a 420 case and classic black scubadude, but it feels a little lacking.

So current consideration, either get a 710 or a 090 case. Or just buy a new one with a 059 dial with either of the cases.

New one is going to cost three times as much as a new case though.

As far as the pic goes, the bezel is on my dirskie right now.

This reminds me: A while ago I talked with one of those ancient watchmakers, one of the most respected in muh country. He told me a few things that seem pretty redpilled:
>Tourbillions are snakeoil. They would only matter in a pocketwatch or a fixed clock, since a watch could spend around 2/3 of a day on a wrist rotating pretty much randomly. Also a properly poised balance will have the same results.
>radio watches that cost more because they update more than once a day are a scam. With the accuracy of a quartz crystal you don't need to sync more than once a day or maybe even a week.
>the swiss are assholes and every large production swiss watch is build on an assembly line with workers only trained in their specific task, just like how they make smartphones, umbrellas, dragon dildos and other things you can stick in your bum
Also something that I found pretty controversial:
>a real, professional dive watch has fixed lugs since saltwater will seep into the springbars and the salt will keep eating the spring even if you rinse it

Thoughts? Also yellow terrorist Casio.

As said earlier, it's the 710059.

A bit too expensive right now, usually they should go for like ~60$ including shipping.

The prices are usually about the same. The differences are strictly cosmetic.
Different bezel font, hands, indices on dial, and a polished part on the bracelet.

>Tourbillons are bought mainly for accuracy rather than "neat it spins"
I'd get a 9F / or A-10 movement watch if I wanted accuracy, but I'd still gladly wear a 3939a. Or the new JLC gyrotourbillon.

>Swiss assembly line
How else would they maximize profits?
Independent brands don't do that, but they also care about watchmaking more than in their adverts. And use the fact that they do a selling point. Grand Seikos are made in an assembly line way. Credors are not as far as I know, but neither are Swiss grand complications.

>muh salt water
If that metalurgist guy is here, I know H1 (spyderco salt) blade steel withstands rust very well, why is that and has anyone used steel (or other metals) with such capabilities for anything but pure diving tools?
>>
>>52496913
The bracelets are different, the mako has a plain oyster style and the ray has raised polished parts on the center links.
>>
>>52497206
Spring bars would be shitty metal in terms of corrosion resistance, I'm pretty sure manufactures buy spring bars instead of making them, so any corrosion resistance marketed for the watch won't be applicable to the spring bar

>>
>>52500580
ahh thank a lot m8
>>
>>52500608
I'm always confused about quartz movements.

Usually the crystal resonates at 2^15 Hz = 32 kHz and moves the second hand once every 32k cycles. Why did Bulova make it run 8 times as fast, why did they not just make it move at a lower cycle count with the same frequency?
>>
>>52500665
>lower cycle count with the same frequency?
u wot m8?

I think the increased frequency is for accuracy. Pretty sure a regular quartz crystal at 32kHz can drive a 16 vib/s second hand like the bulova if it counts less frequency/tick.

If it's a mechanical issue sad to say you're probably SOL, repairs will cost more than the watch AND probably be unavailable. Your brother had good thoughts though if he wants glorious Soviet watch just buy Vostok or Poljot.

>>52501656
It can get leakage after decades if it hasn't been serviced as the parts are worn down and the gaskets erode

>>
>>52501942
You should set it so that when the hour hand is at an hour market the minute hand should be at 12:00, obviously. The seconds hand doesn't matter since it's sort of independent. Also that watch doesn't have a date but if it did you would want to make sure that you set it so the date changes when the time is 12:00.

They take their sweet ass time to ship off their watches and you will get no updates at all so you're going to be sitting around impatiently for a couple of weeks wondering if they forgot about you. Also they use Fedex so at least for me in the US that means I got charged customs because Fedex is a bunch of fucking jews and unlike USPS they are actually very strict about charging fees, but it was only like $20 or something.

But those issues have nothing to do with the watch itself, which is great like I said.

Why exactly are you so keen on sucking swiss sock so much? ETA does not mean quality, eta is just marketed to dumbfucks like you. Service will be more expensive because you pay mountainjew tax.

If you really like the design of the watch then fuck off and buy it faggot. You don't have many options since they shove only this movement in there. Buy it and stop wasting peoples time, it's only 400$, how fucking poor can you be?

>>
>>52503460
I wish there wasn't so much goddamn elitism over watches. If the guy wants some advice over his watch and you don't know shit about it because he's asking about entry level divers and you only care about grande complications then maybe just shut your fucking mouth instead.

ETA has some shit business practices and a base grade 2824 is going to be much less Swiss than they would have you believe and people read way too much into the claimed country of origin of watches, but it's still a perfectly fine movement on par with many other movements that it competes with. It's been in production for decades and is easily one of the most produced mechanical movements so it is very easy to service and will continue to be easy to service for decades, but on the other hand it costs more than equally good Japanese movements. I would be equally happy with a 2824, 9015, or 6R15.
>>
>>52503570
>you only care about grande complications

Yeah, nice reading comprehension. I dislike complications, because they are mostly implemented to milk customers. I like simple, cheap, yet reliable and easy to service movements.
Achieving all these factors in one movement is harder than some complication faggotry.

why are manual wind mechanicals so much more expensive compared to self winding?

automatics can be found as cheap as 50$ while hand wounds are commonly 500$.
>>
>>52503849
You can get both in near any price range if you keep looking. That being said I would expect manual wind to be a little less preferred in your 'everyday people' compared to 'watch people.' And many 'watch people' are not buying brand new 50 dollar watches, at least not for long.

what are some good entry manual winds? like at three hundred bucks?

winding a watch is just appealing to me than a rotor like a houseplant you have to water. also you can get the max power reserve in seconds instead of wearing it the whole day
>>
>>52503849
Economy of scale, they're going to be marketed as 'muh heritage / prestige' models. There's really not much point on the budget end since there are great movements that allow hand winding as an option.

I think Alpha / Seagull have a few hand wind chronos cheapish.

The date is such an unimportant complication that you'd check a few times a week at most, and it really visually dominates it.

Good to hear. Only asking because I'm very new to watches in general. First one I bought was a $60 g-shock mainly because I wanted something durable to wear for my job that wouldn't shatter into pieces if I accidentally smashed it against something.

Anyone have other recommendations for a nice EDC mechanical watch that I guess isn't as dressy as the bambino and around the same price range? I guess I'm looking for having just 3 watches. G-shock for work/exercise, Bambino for certain events/interviews/outings, and something nice yet not a dress watch to wear casually.

Depends. The Vostok Komandirskies are cheaper than the Amphibians. Most Parnis mechanicals are cheaper than their automatics though of course both are inexpensive. I think the economy of scale is correct, and in addition the most common mechanical movements with decoration like the 6497 are indeed quite expensive to manufacture. In addition theres less demand for Miyota mechanicals, which is a shame. I'd love sub 300 Miyota powered mechanicals
>>
Where do watch websites/blogs get the watches they review? Do they buy them all?
>>
>>52506315
>>52506297

No this is not the case; for sure certain watches had straps or bracelets. Some still have bracelets but they're rare.

The reason there's no straps is one of socialist economy especially from the late 80S. Due to the mixture of shortages mixed with chaotic market reforms, people would wear the heck out of what they had until it was worn out. If they could afford a replacement which was more prestigious, of higher quality, or Western (ironically, many prestigious Western items like jeans were actually less durable or even lower quality than local Ersatz production) then they would do so immediately. As most of these watches are at least 30 years old it's no surprise there's no straps as the original ones were worn into oblivion or replaced long ago. Remember, we have a cornucopia of consumer goods, for many people in socialist countries they'd been saving a whilw for a watch or waiting and may not see another.
>>
>>52508023
Same place the car websites get their cars and the computer parts sites get their parts.
>>
>>52508023
No. The reason most blogs do see through shilling is because the watches are provided by dealers. For example many of the Hanharts and Squales reviewed online are provided by the English dealer Page And Cooper.

Now many of these watches are nice but there's some blatantly obvious contradiction in interests. Basically watch blogs exist to sell watches for their sponsors and not to take care of the customer. The opposite can be said of /g/ because anything that isn't vouched for in quality will get jumped, and the infinite Chinese-made kickstsrter campaigns are not marketed but looked on with disdain
>>
>>52504389

Thoughts on IWC's new Timezoner Chronograph? I love the feature of easily changing the time zone with the bezel, but i hate how chaotic it looks. But it's chaotic because of an understandable reason, if they were to remove the names from the bezel the watch would lose some functionality.

If I wanted a cluttered chrono with a 7750 I'd buy a Sinn

Yeah probably. Pretty hyped about my first mechanical chronograph probably my last until I can afford to drop more than a grand on a watch though.

Careful when you turn your wrist to check the time as you may just accidentally whack yourself in the face.

A GMT with 300m wr styled after a vintage Rolex? I'd love one myself, if you have the money that'd be a neat addition to your collection anon.

Obsolete.

they both have a case that looks like ass so it's not like it matters.

Grow up.

I lik the case.

It's a proper divewatch case, with the crown where it serves the best function, not where the coolest new chronographs have it.

Also, this was the norm for divewatch was since ever you underage cunt.

I see a lot of shit opinions in these threads but you win hands down

Do no buy

The dial looks cheaper than the pics

The movement is bad and the stem breaks easily

The watch is really really thick, much more so than the pics. Probably 17 or 18mm quite literally thicker than most chronos

New to all this: How would you rate Casio Watches? Im interested in one.

They're good if you just want a watch that works and you don't care what it looks like. Cheap and ugly but they do what they're supposed to do and they're rock solid.

They make great detonators, too.
