The R500 likely has a high output impedance value on the headphone out. They are excellent for speakers but shitty as a dedicated headphone amplifier.

SR850 has a flatter response, HD668B has more bass. The SR850 is also more comfortable so another reason to get that in my opinion. Both headphones are prone to being a bit bright.

>>52478586
Not much niggamusic, but as I said they got heavy use for years. To test the song just now, I plugged it into an O2 amp at high volumes I wouldn't want to listen to for more than ten minutes.

If anything else, the M50 has a reputation for pretty sturdy build quality, so it's likely that either something got into your driver or you just got a lemon that needs replacement.

Vintage receivers are a meme, they don't sound inferior to present stuff but they don't sound any better.

Two amplifiers sound the same if the FR, noise, distortion and output impedance are at levels that exceeds the threshold of human hearing.

K7xx is a specific headphone, a rebranding of the K702 Anniversary / K712 that boosted the bass a little over the regular versions. It's on Massdrop right now.

People used to refer to the AKG K7 series (K701, K702) as K7xx before the actual K7xx came out, so there's the confusion. The K701/702/Q701 have very tight bass with good extension, but they should probably not be your first choice if you're the type that likes a lot of body and impact in your bass.

I've got a chance to get a vintage Yamaha CA410 for $70. Perfect working order. Right now I have an o2+odac (not the new Rev B).

Debating if it's worth buying. I could just use the odac part of the o2+odac by running RCA out from it to the input on the 410, then run my phones through the 6.35 jack on the front and speakers with wire from the back.

I've heard great things about the sound signature from the CA410, and the additional adjustments would be nice; but, the o2+odac is so often considered best / near best in its price range. Input?

>Yeah, as I said the bass on the K7s is fine, but obviously someone looking for bass impact should consider other headphones first.
It really depends on the ear sensitivity of a person imo. According to most graphs, it doesn't look like the K702 has much bass, but like >>52479261 siad I feel that the bass on my K702 is punchy and has a lot of impact most of the times. What really amazes me every time is how I feel the impact not just from, let's say, the drums, but also from the chords and other instruments. When paired with a good recording, the K702 can make even the most subtle details come to light, even in the bass region.

LG Quadbeat 2/Quadbeat 3 by AKG
Zero Audio Tenore
Ostry KC06
Mee Audio A151

A very small sampling of the IEMs to try and discover, since there is like no barrier to entry in the IEM market.

>>52480245
>compare to other IEMs
The cheap IEM in general is bass heavy, and what makes it not suck is not having sharp peaks and dips besides the canal resonance.
Of course, because these are IEMs, even screwy FR doesn't matter as much with a parametric EQ. Although, the EQ interface may not be as friendly as you like, and battery life is always a concern.

Microphonics is cable noise, vibrations transited along the stiff cable. If you can loop the cable over the ear, it is usually greatly suppressed, hence why there are so many over the ear in-ears.

>>52480650
>ok, and what do you suggest from these iems?
I haven't tried out those IEMs. I got sick of the try/buy/sell IEM cycle.

>also, what about that site?
Plenty of /hpg/ posters froth at the mouth at the thought of subjective reviews. This is because most listeners don't know what they are hearing, and then write a review about their ignorance.

As for Joker's reviews? He's certainly better than the rabble at reviewing. Considering that he also has listened to many hundreds more IEMs than he has actually bothered to review, he might have something worth saying.
He has his preference (mild V-shape), and tries to consider things outside of it. Certainly more than what I'm willing to do. You can just ask him directly.

The answer is always Sennheiser.

I've got both the QuadBeat 3 and the 2nd gen A151. The QuadBeat 3 blows it out of the water. The A151 is muffled yet bright at the same time. I really don't enjoy them, but the ergonomics are some of the best.

>This is because most listeners don't know what they are hearing, and then write a review about their ignorance.
Not just that but unless blinded or double blinded, listening to audio gear is fundamentally biased. So many other factors than the sound itself affect what we hear and a good listener is not free of this bias.

I don't really trust my own ears much. I have to have a reference pair or two somewhere right next to me to switch to in order to make subjective impressions which hold any water. Even then I'd rather not read or talk about sound subjectively in reviews aside from a very simple overall impression. Subjective reviews are useful for things that are easily evaluated by wearing the headphone like comfort and build quality.

I don't want to touch the psychology mess that is cognitive bias, crowd mentality, and cross-modality.
I don't like to bring it up as it sounds like an uninteresting thought extinguisher, even if the psychology is an interesting research subject in itself. Yes, it is very much a real phenomenon, something that must be controlled in any scientific experiment, and an aspect of daily life, but I would like to argue that the audio sensation alone does matter in casual sighted listening. Headphone manufacturers might like to prove me wrong.

Single blind, double blind, or triple blind, it doesn't matter if the subject can't discriminate the sensory input as different in the first place.

Hey /hpg/ I need some advice for some headphones under $40. I do really enjoy rumbly bass but I do want clarity in what I'm listening to. As for fit, I prefer over and on ear, no in ear.
I've been using some Sony MDR-ZX100 headphones for the past 3 years and they still work fine, I just want some sort of upgrade. I've used the HD 201 headphones and they're clear but lack the bass that I'm looking for.
What do you guys suggest?

Not the guy you're replying to, but no, what you said is wrong. There's nothing more to EQ in the K702 than in the HD598 or HD600 or above. If you enjoy the sound of your headphones out of the box, you're fine. Aaaand.... K702 aren't "less neutral" thna the headphones I mentioned.

I asked this before but I didn't get much help...
Are the SonyMDR-ZX700 any good? Ive read a few reviews saying they are "meh" and shit like that, however, they are rated over its original price ($150) but I found them pretty cheap ($20 + shipping)
Are they good or could I get something better for the same price? Has anyone have any experience with them?
I gotta say I'm an audio pleb whom current headphones are the Apple Earpods.
