Today Seiko announced another new line of divers, "Transocean"
https://www.seiko-watch.co.jp/news/pressrelease/posts/493/20160113

They're supposed to be dressy divers ("designed to fit under a shirt cuff"), MSRP around $1000 in USD, 6R15 movement with ceramic bezel, diashield coated case, AR coated sapphire crystal, and diver's extension. 45mm diameter (fuck). Hopefully those end up in the US too because they look pretty neat aside from being huge.
>>
>>52396833
>huge crown at 4
why

>>52389867
I have a blue one on bracelet. The bracelet is definitely worth getting. Its quality is pretty good. You would spend a lot for a good aftermarket bracelet and you wouldn't even get the fitting end links.
The blue dial looks great - almost black in certain lights, and a nice sunburst deep blue in others.
I haven't seen the black one so I can't say how good it is.
>>
>>52396833
>45mm diameter
Fuck. You'd think the moonlanders would make a smaller watch for their tiny wrists.
>>
>>52396833

Dem lugs though. No thanks.

I think those are one of the best parts, but then again I love all the edgy-case Seikos. I may well end up buying one but I just wish they had made it more like 40-42mm especially since they claim it's supposed to be "dressy".
>>
>>52396833
Another 'collaboration' that has jack shit to do with their partner. I swear these were leaked ages ago, 2big4me
>>
>>52396980
Well only 2 of the references are collaborations, the other 3 are regular production but yeah those special edition ones are about as stupid as every other special edition watch. Unfortunately I guess 2016 is not going to be the year watches return to reasonable sizes, I wonder how long this dumb trend will last.
>>
>>52396956

I like the lugs and bracelet, it's the narrow centre part I meant meaning you are stuck with the stock bracelet unless you can adapt something else.

These are cool but holy shit way too big. If they were 40mm or even 42 I would be all over one but no matter how dressy the styling and how thin they are at that size they're going to look stupid. You'd think Seiko would be making watches appropriately sized for bitch wristed manlet cheese nips, not these gargantuan monstrosities.

>>52399159

The Armida uses a Miyota 6S50 quartz movement. The Alpha uses the ST-19 or a derivative of it, which is made using the same tooling as the old Venus 175 movement.

I have a Seagull 1963 with the ST-19 in it, and it has been great for me.

Same for any mechanical watch though. The ST-19 is identical to the old Swiss chrono movement so watchmakers shouldn't have issues.

>>
>>52399554
It is pretty reasonable to expect a cheap old-ass chrono design manufactured in china to break sooner than most jap or swiss mechanicals (heck, maybe even ruskies, they aren't exactly known for being unreliable)

alpha also isn't known for being too reliable, I've heard several accounts of problems with the screw down pushers

>>
>>52399645

My 1963 isn't the same ones you get on sites like longislandwatch it was from the WUS F72 thread, but it's very similar. The overall quality of the project and how satisfied people were leads me to believe that other companies with the ST-19 don't have the same QC as these people did.

I'd say go for white since you've got a black one. Which black chronograph have you?

got this guy for Christmas (lost camera sd card sorry for stock photo)

currently my favorite watch 24hr/3date meme aside

slightly domed crystal, looks fucking sharp and currently taken a better beating than my SNK, seems like their mineral crystal is harder than seikos hardex or whatever its called.

kinda do like quartz for muh accuracy, only 2 seconds off half way through the month so far (and its got semi-hacking)

next step is a chrono,

should i go for one of those kinetic seikos?
I feel like its /smarter/ to get a quartz chrono than a mechnical, but i dunno.

maybe a russian mech chrono?

Yesterday i went for my physical at my doctor's office while wearing my beloved olive Nato'ed Seiko 5. I saw him take a few quick admiring glances at it but knowing that he wears a Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller didn't think much of it as how could he understand the history behind my majestic timepiece if he's wearing an overpriced piece of metal, right?

Imagine my surprise when he took my pulse and proclaimed that my heart was beating as accurately as the "movement of a renowned Seiko 5"!!! My mouth dropped open and all I could do is stare. He then smiled wryly at me and opened his lab coat which contained an immaculate black Seiko 5 on black Nato in his inside pocket. He looked at me and said "the Rolex is just for appearances as my patients think it means prestige and trust. But as I strive for excellence I know I can appreciate the true value of the fine craftmanship and timetelling expertise achieved by this masterpiece so thus I keep this close to me heart as a reminder of what I should strive for and wear it with pride and respect while the Rolex is taken off immediately after work".

He winked at me and wished me a "long and healthy life" all the while smirking.

Best doctor ever!

I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark, lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room, giggling like a like girl as you once again type your mfw waiting for watch reply up and fill in the captcha. Or maybe you don't even fill in the captcha. Maybe you're such a disgusting NEET that you actually paid for a 4chan pass, so you just choose the picture. Oh, and we all know the picture. The "epic" happy Akari, isn't it? I imagine you little shit laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos on the floor, but it's ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh, that's right. Did I fail to mention? You live with your mother. You are a fat fucking fuckup, she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all goddamn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on 4chan posting about waiting for his watch. Just imagine this. She had you, and then she thought you were gonna be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand, and then you became a NEET. A pathetic Akari posting NEET. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even try to talk with you because all you say is ">mfw waiting for my new watch in the mail" You've become a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old post that he's done a million times now. And that's all you'll ever be.

Rolex, or a vintage watch made of full gold, thats an heirloom piece. Don't focus on getting one right now, thats for alter in life. Now you can get a nice watch of the current decade. might be timeless, might be worth something in the future, or worthless. But it doesn't matter, its just what use you can get from it RIGHT NOW, you only live once anon.

But in keeping to that type of watch Seiko Sarb033 is in your case a must have since very tissot is forgettable or vintage rip off.

About 500-650€ I'm still a student (IT/ business) I'd just like something wich transmit some kind of wealth/class for job clientele in a year and to give a decent imprecion. Once I have more money from my job I could always go more expensive and dump this watch on my son as I sed.

Of I'm looking for saphire glass, automatic preferred Swiss made watches, stainless steel case etc etc

Yes, thank you for the contribution of an example of a hideous watch coupled with the lame bracelet for maximum 'look at me' points. That being said Zodiac has made some interesting watches, especially vintage ones. Worth looking into for those who haven't, including gp-movement based high beat calibers.

Assuming you don't neccerily want a Swiss made, Seiko SDGM series (SDGM003) for example are within the price range. Swiss-wise, i think some Hamilton chronographs could fit the pricerange or some of their more simple models.

And as a surprise, look up Strela chrono.

>preferred Swiss made watches
Well that cuts out 90% of "swiss" brands out there.

At your budget, best you can hope for is something pretending to be swiss, or is swiss only by virtue of extremely lax labeling laws. Be prepared for a vast % of your watch to be made in china, germany, or china then germany, but have "swiss" on the dial.
If this charade is okay with you then go buy whatever.

You don't get real swiss made at that price.

desu manufacturing a rolex costs $220 and it then costs $22k. That's 100x profit for the rolex compared to 22 for the "dogshit". Basically your argument is complete shit. Yet it's spouted here every time someone posts a quartz. You're all paying for the brand. The one's buying "dogshit" just get better value for their money compared to at least most rolexes and some other luxury brands.

I know you're exaggerating, but if you're going to claim that rolex makes a larger % profit than a company selling $10 watches for over $200, you're going to have to provide proof.

That's of course not to say rolexes aren't overpriced. The claim that they make a larger % profit is dubious though.

Except dogshit has no value.
Buying a dogshit watch is a waste of your precious pennies that you should be using for groceries or whatever it is that sustains your peasant life.

If you're not going to buy something decent, then stick with your smartphone as they have made every quartz watch except the gshock variants completely and utterly pointless.

Plain quartz has no future.

I won't exactly argue with that, Manufacturing a Rolex costs anywhere from 850 to 1500$ in labor, materials and also the COSC certifaction (ye ye). Dealerships are a different mountain kikery.

And assuming you ignore the "muh heritage, muh branding", you get a watch that doesn't look like completely shit, is 100% made in Switzerland, and is bought to for the "is that a Rolex?" factor. It retains value and can be resold if needed.

Now let's take two other comparisons, a Seiko diver and those two dogshit chronographs.

The Seiko is well priced for what it offers, is solidly built and is a functional watch. It will retain it's own value as long as it's kept in proper order and will increase as time passes by.

The dogshit chrongraphs are priced for much more then they are worth, have almost no resale value, and look ugly as shit.
>>
>>52406258
I don't think rolexes claim to be 100% swiss, but they are certainly more swiss than anything swatch.

And they tightly control dealer pricing
>>
>>52406258
>>52406079
all this talk of "value"

it's a meaningless proposition.
no such thing as objective value in this case
it's not some inherent quality

rolex are valuable compared to a simple casio because more people impute value on the former more than the latter

rolex is more valuable than say, grand seiko
is grand seiko a better made/finished/adjusted/more accurate timepiece?
probably

but they're not valuable

steel sports mens rolex models are valuable

other stuff?

>I don't think rolexes claim to be 100% swiss, but they are certainly more swiss than anything swatch.
At last count they are pretty much as in-house as top end seiko at the moment.
I say pretty much because I'm unsure where they get their olis, jewles and lume compound (I think they get a special batch of lume made, dunno how it differs from standard superluminova though).
They (relatively recently) started producing their own shock protection system, and just before that their own mainsprings.
Every other swiss brand ("swiss" or otherwise) buy their springs from one company, and they all buy their shock systems from another, and jewels from another and their sapphire crystals from another specialist.

Seiko make all this shit themselves because they own all those fabricators.

I think at this point rolex may be the only swiss maker to do it all themselves or are as close to it as one swiss maker that isn't a mass conglomerate like Swatch can hope to achieve, whilst having it all made in Switzerland.
Even patek get some cases (steel nautilus cases) made for them by a third party.

Note that this does not include Tudor, which of course use ETA movements and the whole watches are purported to be completely fabricated by a third party and only sent to rolex for the final finishes and QC.
>>
>>52406563
>(I think they get a special batch of lume made, dunno how it differs from standard superluminova though).
By this I don't mean they make it themselves, but rather they order a custom batch from RC tritec or whomever it is that makes luminova in switzerland (another seiko company and product).

Al's Diner hasn't changed a bit since the 1970s. It still has the same black and white squares of tile. The booths still have the same red faux-leather covering. The same lamps still hang over every booth. And the menu hasn't changed either: waffles and bacon and eggs for breakfast, burgers and fries and shakes for dinner
Annie and Jack have changed too. Jack's glasses appeared sometime in the early 90's and have only gotten thicker and thicker since. The once-tall 6-foot-1 man is now hunched and hobbled, requiring a cane to get aroundHer once creamy skin is now sunspotted and wrinkled, and her hands shake whenever she lifts her spoon into the bowl.
Annie and Jack entered the diner and took their usual seats at the usual booth at the usual time. Al had their meals all ready to go, and shuffled over with Annie's bowl first; there were fresh strawberries for her today. The waitress no longer came in for the mornings: not enough business. But Al could handle the cooking and the serving; it would just take a little longer. He placed the bowl in front of her, and she responded with a soft, frail, "Thank you, Al." He returned to the counter for Jack's eggs, and on his way back, he noticed something peculiar: they were holding hands. After the usual amount of time, the old couple left their booth and waved goodbye to Al as he was chopping tomatoes. Right on schedule.

As he cleared the booth, he noticed something else unusual: Annie hadn't eaten her oatmeal. Or even the strawberries.
The bell hanging over the door tinkled at 8 AM, right on schedule. Al shuffled out of the backroom, remembering to check with Annie about her breakfast. But today was also different: Jack was alone.
There were tears in his eyes as he told Al he'd still like to order a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of apple juice for her.

Arrowheads are gross.

Actually that whole dial is pretty gross.
>>
>>52406703
Afraid so.
Every swatch group brand, with the possible and likely exceptions of Bregeut and GO (although since it's fucking swatch, nothing's truly a sure thing), are suspect.

Chinese or Thai made parts, at "swiss made" prices.

Say what you will about rolex, but after a long hard look they appear to be one of the few brands that are what they say they are: made in switzerland.

If you want Swiss, it's Rolex and up (up being JLC, AP, PP, VC).

If you want some miss mash of stuff that has parts made in some eta factory in china or thailand, but sold to you as if it were made in europe at swiss wages, then it's Omega and down.

This is why I like Seiko, and particularly GS.
They are what they say they are and that's fucking made in Japan.

Damasko have a few models that are truly german made.
And that's great. Puts them above Sinn and everything below that claims to be "German made".

>>52407025
Never forget Nomos.

It's hilariously ironic that they (compared to most "german" makes) have a german made movement but swiss made cases.
Total reverse of the usual deal where the swiss get their steel cases machined in germany and ther germans use swiss movements.

Most steel parts will be made in germany, the cheaper "swiss brands" will use the two step process of using a cheaper german casemaker that gets the cases mostly made in china, has them sent to germany for more finishing, and then sent to their swiss client in switzerland for assembly (boxes made in china or SE asia).
>swiss made

Even cheaper companies will skip germany entirely and go the full chinese route sans swiss assembly.

It's very easy to have something labelled as "swiss made".
It all comes down to trust these days.
I do no trust the Swatch group.
I do not trust LVMH (motherfuckers ruin everything they get their smiley fucking hands on, watches or anything else they buy).
I do not trust Richemont.

Now the list grows thin.
Movado Group?
kek
Oris?
Okay now they've started making their own movements after an age. I respect the attempt, but am unsure about their production.

Freddy Con?
Maurice?

Don't really care. Though I respect FredCon more than ML for the reason that the name "Maurice Lacroix" was just a baseless fabrication designed to sound refined and "swiss like". Like Patek Phillipe, or any other real brand whose name has some meaning.

Still, at least these guys are independent.4

Eterna?
Just bought buy some chink group, use swatch parts.
Nope.

List really grows thin, and the more I look the more I come to the conclusion that if I want a Swiss watch, it's Rolex and above.
Just can't trust anything else.

I don't know if it is worth the money and if I will be content with it. Anyone got some pictures of the side (glass dome) and while wearing it?

I rove my 24hr aviator.
Served me well over the past 7 years or so but now requires a servicing and I'm kinda lost about that. I don't trust any local watchmakers to fix this russian.

24hrs was great for me when I was a student since I was up at all fucking hours, and the function really gives you the proper visual indication of how much time you have left in the day.

I wish more companies would come out with 24hour variants.

The fortis auto model that my aviator was likely based is the only one that I can think of that looks nice.

Glycine specialises in it, but they look like messy shit unfortunately.

I urge all you fucks to get a hold of a 24hr watch and wear it for a month and see how you like it
you will
Bleh.
I like my aviator (and that fortis) because they can be read in a glance with such ease, day or night.

The glycine airman has too much going on.
To be fair they can track a second timeone in 24hr time, but at the expense of quick legibility.

My trusty Seiko 5 7009A bit the dust today... after 14 years now I'm converting the movement into a keychain R.I.P
>>
>>52407445
Any other preferences?

I'd say get a dressy, least expensive citizen eco drive you can find. Wear it and forget about it until they day when you may consider spending more on something else.

>>
>>52407360

If you're in Europe, contact Julian of poljot24.de - sent off a few watches for services and repair and they have been great.

>>52408237

I don't know if the project is still ongoing, but try contacting hked on the watchuseek forums as that's where I got mine. Alternatively they are found here from another production run:

Updated Orient Mako, is it goat dive watch?
>sapphire
>200m
>inhouse movement, hacking seconds
>decent lume
>classical, great all around styling
>decent bracelet
>200 polish dollars
Literally, what is better specs wise even?
>>
>>52408496
When they put in a new ray dial or make a mako usa with the new movement, I'll get one. I don't know why but I can't stand Arabic numerals on any watch except a field style watch
>>
>>52407701
>citizen eco drive
That was my thought, too. My every day watch is a citizen eco drive. Fucking years old, lived through Dresden 1945, runs still it's first battery and probably will outlast me.
What do you think about an Orient or a Bossart? I mean, cheaper is better, but i am willing to pay for a higher quality watch.
>>
>>52408549
That and I don't much like day/date complications, I prefer date only or no date
>>
>>52408496
>200m
sort of.
>>
>>52408571
Honestly, they should make one with no date or day, that version would be even better (but less useful for the average joes)
>>
>>52408574
Are orients not up to their ratings or are you saying 200m isn't sufficient for a diver.

They always struck me as desk divers, the mako series anyway.

what do most people do?
>save up the thousand dollars and get the
watch they desire?
or
>slowly upgrade to the watch they desire?

my goal is to get a seamaster 300 if possible a vintage, but I really fond of the new bezel
>>
>>52408601
I'm saying outside of M-Force Orient doesn't actually make things that are 200m divers that go thru actual 200m divers testing like ISO. The 200m on mako is just a static pressure test rating.

Don't get me wrong, fully sufficient for the normal needs of everyday water resistance.

Just buy a Rolex
>>
>>52408612
I feel like you might have a hard time trying to sell and trade up mid tier watches without adding obscene amounts.

You might as well wait until you can at least afford a used SPEEDMASTER PROFESSIONAL MAN ON THE FUCKIN MOON, BEST BANG PER BUCK LUXURY WATCH, and start trading and selling from there.

Archie might be full of shit about most things, but he isn't entirely wrong about the moonwatch, you can find a decent example for a fairly accessible price, and possibly even get a profit for it after you enjoy it for a bit.
>>
>>52408496
It's too expensive.
>>
>>52408705
maybe I didn't search hard enough, but may you kindly show me a rolex watch that has similar bezel?

Are you looking for a coin-edge bezel?
>>
>>52408612
>slowly upgrade
I wouldn't count on being able to trade or sell your watches for as much or more than you bought for them, making upgrading expensive.

There are vintage pieces of great interest for a few hundred that are worth wearing if you can't afford the thousands of dollars watch you want
>>
>>52408496
The new mako pictured is mineral glass, not sapphire.

I would suggest a replica Tudor Black Bay for under $300. Fuckwhat /g/ says, nobody outside the watch world knows these brands and won't know it's a rep. Save your money for a proper Rolex and always buy used.

I would suggest you go for something that appeals to you. Favre Leuba, Universal Geneve, Zodiac, Seiko all have some interesting vintage pieces you can start exploring.

They're only water resistant to 200m, they're not full ISO certified 200m divers which is a rating that comes with a lot of additional requirements for durability and legibility. It's not really probably not a big deal but it is worth noting. Notice how the Mako only says "Water Resist 200m" while the SKX007 for example says "Diver's 200m".

The Tudor is a perfect 1:1 rep using the same movement as the original. It's no secret that the Swiss have their parts made in China.
>>
>>52409040

Go on replica watch forum to see their recommended sellers and online stores. Their forum also has bargains on used reps.
>>
>>52409225
the eta 2824's you get in fake watches are horrible, made with spare parts and replica parts etc. - never mind that the tudor will be modified and chronometer specced. You're actually better off getting an asian movement.

There are no perfect fakes. My point was that the black bay isn't as appropriate to someone looking for a seamaster as a seamaster even if it's more accurate.

Yes, true that. I just read the wus forum quickly, what a bummer. But still, would easily pick this over any seiko diver due to it being better looking and never will go below 5m depth anyway...
>>
>>52409445
You may be able to get an Orient around that, I did.

Keep in mind sapphire comes in many qualities, the 10k watch is going to have a significantly better sapphire crystal than a 300 dollar one (producing them without or reduced microfissures and more regularity costs $$)

So while sapphire is great, honestly I don't consider cheap cheap sapphire to be much better than something like hardlex
>>
>>52409122
Its mostly about bracelet strength, lume on seconds hand and a percentage of water resistance over 200m and following iso numbering.

NONONONO DO NOT BUY FROM THAT SITE. Shit like perfectwatches.cn and that site are scams. Always scams. If you want a good site, go to intime.co, torobravo2015.com, or puretime.watch. For the rep world, go to replica-watch.info.Only go there for rep sites and reviews
>>
>>52409904
took note, but I'm not really sure how I feel about buying replicas...
>>
>>52409920
Reps are a hit and miss situation. You gotta do your research before you buy. Find the specific model name of your watch, and search that up on the forum. Then, just look at what everyone else buys, and get what the majority gets. Theres different makers for reps. Ie the submariner has JF watches, NOOB factory, etc. Noob will always make the best sub. Just do a shit ton of research before you buy. If youd like, i can find the best replica watch for your taste. Give me the name and a pic and ill give you a result.

Who makes the best sub?
