Name of that keyboard?
>>
>>52387390
It's in the filename; GH60, It's a pretty badass board. Completely programmable keybaord, able to flash the firmware, able to use almost any layout you can imagine (within a 60% form factor). I don't own one of the originals, but I've got two FC60's from one of the group buys last year, the things a beast.

Is it really worth it?

It would cost $67 for my CM Quick Fire Rapid.

I could get custom keycaps at wasdkeyboards.com for $47. They are ABS, though.

Somebody may have made an infinite layer mod, but the default is 9 layers, but you can do anything your mind can think of with them. You can program a key to change to another key after holding it for X seconds (SpaceFN's a great example of this), you can make quick layer swap button combos, etc. It's just a ridiculously good board for a ridiculously low price. Oh, and it has a switch-top removal plate, so you don't need to desolder your switches to swap them out or mod them, which is a huge plus for when you want to try out new switches.

>>52387951
You can't really get 'custom keycaps' in the same sense. Yeah, you can get some different coloured caps and put pictures on them, but the wasd OEM caps are terrible. You might as well order some Rosewill caps for $12 if you're going to go that route.

Whether it's really worth it is hard to say. I put money aside to buy these since the last drop. It's something I waited out to see if I really wanted them, and I've decided to go for it. The caps are, without a doubt, overpriced and the creator is pulling some bullshit with the way he grouped them (almost everybody's forced to buy at least 3 different sets), but that doesn't matter much to me since I grabbed every set and doubles of some. They're a joy to type on and they look great, too.
If you're unsure, though, try buying a set of DSA from SP. They're who make these caps, and you can get a much cheaper set of blanks from them, though, I'm not sure if they have all the sizes included in this drop.
>>
>>52387951
These are far far far better than WASD. Get anything besides WASD keycaps.
>>

What's a good place to get Rosewill keycaps? Amazon?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K8CDQLA/ref=psd_mlt_bc_B00K8CDQLA
>>
>>52388802
All things considered, Newegg would probably be your best bet. IIRC, Newegg is the manufacturer of Rosewill, so I think they have the best prices. I haven't bought a set in a while, but they're decent caps if you need some last-minute. I had a pair break in the mail and couldn't wait on the replacement, ordered a cheap set from Newegg and had them at my door in less than 2 days.
>>
>>52388342
I can't remember if the novatouch has a curved or straight plate, but they might be a pain if it's a curved/stepped plate, otherwise they'll be fine.
If you're uncertain, see if you can get a cheap set of DSA caps mailed to you and give it a shot. I haven't heard of any complaints regarding DSA profile height from people who have used them, but they're more-or-less made so that you can't get below them on a standard cherry setup.

Its got a straight plate, but I'm thinking of just cancelling, because one of the main factors of my descision to purchase was the resell/trade value, which I now see will be almost nothing

A little, but my if you flip a dip switch CAPS turns into a FN key and it makes hitting the function keys no big deal.

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/0/-/= become F1/F2/F3/etc
>>
>>52389492
When i say they become the function keys, I mean when you're holding FN they're function keys, flipping the dipswitch only changes caps to FN.
>>
>>52389523
fair enough if it works for you, I went to a tkl and was surprised how much I missed the numpad, particularly the enter key I used to tap a lot with my mouse thumb, I'm used to it now and love my ducky but I couldn't lose any more keys.
>>
>>52389121
There's a benefit to buying caps like this (if you have the money to spare). You're able to have free caps every month. I could sell my set in May and make all of my money back, probably even make some cash. I normally buy a new set only a few times a year, but I've been buying them more frequently lately because of the resell/trade market. I can't remember how many people went in on the round 3 granite set, but it was over 5000 iirc, and the set still costs at least as much as it did initially.
This is mainly because people don't want to spend money on something they won't receive for months, so they figure they'll spend a few more bucks and buy it once it's been delivered.
I get what you're saying, you probably won't be able to make a quick profit off of these, but they definitely retain their value better than most keycaps. If Mat3o is being honest about not producing any more after this set, you'll certainly be able to sell them for the cost of purchase, at the bare minimum.

Stuff like this.

Everything you need for this is quite cheap (heat shrink and paracord). I'll have to order some on the weekend.

Having a soldering iron helps since chances are that you'll be taking your cable apart and putting it back together again so you can get the paracord over it.
>>
>>52389811
I use space for space, but when I hold it down, it works as a function key. So if I need to use the arrow cluster quickly, I just use 'space' + I/J/K/L, if I need to change layers, I just do 'space' + (whatever layer I need to switch to, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9). If I want to be quick about it and just go up a layer, it's 'space' + 'ctrl' + 'i' or 'k' for down.
There's a bunch more on my SpaceFN layer, but I also have a separate function key with entirely different functions, though SpaceFN's easily one of the best function commands I've found. I'm amazed more people don't use it
>>
>>52391088
Which 60% do you have?
>>
>>52389573
>and was surprised how much I missed the numpad, particularly the enter key I used to tap a lot with my mouse thumb
I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses that. I didn't do it often, but when I used to lean back and only use the mouse, it was nice to roll my hand over to hit 'enter' rather than having to move my hands to the keyboard. It's funny how these smaller boards work both ways like that. If you're working in a VI environment, you don't want to move your hands to the mouse, and when you're doing leisurely tasks, you don't want to touch the keyboard.
I picked up the MX Master recently to see if it was something I would like. I wanted to program the thumb-rest to 'enter', but ended up returning the mouse. I sort of want to buy it now that it's gone down in price, but just spent more than I should have on keycaps.
>>
Should I buy the granite memecaps?
>>
>>52390767
Christ, I can't stand seeing cables like yours. Either learn the final step in coiling a cable or don't coil it at all, that looks like utter crap. You're seriously like 20 seconds from having a tight, correctly wound coil, but you didn't finish it. Why the hell do people do that?

>>52391088

I use SpaceFN + N, but I rarely want to do that. I don't game, but if I did, I'd set a gaming layer on the board so space didn't lock. As it is now, space only activates when I release the key rather than depress it. It's something that hasn't given me even a single issue, and has easily been the best Fn button I've used.

I guess Poker has been posted here many times, but I'll still contribute. I just received mine and damn I like it. It was more of an impulse purchase at first but when I took it out and began using, I noticed it's MUCH better than my old CM XT, so I'm very happy I bought this. Also first time actually contributing here with a pic.

This is with browns, after making the purchase I began to think immediately damn I should've taken clears... But I'm completely okay with browns. Actually with PBT keys and metal backplate the typing feels a lot better than with the old keyboard, even if the switches are the same.

Also, I tried Kailh browns the first time when I saw one mech in local store. I can't even believe how much shittier they are than cherrys. I have always thought I'll just buy cherrys and nothing more, but damn, those chinese knock offs were terrible.

Also forgot to say grats in >>52393998. The Poker's solid in each variant, and the 3 has a killer case and great keycaps by default. If you need braided and coiled cables, I can give you the info of a guy who sells them for way better deals when compared to Pexon, and equal in quality, sometimes better. He's in the US though, so if you're outside it'll be expensive to ship. My last cable came out to $16, it had a 9ft coil (making it about 18", sleeved and techflex. He also has uncoiled but sleeved cables for much cheaper ($10-$14). He's on GeekHack and Reddit, I'll have to find his info so it'll take a sec, but lemme know if you need it.

What exactly made you make the switch over to gaterons? What sorta benefit are you getting from the switch over the cherry ones? I am just curious because it seems like gaterons just get tossed onto the cheaper switches and everyone seems to forget about them because of their cherry mx clone nature

Thanks! And I live in EU, so shipping may cost me a bit... Although shipping from Pexon to my place costs around 15€ too, so I'm not sure how much there would be difference then. Your cable sounds pretty damn cheap for the fact it has a coil too. Coiling from Pexon costs a bit too much for me.

Yea, if you have his info I'd gladly take it. I could ask him about the shipping fees etc.

So what's the difference between the Massdrop granite set and Pimp My Keyboard (http://pimpmykeyboard.com/dsa-stock-sublimated-keycap-sets/)?

Sorry, been taking ages to reply to these. The Gateron browns are smoother than the Cherry browns. Lots of people bitch in these boards about Cherry browns because they can be a bit rough on the inside, giving you more than just the tactile bump. Gateron browns are very smooth, and have a light tactile bump - they're also very consistent about being smooth. The Zealio switches that cost an arm and a leg are just modified Gateron browns.
>>
>>52394174
You may as well order from Pexon if that's the case "/
It'll cost more to have them made in the US. The reason this guy sells cables is because it's a pain to order them from Pexon if you're here in the states. If you still want his info, his Reddit account is 90N1NE, and I'm pretty sure it's 90N1NE on GeekHack as well. His Reddit account will probably be easiest to contact him. Just look at his post history and you'll see the gallery of pre-made cables he already has made, plus he has an order form if you want something specific
>>
>>52396241
Okay. Yea I thought it would be wiser to order from Pexon, since it's in EU. It's good that this guy does the same in US, though, so that people living in the states can have stuff more cheap.

Well, I'll take a look at his work at some point. Thanks for the info still.

>>52396219
You're right on the Cherry browns, they feel a bit rough on the inside, ie there's more to the push than just a smooth bump. At the moment I'm happy with these however. I'll still keep in mind that Gateron's aren't shit and I might try them at some point. Maybe a bit heavier than browns, since I've been thinking about MX Clears for some time.
>>
>>52394855
The ISO in the Granite set aren't actually DSA. Because SP doesn't have a DSA ISO mould, they used the ISO cap from DCS. Basically, if you want an ISO cap, you just have to order a single from Pimpmykeyboard com, and order the regular set that he linked as well.

I've been considering backing out of the Granite drop and just buying the set from Pimpmykeyboard. Matt3o claims that he "realigned the legends" because he felt they were off-center - that's basically it. I have the full-text Granite set in my cart on MD right now, so unless I want to switch to the Symbol pack, it seems more beneficial to just order from PMK. I'll get it sooner, pay less, and won't have to deal with Massdrops shitty QA. I guarantee you something is going to go wrong with this drop and they'll ship sets with missing keys or misspelled characters.
Considering how much money they make off of us, you'd figure they would at least invest in a QA dept and customer service. They go radio-silent after a drop ends and stop replying to questions. It's so damn frustrating ordering from them sometimes.

Yea I have heard many people having problems with these drops. And since there are so many buyers I'd say too that there's certainly going to be some problems.

I know about that ISO Enter, that it isn't DSA. Shame. Luckily they have it in PMK's site still.

I've been considering Granite too, but don't want to make such a big investment and wait for so long and pray something doesn't go wrong etc etc. I'd just want DSA PBT keycaps with nordic ISO layout, but there's not many options out there...

I actually like Dolch a lot more than Granite, but you can't get Dolc in nordic ISO or if I remember correctly not ISO at all. Then there was one green tea set which I liked very much but that's also just ANSI.

It's suffering living in ISO country... I can't just switch to ANSI and be done with it, after all this typing with ISO layout.
>>
>>52396286
A really popular mod for the Cherry clears is called ErgoClears, it's where you take Browns and replace them with the Clear stems. Supposedly it's much smoother.
When you do the same with Gateron (no need to use a clear), you just replace the spring with a heavier one (62g is my fav) and lube the stem. It ends up being one of the best feeling switches I've used. You can buy them separately without having to mod the switch yourself, they're called Zealio switches (purple), but they're pretty damn pricey, so I've only purchased one set. The Zealio switches are neat because they have a completely transparent housing on the switch. I don't use LEDs or anything, but it's something subtle you can notice from the side of a plate-mounted board. You can even modify the Zealio switch and put an LED inside the housing, rather than sticking it outside the housing like you would on a normal switch. With the transparent housing, it diffuses the light and spreads it evenly across the key, it's pretty neat. You can check them out here if you're interested, just note that they're expensive as hell for a full set. This is also the manufacturer of Gateron switches: https://zealpc.net/collections/switches/products/zealio
>>
>>52396373
I'd be willing to bet you could switch to ANSI without many problems. I use both ISO and ANSI (don't ask), and while it took a while to adjust to the small differences on the ISO board, I managed to fully adjust within a few days - and I'm a pretty slow learner.

I've been wanting to buy a Cherry or Gateron profiled set with the same colour-scheme as Granite, but they're a real pain to find. The last set I found was from TaoBao. They're also having a group buy on MD and on GH for the Gateron caps, but MassDrop doesn't have Milk-White nor legends (they're all blanks), and GeekHack is slightly overpriced for the dye-sub kit.

Dear god, I really fucked up my formatting on >>52396440
>>
>>52396483
Well, I believe I could get used to ANSI if I tried, but I just like ISO more myself. I'm pretty good at adjusting to new things.

Thanks for the info on Zealios. I have heard the name and have seen pictures but I didn't know much info about them. Sounds pretty good actually, so I might consider them at some point. It will be just hell of a job to solder them to my Poker, but at some point it's not an impossible idea. I'd enjoy trying smoother switches now that I think about it.

Seems all the Zealios have sold out, what a surprise... Anyway, I'll keep this in mind. And luckily you don't need to buy so many switches when you're using a 60% board. I would never pay for the amount full-sized keyboard needs...
>>
>>52396613
>luckily you don't need to buy so many switches when you're using a 60% board. I would never pay for the amount full-sized keyboard needs
Couldn't agree more. No way I'm paying $100+ for switches alone.

You can often find people selling small packs on /r/mechmarket, but they sell them at an even higher cost.

Zeal also sells the 62g springs, so after having bought the Zealios and enjoying them, I decided to buy the springs and mod my gat browns into zealios myself. it was much cheaper and they feel so damn good.

>>
>>52396219
Gaterons are smoother in general due to different plastic used for their stems
>>
>>52396775
Somebody just sold (traded) a custom built RGB numpad on mechmarket, oddly he traded it for a ridiculously shitty set of 'unicorn vomit' (basically a bunch of mismatched keys from a crap-bag).
You can build your own RGB numpad for next to nothing, though. Get the case cut for free from Ponoko (free first order for new customers), you can even have the plate made in acrylic since it's such a small area to cover. Then just install switches and an ATmega16, buy some RGBs from adafruit, and you're good to go.

But how do I go about programming the RGB's though? Ideally I'd want it to match the customization of of the ducky shine 5 I'd be using.

You twist the cable in the opposite direction. Most people do it with a drill for long cables, but you can do it by hand. It reverses the tension you created by wrapping it around the bar, and forces it to be 'springy' and tight. It's how they do them for both mass-produced and custom coils. You can find more info on Google and Youtube. it feels unintuitive at first, but you'll notice it's worked once you've finished.

>Seems to work however some of the number pad keys take extra pressure to register.

I'm trying to imagine why that might be, was it shielded? You may need to use a connector with thicker wires. I figured you'd go for a USB connector then plug the USB into the converter. Also, the section you used shrink tubing on is pretty long. It could be that you didn't twist the wires properly or something.

Either way, if it works, nice job.

>>

Gaterons have a milky housing, it's more translucent than transparent.

Cherry does make some switches that are made for gaming companies called Cherry RGBs that have a transparent top and translucent bottom, but they're almost always Frankensteined from manufactured gaming keyboards.
There have been group-buys, but they're usually just transparent housing placed atop a regular Cherry switch. Plus you still deal with the defects of a Cherry switch, like the stem cross being too tight and snapping keycaps, or rough plastic that can make the downstroke of a key-press feel textured.

>>
>>52398148
Zealios don't stick on a 50g spring, I've used mine on 45g springs without lube and had no issues. The reason you get the higher spring weight is because the lube slows down the return, so if you're typing fast it makes the keys sluggish. You can use a less viscous lube on even 50g springs without many issues, but it's best to use springs above 60g to keep the keys snappy and responsive.

And why HHKB? Why not Poker? Is this also a meme?
>>
my board with gateron clears game

i underestimated just how light these switches are, especially coming from mx blue

its like typing on a cloud, just putting my finger on a key actuates it

so smooth though and it'll help my rsi a bit

>>Don't you miss the convenience of not fucking with the fn key?

it's much more convenient to have more desk space, to have arrows and shit alway under my fingers on the home row
I can also bring my keyboard with me since I travel a lot for business and laptop keyboards are terrible.

>And why HHKB? Why not Poker? Is this also a meme?
because superior topre, excellent caps, superior layour and perfect aesthetic.

Friendly reminder topre also has a superior cap profile, easier on the fingers.

Then, what possibility is to see actual low-profile mechanical keyboard in near future? It's like the only thing I miss from my old rubberdome.

What I meant was, is Poker bad?

it's a good board.

I don't love its fn layout, which you already seem hesitant about it in general.

for comparison, this is the hhkb (fn) layout. (it also has switches to swap say alt and win and so on)

also there isn't a topre poker :^)

Personally, I think it's one of the best keyboards you can get for under $100.

I'm a little hesitant about my arrow keys and a small keyboard, though I'm considering just YOLO purchasing it just to see what's this craze about.

put something near it for scale (possibly not a shoe)

How are these keycaps going to look irl? I want a set of thick PBTs, but not sure if the white is too stark. I wish they were offering milk in this round.

Got this in a yardsale for 5 dollars. Don't have an AT adapter so I can't tell if it works or is fully functional but every key sounds and feels like it does. Only thing is I don't know much about laser keyboards.

There's a groupbuy for the same keys over on geekhack right now. I think I'm gonna cancel my light grey/dark grey order from MD and get a set of milks/dark grey from GH instead, even if they cost a bit extra.

bingooo!!!

put it on ebay for 110$ and buy yourself a good keyboard
>>
>>52399716
Probably best to clean this thing first seeing how filthy it is, but not a bad idea. However I don't have a retro keyboard yet so its tempting just to hold onto it.
