I'm not >>52282050 but it's probably worth pointing out what SICP is. It was (I don't think it still is) MIT's programming 101 (although MIT has wonky course numbers) textbook written by the professor for same. The code examples are in Scheme, a dialect of Lisp(inb4 that one guy who always shits up threads about argument over wether scheme is a lisp or not, it fucking is) although it's widely considered to teach fundamentals largely divorced from the language. It's an excellent book but it's more of an introduction to programming and the culture around same than anything else.

It doesn't cover web frameworks (or really anything to do with the web in any direct way) or design patterns at all, and that's part of why it's a well loved book. Web frameworks are, almost by definition, walled gardens so the way you learn about them is by reading a specific framework's documentation, some documentation is better than others. We don't have a very good common language for talking about frameworks since they've taken a whole spread of ideologies around the problems they try to solve.

The term "pattern" is used in two ways. One just means a general way of doing something, so we might say something like "modules are a useful pattern" or something. The other is something that comes largely from the OOP world and means something (usually objects) that fulfill a set of criteria (the most famous pattern, the singleton, is an object that can only be instantiated once for example). The canonical book on this kind of pattern is Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software, usually referred to as "the gang of four" after the authors. You don't need patterns or frameworks to do web development but both these things are deeply engrained in the culture so you will need them at the point you start collaborating with other programmers.

Depends on your mobo, if you want to go that route, some BIOSes will have an option to increase the clock speed and voltage. However keep in mind the temperatures, using a stock cooler is not reccomended for overclocking at all. Also, overclocking can cause warranty void.

>>
>>52298441
>Are all these programs necessary to monitor my computer?
yes. after overclocking you will need these programs to check the system stability and the temperatures under full load, to prevent bluescreens and hardware damage. always start low and slowly increase clockspeed, stay away from voltage for now.
>>
>>52298385
Can you expound a bit? The last time this topic came up it seemed like the consensus was that Skylake isn't worth it.
>>
>>52298281
Look up your processor, should be able to find an overclock thread on some forum, hopefully with a spreadsheet of members' settings. On the easy end it's basically increase clock speed, stress test, if it fails increase voltage and try again. But again, check ranges of clocks and voltages for your specific chip. The goal is fastest clock with lowest voltage and passing a stress test (I prefer AIDA64's stress test). Don't expect much if any overclocking on stock coolers.
>>
>>52298521
Performance wise there's practically no difference between the two. The only reason I recommend Skylake is because latest is greatest. No reason to buy outdated tech

My GPU is idling at 50°C, and spikes up to past 100°C any time anything graphics-intensive is on the screen.

Should I open it to replace thermal paste and clean it, or is this something that can't be fixed unless I get a new one?

It's a two years old ZOTAC GTX760, never opened it, so it shouldn't have this kind of difficulty playing games.

I thought chromecast was strictly for android stuff, unless you're suggesting an android app that plays a video from the server then pushes it to the chromecast.

the problem is that most files that take up a lot of space, like music, video, and so on, are already compressed, and there isn't much, if anything, more to be gained there.

Reposting from last thread. Building a server (mostly for Plex/streaming and backup). I have an extra case/mobo but they're pretty large (it's a Corsair Vengeance c70). Stupid question I think I already know the answer for: 12V charger for Omni 10 tablet died, can I use another 12V wallwart with the right barrel connector soldered on, or are there any protection circuits in the stock charger that would not be present in a standard 12VDC power supply?

Yes, dont listen to the other anon. 12v is 12v. Just make sure the new wall wart is rated for the same amps or more. Also dont use the old transformer style wall warts (they have terrible regulation). All the charging circuitry is in the tablet, the walwart just supplies power.

how do I convince my retarded tin foil faggot friend to turn his javascript back on, he thinks it steals his information and shit
>>
>>52302386

I can't answer your specific question, but the numbering doesn't work quite like that.

The first number is sort of the card series or architecture.

The next two numbers are sort of the level within that series. A 980 is more powerful than a 970.

But then things get fucky, because they might update the previous architecture and a 780 might be more powerful than a 960.
>>
>>52302386
Different generations. Generally, each new generation tier similar performance to the next higher tier of the previous generation (but not always).

760 -> 950
770 -> 960
780 -> 970
780Ti - >980

And so on.

The only thing(s) keeping me from going from Windows 10 to a Linux distro is these things.

1. I do enjoy gaming
1a. If someone can link a wiki on how to do a passthrough from Linux to Windows VM so I can still game, I would be grateful

2. I schedule my downloads for nighttime

It says "for desktop PCs", so maybe there were 8xx GPUs for notebooks or game systems?

Depends on two things. If the mains in your house is old as fuck, as in made before the 60s, it will probably not be as good as a solid modern dual band router. If your house was built since then or especially in the last decade, then it will be better.

If your house is large you might want to invest in a Pico station instead of slapping powerline adapters everywhere. I installed one in a chapel as an ISP and had 2 bars of signal down the block. It's an affordable powered (PoE) wifi antenna that supports dual band
