You'd be surprised actually. I work in studio photography and many products like electronics are lit and shot in a way that, while does almost make them seem rendered, they are in fact photos and not renders.
The phones are obviously shot turned off, so that display contents are composited in afterwards, and sometimes extra effects like "screen glare" to make it more apparent that the phone is glossy.

Xperia phones are by far the sexiest phones ever designed. When I first saw the original Z, I was stunned. Still one of my favourite phones to date.
