Op is there some reason you can't just look at some benchmarks and make a simple decision based on price / performance? ??

Not OP, but I got a 380x and I'm pretty happy with it. Whatever meets your requirements and budget is what I say.

Depends justify 5-7 extra FPS for a afew dollars more,dollars you could have gotten a game with.

I got the 380X because of Linux compatibility. The GCN1.2 cards have the amdgpu driver.
As for windows, I would just get whatever you could get a better price for.
The 380X has better power efficiency, but has higher peak power as well as better performance.

just buy a used 290 card
