I would humor the meme, but I feel dirty and dishonest if I lie. SSDs are fucking great. My laptop boots up in 10 seconds and is ready to use as soon as I log in. Nearly all of my programs start in less than a second.
>>
As funny as the meme is:
SSD's are 1,000 times better. Everything works faster and consumes less power. I would honestly never put my OS on a shitty metal DVD, keep your cheap spinning meme garbage.
>>
>>52206869
So much this. I will admit to shilling SSDs because frankly they're fucking great.

SSDs on the desktop are a meme.

I'll admit some of them use less power and are less prone to damage by fall, so they're probably not a bad idea for laptops and tablets - but when was the last time you dropped your desktop while it was running?

>>
>>52207359
Holy fuck you guys are retarded. And SSD has no moving parts. On the contrary an HDD has a metal disk that takes a bit to spin up. This is why it takes fucking forever to load up your OS with an HDD. An SSD is at its full speed right when you boot it up, it fucking destroys HDDs in boot times and program startup time. Yes I know anon, latency is hard to understand (if you are a fucking retard), but the fact of the matter is that SSDs will always be faster than HDDs in every task.

I have 2 512gb SSDs in raid 1, and I honestly could never go back to my 2tb HDD. My HDD takes 30 seconds to boot into windows 8.1, my ssds take about 3 seconds. There is no question that SSDs are way faster than an HDD.

Even my programs are noticeably faster, Firefox takes literally no time at all to start up, my gayms take half as long to load, even loading basic programs such as Windows Command Prompt takes half a second less to load. Stop being a fucking autistic poorfag anon, SSDs make a difference, just ask anyone who has one.
>>

But they're all faster and you should buy one, if you don't you're just a poorfag who is too autistic to replace his SSD every two years liek a normal person would.

That's odd, the v300 is the slowest SSD you can buy but it should still be a lot faster than a hdd.

Is it connected to a SATA 3 port? I hope you're not using a third party sata controller, they suck. Also, make sure AHCI is enabled.
>>
>>52207877
That's impressive but you wont really feel a difference unless you constantly read/write large files since it's the access times that are important for a snappy system.

more like 20 seconds.

>>
>>52208012

>>52208019
Evidently you can't put PCIe drives in RAID, chipset limitation. You'd probably be better off just getting the 512GB model.
>>
>>52208060
>Evidently you can't put PCIe drives in RAID
This review seems to prove otherwise: http://rog.asus.com/361862014/rampage-motherboards/m-2-pci-express-ssd-raid-0-performance-on-rampage-v-extreme/

I don't know if Asrock's EXTREME6 can do it, though.

That appears to be regular PCIe, not NVME. I should've clarified.
>>
>>52208116

Bought myself a 128gb OCZ Vertex 4 SSD because I was extremely poor and it was on sale for $80.

From the moment I press the power button, to the system automatically logging me in, to my startup programs being ready is probably around 10-15 seconds.

It would be, but you are still paying more. Plus, you could eventually just put a second 950 in RAID 0 when the price comes down and be, much, much faster than two 256 versions.

>Access time on mine as my OS drive is .02~ (pic related.) My buddy's SSD (I think it is a HyperX, I forgot to check) by comparison six to eight times slower in AS.

I believe you but once you get under 1ms access time it becomes very hard to tell the difference. Even if an SSD has 10x slower access times than yours it's still only 0.3ms.

Don't get me wrong, you got an amazing drive. For most people on /g/ it's probably overkill though.

>>52208412
Why are you so upset, you faggot?
>>
Honestly I just use a small SSD for my OS because I was tired of suit randomly breaking and requiring a new install.

I multitask far too much to want to use an SSD for most things.
>>
>>52207959
it's not a question of money and being able to afford it.
I was gonna spend 90€ on a 240GB SSD 3 months ago. I didn't bought it for a simple reason : I don't need it. And thinking about it, who needs it ? My computer boot in 15 seconds on a HDD. All my programs are pretty fast to launch. Loading a game ? whatever, I always end waiting for other players to load the game while I have a HDD.

SSD ARE a meme. Ofc, for someone that needs to copy or transfer a lot of data, maybe it's worth it, but It's definitively not the case for most users.
>>
>>52206007
Is there really any reason NOT to get an SSD? They're cheap nowadays and reliable too.
