I am a total noob to /g/ and linux. What district is he using and what programs are used to make it look like that? I've also seen audio visualizer and terminal attached to the homescreen/desktop. I wanna get into this but I can't figure out how.

Probably Arch and screenfetch/scrot. It's in the repos of most distros. Just search it up online and see if it is. If it isn't, then it's on github and the installation is pretty simple. I can't help you with the audio visualizer and I'm not sure about the terminals myself.

you need a MoonScript installation (or use the online compiler and a Lua installation) to get the binary clock working, and you'll have to edit the paths in the script to ones on your system

So, my screenfetch delivers everything correctly except HDD. It just says "Avail / Size".

Yup. That washed out colour only looks good in a movie. I hate the foggy haze, nothing is clear. I don't think I could actually use a desktop without getting distracted by my windows looking like a fucking lens flare.

The hazy out-of-focus look is just the current trend in photography, isn't it? Back in 2012 it was a "crunch" look where you tried to look crisp and sharp while doing something stupid or posing.
The hazy look contrasts nicely when your foreground, the general workspace, is sharp.

But that's just it, you relegate the hazy look to the background wallpaper while your foreground where you actually interact with the UI is so sharp it gives you 20/20 vision. Ideally I'd like something incredibly simple that I can go back and customize later, and that is lightweight in terms of system weight (which I'm sure describes most DEs)

touch screen is alright, does everything that I want (move the cursor, click, and scroll). sometimes clicking via touch screen doesn't work when I wake my computer, but I have yet to find the cause
some issues with wireless at first, but I think the most recent fedora releases have it handled out of the box. only other notable hardware issue is sometimes it doesn't go into sleep mode because the screen makes the mouse spaz out when the lid is closed... but I think it's only been a problem when I connect it to an external monitor?
biggest struggle is getting high DPI to play nicely with linux, but fedora does a nice job of it.
9/10 laptop, would recommend

there are two scripts in the link (separated by the "==========" (which in retrospect was a bad idea))
save em both and name the first one 'mpc-notify' and second one 'mpc-notify-daemon'
run `chmod +x mpc-notify mpc-notify-daemon`
move both scripts to somewhere in `$PATH`
run `mpc-notify-daemon &` and close the terminal window`

Anyway, he's probably using arch linux. After you install, you basically want to install a WM and then just theme the shit/modify the config files for it. It's not too hard, and the installgentoo guide is pretty handy!

For that wall, I'd adjust the cut settings from Dylan's script (so she's in the shot more) then change them back. Luckily, it uses preexisting images so once you change the crop it doesn't persistently mess up.

The crop offset will work by prefixing each thumbnail with it's crop offset value. The resulting filename will look like this:
