good thing I checked, I was just making a new thread
What headphones under 70€ are best for someone who likes Bass.
I already narrowed it down to Superlux HD681 evo or HD668B or Audio-Technica ATH-M30 X or Sennheiser HD449?
All help is apreciated :3
>>52084988
668b
IIRC it has a similar soundprofile to the 681, which is very good for that price, but it has more bass
>>52084899
delicious subbass, not that i would listen to this kind of music normally.
i dont know if this makes good auditioning music though. lot of frequency present but it all happens in the same small hits. you want a song thats really going to show the differences in headphones. so something like an overture would be good as instruments are all different, you know what theyre supposed to sound like, and they will separate in a way that makes them easy to hear (especially in a neutral headphones)
Guys, what are your opinion on
Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus
Are they worth the asking price?
>>52084988
also did you take a look at the takstar pro80s?
I've heard a lot of people recommending them but haven't seen any posts with reviews yet
>>52085063
are you the same anon from last thread?
see >>52080240
>>52085000
Doesn't the b stand for balanced?
From what I could gather the 668 sounds more boring.
Also do you know if the automatically adjusting headband thing is comfy ?
>>52085064
They are pretty much impossible to get in europe
>>52085077
Yes. I am.

?
Apparently I fucked up and the 681s are the bassy version, indeed
I have the SR850 which is a 681 clone and I find the leather strap extremely uncomfortable, after a few hours, it starts to hurt on your head and you're forced to move them around a bit. I also can't place them in my neck like I used to do with my old headphones, when I don't want to use them for a bit. If I do, the sharp edges start to cut into my neck immediately
I'm not sure how comfortable those two foamed flaps are, but I doubt they're much worse than this.
>>52085143
yes but they're few and far inbetween
Evening pham
>>52085177
uh no? the 668b are the bassy ones for sure
>>52085232
nah mate
What exactly are these good for?
>>52085232
Looking on headfi's review the 681s seem to be the bassier ones for sure
>>52085177
Shouldnt have generalised for all of europe, in germany, amazon and co dont offer the Pro 80s.
Also do your SR850 fit well atleast?: Do they wiggle around and shit?
Why should I not get these
>>52085275
they stay very well put no matter how I shake my head
if I shake very hard, they'll slightly shift around a bit, but it's not like the earpads ever leave my head or they could fall off
you could still ship from amazon.co.uk no? They ship to belgium
http://www.amazon.de/TAKSTAR-Studio-Monitor-Kopfhörer-Stereo/dp/B00JHXHYSM
they sell them in .fr, .de and .co.uk
Even in .it
>>52085260
>>52085275
looking at innerfidelity's fr graphs, it's pretty clear cut though. i guess it just comes down to a trust issue again, or maybe they changed their process
>>52085319

>>52085337
are you sure it's the 681 and not the 681F or the 681B?
>>52085325
Thanks for mate, I'm going with the 681evo for now.
The Takstar seem nice but they are a little bit expensive and I'm not really an audiophile anyway. Leaves more money for games too :P

Is Xiaomi a good brand? Stepdad has personally met the head of the company and says to avoid them.
>>52085408
>Stepdad has personally met the head of the company
my dad works for xiaomi and he says your step dad walked into a meeting naked and they kicked him out
They have good low priced products, they might have chinese kids as labor slaves or god knows what but their products are good

he put "Superlux HD 681" so take it as you will
>>52085435
>>52085408
my grandpa helped make xiaomi into what it is today, but he didnt want any fame for it so he didnt officially ever join the company. he swears by their products as he designed pretty much all of them
>>52085483
implying you're not lying, how did he design them
like the outsides, or did he make the technical plans for them or whatever
how did they let a gaijin work for them, if you're not a chink
>>52085535
he designed the drivers
and what do you mean "let"? he never officially joined the company
>>52085585
just because he didn't join the company doesn't mean he didn't work for them
if he made shit for them, he must have worked for them
>>52085683
well, by the word "let", you made it seem like he would have official legal issues, which wouldnt apply if he never actually joined. maybe you meant how did they meet? i wouldnt know cause im making this all up. anyway im gonna go watch some more fairy tail, ping me on irc if someone needs help

Sony MDRZX100 ZX (or a similar model): too much bass. Got sweaty quickly. Uncomfortable when not around my ears.
Sony PSVita In-ear Headset: Sounds great for sub $20 IEMs But way too bassy for me. Has to be replaced within half a year. Cables are really cheap and are prone to stretching or maintaining a certain curve.
Sony MDR-V6: Fantastic for home use. Neutral tone. Feels sturdy. Unusable as a portable set because of thick, long, and heavy cables. Pleather is literally the devil's ass and had to replace with velour pads.

Massdrop doing a group buy for the Fiio E10K

I'm glad I went to Best Buy yesterday to try out the headphones you guys recommended in the Magnolia section.
So far I owned a pair of Koss portapro's before... which did not live up to the hype everyone claimed but I find them perfect for use outside the house.
I tried out the sennheisers 558's and the same thing, didn't impress me, but still wouldn't mine having.
I also tried out the Vmoda headphones next to the Sennheisers and still dissapointed(especially for $230).
I was going to get some 7506's since they're just about $100 but from all the disappointment from the other headphone recommendations I rather stick to the two pair of headphones I have. I made a headphone rack for three pairs of headphones and really want a third pair to finish it off. I'm starting to think the sound I want headphones don't exist unless I carry around some portable amp(too audiophile for me)
So...I guess I'll settle between the 7506's and the Audio Technica m50x. I do have one question.
For a person who enjoys melodic music/edm/classic euro disco, which should I get?
>>52087266
You should never get the M50x, they are just terrible Beats clones. Get the 7506 or M40x.
>>52085262
Accuracy in sound, but k7xx>k701 imo
>>52087207
So after taking all the trouble to log into Massdrop just to see what the fuss is about, I realize their lowest price after all the fuss is only a sliver under what Amazon normally offers.
Not sure I understand the point of that website.
>>52087266
>which did not live up to the hype everyone claimed but I find them perfect for use outside the house.
>they didn't live up to the hype but I find them perfect
???
they're obviously not made for long sessions at your pc, they're portable on ears, hence "porta"
>>52087309
you save 16$ if you're in US, like 20-25 if you're in europe
if you're a richfag, it might not seem like a lot, but I nitpick over 10$
on higher price items, there are often 50-100$ bargains you get on them, see https://www.massdrop.com/buy/violectric-audio-hpa-v90-headphone-amplifier?referer=2YVXYC&mode=guest_open
at minimum price they're 130$ under MSRP.
Also, you shouldn't have had to log in to see the prices, because of the guest_open tag no?

>>52087910
how are the earpads?
Nobass headphones appeal to me more than bassy headphones, but what does it sound like listening to death metal in nobass headphones? Or in fact anything with a prominent bass guitar?
Also how do AKG do with their sub-$100 on-ear headphones? Especially in the durability field and defense against one-ear.
>>52087837
They were a fine recommendation when they were like $60-70 but I would not call them better than anything under $150.
Same thing happened with the M50, they were highly recommended when they were sub $100 but now people assume the M50x are the go-to at their current ~$160 pricetag.
>>52087948
do you like bass, like a LOT of bass?
if so, the m50x will be the best
>>52087975
I'm not sure, but not really, the amount of bass on my skg k7xx and shure se-215 is good enough
>>52087948
If you can't order online. Doesn't that mean you can buy that on-the-spot. Isn't there an option to try it?
>>52088006
i can try all of those. but I am not sure which is best
>>52088026
Find out yourself?
How good are Grados? Worth the pedigree?
>>52087958
They are BIG. Although they may not have a lot of cushion to them they are still pretty nice because for one thing they are big and the other they barely clamp. Its like wearing nothing at all. The only negative part about them is that you cant remove the pads and unless they actually broke I dont see a reason why you should.
Although people have pulled stunts like ripping off the stock earpads and replacing them with HM5's. Anyway these are the most comfortable headphones ive worn.
Pic related is the problem I have and keeps repeating. They have a strong swivel thats held by this little key. The key is located on the inner side of the pivot, basically drilled in hole. The key for some reason pops out for me causing the pivot to come loose from its housing. What this does is it leaves the cup hanging and the swivel is loose, like nothing at all is adding any friction to it. But as much as ive researched then absolutely no-one else has had this problem.
>>52088052
On this pic you can see how the cup is loose when the key pops out
>>52088026
Just try it. My subjective impression is m50x your best bet, but you can improve the comfort by going into MDR-1A or extend the bass by going into HD7 DJ. I didn't like MDR-100aap as it feels plasticky both in sound and build quality, and didn't trying Focal Spirit Professional.
>>52088083
maybe see if you can get direct access to it and dip it in something to make it longer/thicker
Not exactly sure what you'd use for it, but it should work
>>52088117
Ive thought about superglue but thats a no go since it would dry too fast. It takes some fiddling to get it back in since you have to push the cup back in its housing pretty strongly before pushing in the key. Ive usually used hooks.
The worst thing is when the key COMPLETELY pops out from its place and then i have to look for it on the floor or something.
And as you may tell from the picture the gap is very tights so its hard as fuck to get it back in its hole.

Disassembling it seems impossible.
The engineering is too perfect to fit anything else in. Its an exact fit.
Any recommendations for headphones for primarily classical music listening? I also play video games from time to time, but that is of lesser importance. Around 100-150 dollars in budget, but it is flexible within reason. Comfort is rather important since I mean to wear them for extended periods of time.
>>52088497
m40x are cheaper and have less bass
if you enjoy bass, you should look at m50x or 770, if you don't particularly look for it, go for m40x
Was looking for a closed headphone and found M40X on sale so I ordered it. Will be my first better headphone. Comments in this thread really make me look forward to it.

668b is you want bass as in "richness", it doesn't have much impact though, so it's not going to sound like a bassy closed headphone. it is one of the best sounding cheap headphones though, just eq down the highs some. the 681 evo is good if you fucktons of bass, like basshead level. it's not as detailed and more colored than the 668b or 681 but the highs are not harsh at all and it does deliver a lot of bass with impact. it is boomy sounding though.
For the past year i've used HD650 /w modi2/magni2 combo. Pretty happy with it. Very natural, quality sound.
Though started having thoughts of upgrading DAC/AMP to bring it to a new level for my birthday. What should i get, if at all?
Any recommendations on upgrading? Will it be noticeable?

Yes, but i quite like it. I went to HD6xx from M-100 being a basshead. HD600 was just too much for recalibrating my ears. By quality, natural sound i meant that whatever i listen to it sounds good. Nothing is emphasized too much.

So my gf wants new iems and i know nothing about iems because im a headphoneguy. She wants lots of bass. Been looking for se215, would they be good ones?
Not an audiohpile, but i got some seinhesers from my mum for christmas since I mentioned breaking my last pair of headphones, anyway, theyre fine, great even, but I was wondering if I bought an amp if i could use them louder without deteriorating the sound quality?
If i turn them past 100% in software the sound goes to ass, with my limited knowledge of audio I want to guess thats because when the software bossts it it starts to clip or something.
anyway, tldr; will an amp make my headphones louder without ruining qualityt?
Opinions on the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohm version? Any other suggestions that are into that general price range?
>>52089137
Yes but you don't want to, especially if you're young.
Get an app that measures decibels and place it in between your cups when on 100% volume without an amp. If it shows about ~70 db's you're good on the volume.
Increasing it more will most certainly give you tinnitus over prolonged period of listening. Read on it, it's a nightmare to live with.
>>52089242
>creds for this pictures mate
>>52089242
snapped headphones isnt a good meme image with no context, thats got to be the most common way to break headphones.
>>52089248
I'm 22 but already have tinitus, i'll get an app to check them anyway.
Sometimes you just want really loud music is all, I still couldn't hear someone talking next to me at the moment anyways
>>52089292
This has been getting worse and worse over the past few months. I noticed the cracks starting but since there's not much I can do about it I really didn't think much of it.
Before you go blaming me for mistreating the headphones take a look at the pics. That's both sides in the same area, stress from putting them on and taking them off your head I presume.
I treat all my stuff with care and these things have never been thrown around or mistreated. I can't believe I paid almost 200$ for these a year ago and this is the quality I get.
I swear if these things break to the point where I can't use them anymore I'm taking pics and making a massive thread showing true Sennheizer quality.
>>52089242
This is not a headphone problem, but certainly owners fault. You don't drop expensive hp's like it's your generic Walmart one's on a table. You take care of them. Still mint condition.
>>52087837
they're good, or were when they were cheaper, but they definitely have flaws. people saying they were a baby hd800 were retarded. they're basically a poor man's 598. depending on the price it's usually worth it to just spend a bit more on a 558.

I got 598SE which is the same thing but with the 558 colour scheme and an additional short cable for £75 on black friday.
They sound good as you've heard for the money but you can tell the moment you pick them up they're not durable in the least. I'm sure the housing is more fragile than Beats.
I hang them on the back of my computer monitor when not in use to stop them getting knocked around. Wouldn't even dream of taking them outside like a pair of v-moda or grados
>>52089879
>I got 598SE which is the same thing but with the 558 colour scheme
It's literally a foam modded HD558 while the HD598 is a foam modded HD558 with a shit color scheme
>>52089901

>>52089901

There's some slight sound quality differences between the 2, but the main thing is that the HD598 is way more durable, and it's got some nice leather finishes. In my case both of them cost the same so I might as well consider HD598 over HD558.

No. Identical drivers with basically identical enclosures. The only relevant difference being the pattern on the opening behind the driver.

Still better than hard plastic imo, especially with the headband.
I've recently discovered the joy of hanging my headphones a few feet away from my space heater, so that the ear pads are warm and soft when I put them on.
Anybody else do this?
(They're not close enough to be damaged by the heat, by the way, certainly no worse than leaving them out of the sun in a car on a warm day.)
>>52089062
SE215s arent too bassy but do have enough (for me at least).

Hey /hpg/, I want to get my sister and brother-in-law a belated Christmas present. (poorfag -- had no money for Christmas.) I noticed they've been running off their flatscreen TV speakers since their stereo broke, so I thought I'd gift them a system. Already picked up a used Sony 100W 8" powered sub for $30 that's quite nice. (not house-shaking, but it filled the room when I hooked it to my surround)
Anyway, I found this:
Denon AVR-2105 for $100.
Specs:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cGRT8YNzIyq/p_033AV2105B/Denon-AVR-2105.html
They'll only be using it in 2.1 off a PS4, mostly for Netflix.
Think it will be worth it, or should I go for a budget Onkyo TX-SR500 for $60?

absolute shit. actually listened them in person(both major and monitor) and both of them are terrible. major wouldn't be a good buy even if it cost 20 bucks and the monitor is just niggerbass through the roof with build laughable for the asking price.
>>52090458
I don't think I'm going to find any of those on CL.
They still have their old speakers, which always impressed me. I knew you could pick up receivers for $50 all day long on CL, so after seeing the $30 powered sub, I figured you couldn't do much better for ~$80 total.
I'm just wondering if it might be worth it to spend the extra $40-50 for a higher end receiver. That Denon was $650 new and decodes most everything. They certainly have the money to go 5.1 or full 7.1.

15c is basically what it's been in here lately. The thermostat here requires me to go outside, climb stairs, and back into the house on the next level if I want to turn it off, and I rent this room so I can't go walk into the house unless I'm properly dressed, so I just use a little space heater and wear a sweater unless they turn the heat on upstairs.
Would an investment in a nicer DAC greatly improve the sound from my Grado SR80e?

I've been a NEET for 15 years.
They get me a couple hundred dollars in presents every year. I get them a couple packs of candy. If I can afford it. So sometimes nothing.
I can afford some cheap CL deals. I actually can't quite afford that Denon if I want to eat, so I'm wondering if it's worth asking my BIL to throw in $20 towards his own present to get that, or if I should stick to a cheaper, older receiver that I can afford myself.

I have the same Sound Blaster, and I found that it made a noticeable difference compared to onboard, as heard through MDR-V6s.
However, that difference is primarily found in gaming, where the card handles positional audio much better, and where getting sound processing off the CPU frees up a few FPS. I don't think it's worth it for music.

AD700X is less accurate than the HD 558 and very bass light. M50X is the opposite, being very bassy and also much less accurate than the HD 558. It's also closed and has pretty poor comfort unlike the other two.
Go read some graphs.

>>52093141
It depends. An unsatisfying answer, I know, but on-board and discrete electronics are not created equal.
These issues can be broken down into non-linear distortion (hiss, buzzing, new tones), magnitude response, phasing and timing errors.
Besides non-linear distortion, these are all straightforward to measure. Also fairly easy to do well, at least for electronics. You would hope that the discrete unit does a better job at satisfying these parameters.
This is how you judge audio electronics, and other things such as impedance or current limiting affect these values.
Are these absolute GARBO tier? i have an opportunity to get them for a very nice price. I find them very comfortable and I like the look of them.

dunno about the HD668b, but the HD558 are really good for what they cost.
Don't expect powerful bass, though, not that it's really a bad thing about them. but if you like your bass strong then maybe try something else. And the E10K (and similar amps) don't do much to help with the bass. I mean it helps, but more like 10% so imo it's not worth it unless you really want some very slightly better audio quality or if your pc or whatever you're using them on doesn't work well with them, aka you hear buzzing or the volume is too low.

lol I don't need to justify my purchase to an anon on /g/. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who prefers the sound of the TH900. The price wasn't the main issue for me.

Good for you.
As a different person, I've seen people take it extremely personally when I tell what I think their headphone. One guy threw every sort of insult possible at me when I said I disliked his Audezes.
I can't seem to find anything conclusive (google is pure ads) - Does a 3.5mm to dual XLR cable split left/right audio or duplicate it to both outputs?

It should separate left and right.
