Is it better to place your computer on or under the desk?
For noise, maintenance and cooling of course. I have no need to show it off to anyone but myself.

It depends on whether or not you have a good place to put it that isn't on your desk. The reason people put their computers on their desk is because it's the easiest good spot to put it, but unfortunately it takes up room that way.

The two factors you want in an ideal computer spot is (a) having a layer between your computer and floor to keep dirt from finding its way inside and (b) relatively open space around the computer so that it can maintain airflow and not overheat.

>noise
well, putting it under a desk is usually better, it'll be farther away and won't have a direct line of sight to your ears.
>maintenance
Harder to get to under the desk. You'll have to blow the dust out more often if you have carpeting. Hopefully there's no pets around.
>cooling
Well, cool air sinks, I suppose in some rooms having it on the ground might be better. Most houses are heated evenly enough that that's not a factor though. Again, if you have carpet, you'll have to blow dust out, and make sure your PSU intakes from inside the case, and not through the bottom. Most cases these days have the mounting holes to let you install it this way.

Really all of these are minor concerns though. Put your computer where it's most convenient.

The lower you put it, the more dust there will be. You should at least stay clear of the lowest 20cm before the floor.
If you live on the ground floor, it's usually 3-4 degrees cooler there than at face height. It's not enough of a difference to matter.

No, the windows are clearly on the right.

Under the desk but not on carpet. Less noise and more desk space.
