Anyone here still use XP as their main OS? Is it really unsafe now that MS is no longer putting out updates, or is that mostly fearmongering?

As long as you dont connect to the internet it's save.

>Is it really unsafe now that MS is no longer putting out updates
Yes
You're data will be fucked. Install some lightweight gnu/linux distro if the computer is slow. Maybe lubuntu.

Half the worlds bot nets are pirated win xp installs. So yeah, I hope you plan to stay air gapped.

I was using XP on my old Athlon 550mhz desktop a while ago. It's the only OS that runs on my 1999 computers without problems and can still use Firefox. I don't like using it on computers that can run 7/8/10 though.
its not just microsoft not offering updates, no one is updating xp. including anti virus providers. so if there is a late model piece of malware floating around out there, theres a good chance of it completely fucking your shit up.

>fearmongering
Yep. My mother's been using my old T60p for the last four and a half years and has yet to get a virus or anything else malicious. Not even any toolbars.
Remember to keep Common Sense up to date and you can use whatever OS you want.
You can make M$ think your XP PC is an ATM machine and it will still get security updates.

Mostly fearmongering, but I still wouldn't do anything really mission-critical on it.
I still use a couple XP systems mostly for archival jobs, it's still a plenty usable OS, same with 2K.
>implying newer OS are somehow safer
All Windows has done since '98 is update the UI.
>>51993528
>unsafe now
It never was safe. Nothing is 100% safe anyway.
>is that mostly fearmongering?
Yes

AV providers never update an OS, and modern AV still run on XP just fine
>>51994472
How does that work?
>>51995315
Changing something in the registry
lets try to make a list of all software that doesnt support xp anymore, from me
>filezilla
>krita
>paintnet
>>51993528
Yes. It just werks.
no way, just have a vm for it.
>>51993528
please define unsafe.
if you are using it for regular shit, just install malwarebytes or something and you are good to go.
if you are a basement H4CK3R who needs to hide the best MOESHIT from the FBI, and your pepe pics from ayyliums, you are fucked.
