Since I don't feel wholeheartedly hyped for that new FiiO M3 player and there seems to have not been made an adequate replacement for the Sansa Clip+, how do I decide which of these $20 chink MP3 players that reportedly support Vorbis are most worth my money? Or if there does happen to be a solid $40 player on the market, please tell me what it is and which earphones I should buy for it working on a $100 collective budget.

Also I still can't figure out why my ffmpeg keeps skipping the OP and ED chapters of these dual-audio 10bit autism anime encodes when I try to compat them, but it's damn annoying.

It looks fine to me but I can't personally vouch for it. I can however recommend the Asus RT-N56U as I do own that. Great little router and seems within your price range. It doesn't have as much range as higher end models (I can pick up my Asus RT-AC66U from two blocks away) but you get what you pay for.

Red: WD Red drives are unique in the “color coded” WD drive line up in that they offer ERC/TLER and are designed for use in small “home use” server RAID arrays and storage devices (such as NAS and SAN.) Under the hood the WD Red drives are WD Green drives, all specifications are the same including the 5,400 RPM spindle speed, but with TLER enabled in the firmware. Physically they are the same drives. WD officially recommends Red drives only for consumer applications but Red drives, due to their lower power consumption and TLER, have proven to be extremely popular in large RAID arrays, especially when used for archiving. Red drives, having URE 10^14, are dangerous to use in parity RAID arrays but are excellent for mirrored RAID arrays and truly shine at archival and similar storage needs where large capacity and low operational costs are key and storage performance is not very important.

My buddies convinced that an IPS, 144 hz, 1 ms response time monitor that's decently cheap will be available in a few months. Is it reasonable to think such a monitor, that's at least 1080p and near $300, will be released within 6 months?
>>
>>51993615
It would be useless, as it would be relatively much less time consuming to decrypt data.

It doesn't have to be fast, strictly, but basically we rely on the fact that the process is basically one way, and the only way of finding the correct key is to simply try each one in turn till it works.

Finding an algorithm even slightly better than brute force would basically cripple our current system.

Hey yeah, so like... I never really played many video games on computer, but lately I have found I have more free time and am looking for something to help fill up that time.

I am running linux and and considering installing some games.

What are some good games for linux?
Are there any?
I don't like first person games so much.
I like games where you can see your guy.

Does linux have games that are fun and entertaining or???

Hi, /sqt/
I'm having an issue with fonts in Chromium/Chrome. For the record it happens only on Windows, works fine on my Mint.

For some reason my Japanese fonts look like complete shit when I have Zoom at 33% or lower. They're all good looking and fancy at 50% and higher though. At 33% they're distorted, unreadable and no longer "transparent". Any idea how to fix that?

I'm trying to using OBS to record some stuff and for some reason the video quality never looks as good as the original. The colors are washed out and there's some slight fuzziness all over the place. Is this normal? I'm using the settings from here https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-make-high-quality-local-recordings.16/

It's more noticeable when viewing text, so I've included an example. Is there a way to fix this or is OBS just shit?
>>
>>51996945
For recording you're always going to get this effect. Fraps is the only way to record perfectly and shadowplay is a close alternative
>>
>>51996945
Forgot to mention that the top example is taken from OBS and the bottom example is just a screenshot.
>>
>>51996945
sounds like you're referring to color subsampling

most (basically all) consumer video (tv, dvd, bluray, internet streams, etc, etc) use YUV 4:2:0 color space/color subsampling, which basically means the chroma (color) is quarter the resolution of luma (intensity/greyscale)

your desktop, and games are not subsampled, they're (mostly) RBG24

colorspace conversion is inevitable, there's a good reason video is YUV and a good reason why desktops and games are RGB, but that alone is lossless enough not to really matter

you do want to avoid color subsampling when encoding desktops and games though, at least for high quality masters, this means using YUV 4:4:4, instead of 4:2:0 (or others)
>>
I installed gentoo but I have no idea how to use it efficently.

How do I know which USE flags to use? I get the feeling I have way too much dependencies.

Also is the desktop profile the right one if I only use i3?

Why is my installation with almost nothing (Xorg and i3) already at 11GB?

>>51996142
You could try Dwarve Fortress or Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Very addicting and should work on any distribution. There are also tons of Minecraft clones if you are into that. Emulators are pretty cool too.
>>
what good resources do you use to learn about aws or cloud deployment in general?
>>
>>51997041
ps. yes it's normal

subsampling is used because human eyes are much less sensitive to color resolution than luma/intensity resolution

which is why you have likely never noticed this until now

subsampling only stands out on "artificial" sources, like perfectly sharp, 1px lines/text in desktops/games
>>
>>51997041
>>51997080
Wow, thanks for all the info. I'm looking into YUV 4:4:4 now, but you apparently need the multiplatform version of OBS to enable it.

i know my way around ffmpeg, and much of the basics of video coding, but don't record my desktop much
i just use simplescreenrecorder for that when i do, though, usually just to show someone on /g/ something

in ffmpeg, it will use 4:4:4 if that's what the source is, and the output supports it, unless you specify another pixel format, otherwise it's set with;
-pix_fmt yuv444p

i don't worry about it with simplescreenrecorder, 4chan can only into VP8 in webm's, and i'm pretty sure VP8 can't into yuv444p, and they're going to be heavily compressed anyway
>>
>>51997334
Thanks again for the clear and concise answers. I have some experience with ffmpeg as well, though I have only used it to convert existing audio and video. And yeah, it sucks that 4chan doesn't support VP9. After trying to fit bigass webms into the 3MB limit using only VP8, I just wanna die.

Actually, that brings me to another question for you. What are your go-to ffmpeg settings for making high quality, 4chan-compatible webms? I usually use something like
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -ss 00:00:00.000 -to 00:00:00.000 -quality best -c:v libvpx -qmin 0 -crf 4 -b:v 2000K -qmax 28 -an -sn -vf scale=800:-1 output.webm
(with some varience on qmin, qmax, bitrate, and vf scale of course) but I'm still somewhat new and not sure if I could be doing things better. These settings and similar usually give a nice looking result, but I'm obviously still a little unsure of myself and haven't really experimented too much with things like maxrate, minrate, bufsize, two-pass encoding, etc.

If you don't want to respond to that wall of text that's fine. You've already helped me enough.
>>
>>51997481
na, those options are all i use as well

obviously there's more, but nothing worth using on one-off 4chan posts

even the "best" deadline i only use for shorter stuff, vp8 is pretty slow
on that note, i specify the number of threads manually when encoding vp8
-threads $(nproc)

tends to be faster, for vp8 at least
>>
>>51997552
I'll use that the next time I'm making some dumb webms. Thanks for your help. Have a good day or night, anon.

Brother's self-built PC.
Mobo is Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 .
4 DDR3 slots.
The two slots closest to the CPU won't work. The two further ones will but no dual channel.

BIOS settings seem correct and RAM is compatible and no errors in memtest in single channel. I'm at wits end. Latest BIOS (other than the beta one everyone says is shit). Some people suggested it might be the CPU cooler (?) and contact of the pins.

Any advice?

Basically I want the overall floor plan for a building I'm interested in, but I've only got access to sections of it. As these are all part of the same floor and structure, they share common features which I want to stitch together, however doing this manually would be incredibly tedious (lots of floors, lots of sections).

Try disabling media.mediasource.enabled in about:config and see what happens. I know previous versions had trouble with embedded subtitles and the like, and slightly newer versions struggled with an buggy MSE implementation. The result was an error message like yours.
