I once installed crunchbang on a toshiba portege w/ 386 processor, and it worked great. It was an "is it possible"? thing. The laptop is actually in pieces right now and I'm probably going to replace the hard drive with a compact flash card. It's a remarkably good computer, though the trackpoint had long rotted away and I had to replace it with a pencil eraser (hashtag lifehack). Current plan is to put FreeDOS on it and then put it away for another decade.
