Windows can't measure time in attoseconds
>>

Get an atomic watch and find a way to Interface it with your PC.

Then write a script to divide the atomic watch data until you get the desired magnitud. Error margin will probably be around 6x10e82 attoseconds

Hey I have an Asus G46V laptop and about half a year ago, something happened where the charger won't work when I plug it directly into the port, not I have to twist and bend the charger cable in a certain way so my laptop can charge. the cable you're bending, is the one that goes from the laptop to the adapter or the one that goes from the adapter to the wall socket?

It's the one going from adapter to laptop. I looked around and people said it's some issue of the motherboard being loose or something

no i didn't kill anyone it's something minor and i'm only in it for like 1.5 years not 3.
>>
>>51940967

Well, fuck. Do you get the same result by just moving the connector from side to side? Or do you have to actually bend the whole cable?
>>
>>51940967
more likely it's the cable
>>

That's what I thought but I bought another cable and for awhile it worked fine until the problem started again.

>>51940918

Youtube has the audio and video as separate streams for 1080p and higher, so you have to download both the video and separate audio files. 720p and lower is in one file.

I assume they do this so they only need to store one audio stream for all 1080p+ videos, while lower resolutions use similar lower quality audio.
>>
>>51941052

Then it's probably the socket.

You'll have to find another socket, get a manual for dissasembling your notebook and replace said socket.

You'll be better off taking it to a technician if you're not familiar with soldering shit.

It *could* be another thing but I can't think of anything else right now.

It does?

(not that I care, because I'm not a greedy asshole, I have a VPN, and a nice fat pipe... for your mom)
>>
>>51941231
Isn't that just lag?
Or do you mean smooth scrolling?
>>
>>51941231
I think what you're looking to turn off is smooth scrolling, that or autoscroll
>>
>>51941231
>Like mouse scrolling trail or something?

I think it's called "shitty applications that don't pay attention to how far behind they've fallen and, instead of skipping some of the shit they're scrolling, they just keep on trudging through the whole fucking thing". Also, lag, but I wouldn't call it lag in the traditional sense. It's created entirely by poorly implemented software.
>>
>>51941210

Sounds like you're being extremely picky about your torrent client.
>>
>>51941231

It could be input lag or smooth scrolling, the latter you can get rid of.
>>
>>51941271

I don't really blame him. I don't trust those Bittorrent fucks.

Last time I tried. Used to be 5kb/s but last time I tried Transmission Qt(a week or so maybe) it was stuck on 10kb/s.

My internet is awful. I have like 40kb/s upload, shared between 4 computers.

>>51941271
I am. Why should I settle for something that just trudges along if there's something better out there?
qBitt irritates me a bit but it's still fully usable and Transmission would be wonderful if not for the annoying upload limit.

>>
>>51940492
I'm an EE student. It is possible to lower your electric bill by using the appropriate power factor correction capacitors. Most appliances have them built in already but that doesn't necessarily mean you're getting a perfect 1.0 power factor. We have power strips in one of the labs at my university that have a digital readout of the power factor. It's surprising how low it can get with a few circuits plugged into the strip. In theory this could work. Most of the reviews are negative so my guess is it was someone's good idea just poorly executed.
>>
>>51941306
since you're in the dark ages of the internet I'll share a workaround with you for transmission
leave the upload settings alone, instead set your seed ratio limit to zero, then it won't upload anything
>>
>>51941313

Why's that? I've been using it to install essentials on customer PCs but always felt like I should install everything separately
>>
>>51941313
So what should be the correct choice for this?

>did ISIS come through your town or something?
Actually. Not far off since I live in Sweden.

Might be getting fiber come spring if I'm lucky. But I never am.

>>51941323
Yeah. It's getting really bad recently. But I also have some issues with my torrent never actually downloading 100% so I have to do one or two forced re-cheks. Though that might be more of a general issue with torrenting and not qBitts fault. I'm not sure.

I recently reformatted my Laptop because It didn't recognise my oldest widnows password, really stupid stuff.

Anyways while in the process, it asked me to provide a drive so it can backup my files.

7 hours later, I finally open the computer only to find out the backup files came in an INP format which I don't even know what it means, and google only provides mumbo jumbo.

The file is 447 GB large, so I'm pretty sure it's my old files compressed somehow.

My question is, how do I open them ?

/flt/ is pretty dead, so I'll ask here.

How do file permissions for symlinks work?

I rather short-sightedly mounted the external HDD for my headless Arch server to /home/mainuser/storage and now I need another user to be able to access the HDD for torrenting. I made a directory /home/mainuser/storage/.torrents and symlinked it to /home/otheruser/torrents and changed the owner of both .torrents and the symlink to otheruser. When I ssh in as otheruser though, I can't cd or ls through the symlink, and otheruser's deluged instance doesn't detect the HDD storage.

What did I do wrong? Should I just remount the external drive somewhere else? How would I do that and ensure both users can access it?

I bought a 21:9 60hz monitor recently. I'm pretty ok with it for things like movies and -some- games, adobe applications and the like.

However my old 120hz monitor (a vx2268wm) still survives, with a lower resolution (1680x1050) and picture quality. I was thinking of using it as well, but I'm worried about consumption. Would you say idle power consumption is too noticeable?

Probably not much. You can always turn it off with software or the plain power switch on the monitor in case you don't need it.

I just built my first PC, does it matter which direction you put your exhaust processor fan/heatsink? I have mine blowing straight up because a quick google said it didn't matter, but it seems like 100% of /g/ builds have it pointing to the back.
>>
Where in Europe does one get cheap thinkpads? EBay sucks
>>
>>51944268
I have two fans which basically blows through the heatsink out towards the back of the case just for consistent airflow. Just think airflow.
>>
>>51944268
depends. where is the air intake?

general rule of thumb is the airflow should be straight.
>>
>>51944268
heat rises, so pointing it upwards gives you increased airflow. this is assuming your case has an exhaust at the top.

I'm in the process of configuring a mailserver following this guide:
https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postfix/email-with-postfix-dovecot-and-mysql

However, nowhere in this guide is SPF records mentioned, and I'd like to configure that too. I found a mention of it on the same site (linode), but it says "With this SPF record, the receiving server will check the IP addresses of both the sending server and the IP address of example.com" (for their case anyway). Thing is, I plan on having the mailserver on its own with its own IP, so it won't be the same as my webserver's IP.

Either way, a nice guide to setting up SPF would be nice. I found this:

Need some advice for a laptop purchase. Info in image. The only real pro for it now is to play video games.

I have a toshiba a665-S5170 i3 and it can decently run programs I'm gonna use for graphic design, websites and school stuff. I wanna get an ssd for it then reformat since it has 5 minute boot times.

If I get the ssd, it'll last me for the 6 months I have at uni. The sale price is tempting for its specs in its price range, but the $117 difference makes me swing back and forth. Having the $447 saved instead does feel nice, but there's no real reason other than emergency funds. The biggest fear is spending $530 all at once then returning it because I didn't like it, which makes me lose $80 to partial refunds.

Hey,

Hi I have a problem and for me it doesn't make any sense.
Ok I recently bought a ssd for my pc an wanted to make a clean install of Windows 10. I ran into some problems with installing because of license and so on. But finally I managed to get it installed and activated. I noticed then that ahci wasn't enabled with my ssd. So I switched it in win 10 and Bios. And now the strange thing, I can' boot of that ssd anymore under no circumstances. I keep getting that there is no bootable device installed although I can see with Ubuntu live that the system is properly istalled.
For now no matter what os I installed the ssd will not boot at all

I hope here is someone that can help me thanks, because I don't get the problem
>>
>>51945116
>What parts am i limited to putting inside of this thing?
RAM if you're lucky and an ssd.
>>
>>51945305
>I can' boot of that ssd anymore under no circumstances

Kind of a standard problem with SATA devices, that only affects Windows.

1. switch back to IDE mode in BIOS
2. boot up windows
3. install the AHCI sata drivers for the controllers
4. reboot, set them to AHCI
5. windows should boot up

There are plenty of guides for this on the internet, so be sure to check google if this doesn't work. There is a guide where you have to set one registry key from 0 to 1, I had to use that once.

You WILL pay a premium for a prebuild second hand or not.
Building your own system isn't that hard, just do it, the major plus is that the computer you build is exactly the one you want.
If your buying that to play games, you won't be playing any triple A titles of this generation with only 2gb vram on that GFX card.
Although the CPU is ok (amd though...) and doesn't specify the HDD speed.
Ask for more details about that before buying.

Should I learn how to use a Linux-based system (like Ubuntu) before learning C? I've already started learning C, and basic programming concepts like data structures, control structures and variables. I've always been a Windows user though, so my sensibilities don't line up.

>>
>>51946376
I'm more or less asking it out of familiarity of system. As in, the interface I'm used to is certainly higher level as opposed to Linux.

Does this mean I should learn a higher level language that's more suited to my moderately shallow understanding of computers and software or do I try to take on a more stripped down OS and learn C that way?

Why doesn't the desktop have 5Ghz? Because the wifi adapter you bought was some low $15 one.

If this fits your profile you found the problem.

never needed to get new ones, these still werk, y'know?

Like, you're working for him without having signed any contracts or anything else legally binding? Yeah, he can refuse to pay you and it would be perfectly legal.

If he suggested this, he's probably trying to fuck you over, and you should immediately ask to be legally employed, and if he says no, tell him to fuck off.

So the problem is in my wifi card itself. Hm. So I should look for something like this then anon?

the newer ones seem to be shit anyway, either the lead-free solder doesn't last very long or they're just products of planned obsolescence

It looks like the program threw a System.InvalidProgramException.

From this thread: https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=14674, it sounds like this exception indicates that Mono isn't able to run this.

i'm not worried about him paying me as much as him later not supporting the fact that i worked for them, in case i leave on bad terms.

What are the pros and cons of pirating Windows?

I really don't see the point in paying for fucking Whendows 8 (+) as I fucking hate the layout and how I got to get used to it. Windows 7 was ok but I loved XP back then

I'm trying to be smart about my budget for building my first PC

Which parts are a priority over others?
I heard >i7 >monitor and graphics card? could be wrong

I want to be able to emulate games at 60fps though so I know graphics card ain't got nothing to do with it

Help?
I haven't seen my family in a year and I really think it would be nice to build my first PC at my hometown when I go visit them at some point coming next week for my older brothers who love gaming and I really wish to share the amazing things PC can do with them
Besides for the ugly loop behavior instead of while (true), and the hardcoded values, this is a perfectly reasonable implementation of bogosort.

Thanks. I found out that I need net 4.0 for the program. My distro is 64bit though. I've created 32bit wine prefix

How do I switch prefixes? Or direct wine to run in the 32bit prefix so that I can install net 4.0 through winetricks?
>>
>>51945700

Just build it.

You could walk out today and get hit by a bus, shit happens. Chances are you won't fuck up since it's pretty easy and there are plenty of videos to walk you through the process.

Besides, there's nothing like the feeling you get after succesfully finishing your first build. I didn't think I could get emotionally attached to a thing but I fucking love my computer.

>What are the pros and cons of pirating Windows?
Pros:
* You don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for Windows
* Microsoft doesn't get any money
Cons:
* You have Windows on your computer after you do it
* None of the loaders are open source and thus might silently BTFO every computer they're installed on

>I really don't see the point in paying for fucking Whendows 8 (+) as I fucking hate the layout and how I got to get used to it. Windows 7 was ok but I loved XP back then
If you have Windows 7, why don't you just do the free upgrade to Windows 10? Apparently, most people with Daz's loader were able to upgrade to Windows 10 just fine.
>b-but muh privacy
If you think Windows <10 haven't been cucking your privacy, you're retarded. At least Windows 10 adds a few nice features.

>Which parts are a priority over others?
What do you mean? Like which parts should you spend extra money on? If you're emulating, CPU is definitely important, but anything more than two cores won't affect performance very much. Go with an i5 unless you need the i7's hyperthreading for other purposes. For general gaming, the GPU is definitely going to be the most important factor for performance. It might also be worth spending a little extra on a small SSD to store your OS and a few games.

$ export WINEPREFIX=/full/path/to/prefix
$ winetricks dotnet40

>>51947028
Oh, and by "pirating Windows" I assume you mean installing Windows via an official ISO and then running a loader, not downloading an ISO from a torrent site, because I'm guessing you're not retarded enough to think that would be a good idea.

I need a tool that can create ISO files from directories/files. It must be either open source or an official Microsoft utility. Bonus points if it's portable.

mkisofs

open source, portable, no idea if there's a windows port though

It can total my PC entirely or just going to have to redo everything to run my PC back again sorry for being ignorant

Hey.

I have speakers with only 6.3/Tele and so I've been using these cables connected to a DAC and then to my computer.

I recently got a receiver as I thought it would be more convenient to hook everything up to one place.

Now. How would I go about this? AS you can see from

http://media.tas.zeitpress.com/articles/images/Pioneer_A-20_Back%20300dpi%205in_1.jpg

there's no RCA "inputs" for my speakers to go to the receiver?

I can't seem to figure out how to actually make the ISO using this program. There's a mkisofs binary included, but it immediately exits without printing an error message, which makes me think some DLL is missing.
>>
>>51947462
if a dll was missing you'd get an error

you're not just double clicking mkisofs.exe, are you?
>>
>>51947408
if you don't mind wasting a cable if it don't work you could try lopping the ends off of one end of the cable and dividing and connecting the wires to the terminal posts
>>
>>51947499
Actually, a command line program without anything extra that's missing a DLL will silently fail (I've been writing a C library in Visual Studio for a few weeks). No, I'm running mkisofs with the same arguments and flags as the original version.

Why isn't a valid MX record accepted as valid by Cloudflare?

Name: @
Server: xxx.xxx.xx.xxx

Aren't MX records supposed to point to an IP address? I seem to recall that working fine before. Now it seems I have to create another A records then point the fucker there.

{
static boolean isSorted(String s)
{
char prev = '\0';

for (char c : s.toCharArray()) {
if (c < prev) return false;
prev = c;
}

return true;
}

public static String bogosort(String s)

Here you go, anon. I cleaned up the code, made the sorting algorithm a public method, and call the specific case "typewriter" from the main function. I also made a version that takes generic objects that implement Comparable for themselves, but I didn't want to duplicate the functionality of randomSort, so here's the non-generic version just for strings.
>>
>>51948046
Forgot to quote
>>51940205

Also, I fail to use the output of bogosort("typewriter") in the main function. That line should instead read System.out.println(bogosort("typewriter"));
