We just need a modern desktop environment that uses Qt and is polished (unlike plasma). I wish Cinnamon would switch to Qt. The Gnome team is holding back progress. It's even worse that they control gtk instead of it being independently developed. Let me know if something is wrong with my reasoning.

No one cares about DEs. You can use whatever DE you want. It doesn't affect the file dialog used by programs. What we need is for all projects to abandon GTK, and for modern toolkits to allow configuring external programs for handling stuff like file dialogs.
