i have similar specs

i use either arch or ubuntu server, though no matter what you can expect your laptop to run better than windows regardless of the distro. the biggest resource hog on boot is going to be your DE/WM, so no matter what distro you choose the most important thing is you decide on a DE/WM. if you are new and dont know what you want, grab a DE like xfce or lxde. if you have a good idea of what software you might be using hook yourself up with a WM like fluxbox, openbox, awesome, or something else. kde and unity are the most bloated of all DEs so try to stay away from them (but again, they will still be better than windows, SOMEHOW, resourcewise so if you like unity go for it)

I'm pretty much new so I'm l0st. I'm just gonna use it for web browsing so I want something lightweight that will boot fast.

Why use a server OS?

Hey OP, can I hijack your thread for a minute?

I wanna get one of those "new" nerbooks; those shitty laptops with the 32 GB storage space where Windows itself takes up like 10, and the 2 GB of RAM that you pretty much can't update.

Which distro should I run with? I'm just going to lurk but I'll have a bunch of tabs open. If I can get YouTube playing smoothly at 720p I'd be happy too.

Really, OP? Really? No use trying to make us believe you didn't steal it
>>
>>51903859
its only considered a 'server os' because it doesnt come with any desktop programs, but it is still linux. this is a good thing for me since for reasons unknown all the distros come with weird shitty default programs and they are always a pain in the ass to remove and replace

Pretty sure you have the same netbook I do. I'm trying to install Puppy or DSL, since Lubuntu can't load the kernel for some reason, and Xubuntu is still too slow for my liking, but it doesn't need to be a full featured OS since it's a netbook for shitposting.
