Im getting a FiiO M3 coming in the mail after I busted my 5th Gen classic ipod. Seems like a great deal, highfi player for only ~$55 which is about how much you have to pay for a clip+.

Because smartphones play music as well as audio players nowadays. There is literally no reason to use audio player, get dac instead, top it off with decent music app (such as Poweramp, Neutron, Viper4Android) and you have got yourself a setup that audiophiles wouldn't mind using.

Although you are correct in that regard, I like having a standalone player because I don't want to receive a phone call/message when I'm listening to music. Sure I can set my phone on airplane mode, but that's a hassle.
I prefer a standalone player because it allows me to leave my phone at home if I want to enjoy music without interruptions, typically has better battery life, and weighs less.
