I've been trying to use linux (debian) for the first time for the past week and a half. I don't know how in the fuck you people are able to use this shit.

>terminal
Fucking why. How in the fuck am I supposed to understand how to use this? Am I supposed to google how to use this fucking thing and take notes for hours on end?

I don't give a shit about muh freedoms anymore. I just want something that fucking works and doesn't seemingly fuck itself up.

Why the fuck can't I just hook up a second monitor with a copied image of the first without spending 500 hours looking shit up.

At least Gnome looks nice, but this is ridiculous.

Why, if some people who develop distros, want their shit to be more widespread, why the fuck don't they make it simpler.

Jesus Christ.

I learned how to Linux a few years ago. Forget the command line for a bit until you warm up to the GUI and Linux as a whole. Then when you're ready, start trying to do stuff. Try to update your system via terminal. Try to copy and move files. Yeah you're gonna have to Google, but think of something to do, then try to accomplish it.

Learning Linux helped me out a lot landing my first IT job at a major company. Command line is used a lot in the real world. And knowing that under the hood functionality has helped as well.

these are surely hilarious replies, but the truth is that yes you will be doing a lot of googling and copy + pasting commands at first. The ones you use a lot you will start to remember, and you'll learn their options.

I recommend a raspberry pi or laptop with integrated graphics as your first linux machines. Also debian is great but it kind of expects you to know what you're doing. It gives you tons of freedom, so much freedom that it's possible to shoot yourself in the foot if you don't know what you're doing.

Come home, anon

>>51816700

should have started with Mint and went down from there

debian is strictly for servers and yes it is a piece of shit.

I've used pretty much every distro you can think of, anon. But like most, I started with Ubuntu, Debian is a little more advanced. You should start with non-unity *buntus or mint.

I just don't get this shit man.

I did fucking nothing, and now this is all I get when I try to download something from synaptic.

I try to do something, realize I have no clue how, resort to google, see 500+ things about it and just throw my hands in the air. It's small shit like this and I don't even know how to approach it.

It feel like I jumped down a hole and broke my god damn legs. I've never been so damn frustrated sitting in front of a computer.

I did that except I put a # in front of the second line that said cd. Seemed to have worked. I don't know a fucking thing abgout text edidting. guess that was my first thing. Never even heard of nano. I though VIM and EMACS were the only ones.

Guess I learned my first thing in nano.

It feels fucking great when I do manage to resolve an issue, but I'd rather not have to deal with them in the first place.

I really do want to learn how to do this, but god damn does it frustrate me. Whatever, hopefully I'll like the end product when I finally have a half decent grasp on what I'm doing.

yea, but debian stable is not stable in the sense you're used to, it's entirely overkill for regular desktop use to the point where it's more just "outdated", and can even be a pain for desktop use

debian also is pretty strict about non-free components, which can also be a problem hardware-support-wise

>more packages
than ubuntu? in stable? with the default of non-free repos disabled? nope

debian stable is not a beginner desktop distro, and isn't intended to be
