>AMD IS FINISHED & BANKRUPT

They've been finished and bankrupt for the past 3 years.
>>
>implying Intel will not rape ASRock for allowing this
>>
Intel will force mandatory microcode update to block this anyway

They have done it in the past and will do it again
>>
>>51810763
This is going to go one of two ways

>Intel sues AsRock for breach of contract and wins

Or

>Intel sues AsRock for breach of contract, but the courts turn around and slam Intel for anti-consumer practices for not allowing customers to do as they please with their purchase

This could be interesting.

>>Intel sues AsRock for breach of contract and wins
this is more likely
>>
>>51810806
What kind of contract? I'm pretty sure similar unofficial things have been possible on various board in the past
>>
>>51810824
Depends on AsRock's defence.

They could argue that this is the best interest of the customer and get some slack from that.
Or depending on the judge they could bring to light that there is no technical reason as to why a 4670k can be overclocked, but a 4560 cannot, thus we enter the land of anti-consumer practices.
And that is a familiar world for Intel's legal department.
>>
>>51810818
So how do microcode updates work? They can be loaded by the BIOS and the OS, right?
>>
>>51810837
No doubt there was something in the license agreement which states they can't do this shit.
>>
>>51810806
This has already been decided. Asrock allowed people to overclock k series processors on all chipsets. Intel told them to disable it or they wouldn't be allowed make motherboards any more. It's that simple.
>>
>>51810585
How is this bad for AMD?
They've already lost this segment of the market, if anything this is just bad for Intel's overall profitability in this market segment, since people are looking to overclock non k-series chips.
>>
So should I buy a mobo now, stash it, then buy a non-K when the BIOS update is released?
>>
>>51810763
It was first achieved with a hardware mod, asrick just figured out how to do it with a bios mod. there's literally fuck all intel can do.
>>
>>51810876
Can be updated via bios or through windows update, I'm not sure if you can go back once it updates.

You can already do base overclocking with AMD processors. Pic related is a 5350 with a locked multiplier of 20.5. Also uses the same stock cooler and still gets stable temps. You could probably OC locked FM2+ APUs as well like this too.

At least AMD won't include micro-code updates that bar locked processor from being overclocked.
>>
>>51811375
AMD aren't, and never will be, in a position to lock their processors.

Oh the humanity have people forgotten about the Holocaust already? Do people realise what the consequences of this are? If people are just allowed to overclock their locked processors, what stops them from committing hate crimes? Do they not realise this is a slippery slope to another Holocaust?

Do not participate in this. Intel is a major contributor and employer in Israel. To prevent HATE from spreading around do not go against the manufacturers recommendation. If you are serious about overclocking, the manufacturer has a line of processors made for overclocking. They are a perfect deal if you are looking to improve your gaming experience hehehee.....
>>
>>51811206
That's actually pretty neat. Isn't the 5350 like 40 dollars?
>>
Nobody will sue anyone, there will be a disclaimer. *might get d0xd by intelli* if you overclock, might not.
>>
>>51811206
>You can already do base overclocking with AMD processors.
I don't believe anyone ever disputed that. AMD never removed the ability to overclock the base clock in the first place. Technically I don't think Intel did either they just made everything run on the same bus and if you overclocked the base too far it would cause other hardware to malfunction and become kill. Skylake apparently changed that?
>>
>>51811796
No, intel is just a fucking jew. OC'ing the base 10-20 mhz is perfectly ok. Anything above that is dangerous and like you said can kill components.
>>
>>51811796
But this makes jewtel look bad. Their non-k chips can be overclocked but jewtel doesn't want that. AMD doesn't doesn't give a fuck. That alone makes AMD better than intel.
>>
>>51811206
>You could probably OC locked FM2+ APUs as well like this too.
You can but you need a motherboard capable of overcloking the base. Even then I think most can't go past 15 mhz.
>>
>>51811426
but isn't the athlon 5350 a locked processor?
>>
>>51812026
The fact that they have turbo boost means they have untapped potential. This just makes them run at the max turbo boost speeds all the time pretty much. The difference is with turbo boost the CPU keeps an eye on the temps and adjusts the clock accordingly and the max voltage is locked so you can't push the chip to risky levels.
>>
>>51812206
The multiplier is locked. The base clock isn't locked on AMD CPUs. There's more than one way to overclock.
>>
...but you have to buy an assrock.
>>
>>51812356
What's wrong with that?

>>51810585
Finally I can upgrade from my i5 750.
I'm not paying one cent extra to Intel for the right to overclock, and AMD isn't performing competitively currently.

kek, laughed more than I should have.
>>
>>51810585

Except BCLK overclocking is nothing fucking new.
Same thing with my own 4790 non K (105mhz BCLK).
The downside is it changes the timings for idunno, fucking everything.
>>
>>51812529
You can overclock non k haswell bclk?
Wat?
>>
They were laughing when I bought an i5 6600

Where are "they" now?
>>
>>51812795
Intel is going to patch this with a micro-code update. I hope from now on your motherboard will never connect to the internet.
>>
>>51812795
>i5 6600

Right here faggot, and I'm still laughing
>>
>>51812614
Not him, but of course you can, technically.

The only problem is going even 1 MHz over base clock with pre Skylake boards can cripple every other component on the board. Skylake is apparently different in that respect.
>>
>>51812857
Fuggin kek
>>
So Skylake has an indenpent BCLK like the old LGA 1366 Nehalems? Nice.
>>
>>51812852
perhaps he could you know, just not update it?
>>
BASEDROCK
>>
>>51810876
the bios ones can be rolled back with a tool named ubu. the Windows ones would need to be patched out of microcode.sys, which would either have to be a driver patch or a memory hack.
>>
Maybe not the best thread to ask this but.. i have an bequiet 400 watt, pentium g3257, 8gb adata ram 1600 mhz, msi z97-s02, gtx 650! and i just ordered a gtx 960 strix 4 gb because i got it cheap, for like 200 dollars in sweden and its really cheap in here because of the taxes and shit, otherwhise it costs 300 dollars. Now! will the 960 work with my pentium.. i mean will it handle games still good like gta and bo3 ? I just want to know if i should clock the processor because im using a bequiet rock cooler atm.
>>
So I can buy an i3 6100 and boost it to 4.7 ghz? Cool
>>

>>
>>51813031
lolno
>>
>>51813031
Just because Techspot's i3 made it to 4.7 at 1.35 volts doesn't mean that yours will.

There's even no guarantee the Board itself will make it to 127 MHz.
>>
didn't MSI have a similar breakthrough technology where you could add a second graphics card of any make/manufacture?
something like the big bang fuzion or some retarded shit like that?

Anything above 20mhz base OC will most likely kill components on the motherboard. I would only OC 10 mhz just to be safe.
>>
http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/

This existed for a long time.
>>
>>51813171
aren't the motherboards z-chipsets that this works on? they should be fine because they're designed to take overclocks.
>>
How is this any different than AMD during the Athlon and Phenom 2 days? Athlon x2 could be core unlocked to x3. X3 to x4. And some phenom 2x4s were capable of being x6s and stay stable.

Amd took a little while to release the P2x6 black edition with an ublocked multiplier. People got around this by FSB clocking and Northbridge manipulation.

The limitations of the chip should have nothing to do with the board manufacturers. Ibdont remember AMD kicking down any doors when motherboards starting coming equipped with core unlockers in their BIOS.

>>51813325
Thus you have revealed the Intel Jew.

Fuck off marketer.
>>
If Asrock did this via BIOS, there's fuckall Intel can do about it, since it's out of Intel's hand. Intel's fucked until they can re-lock non-K processors until they reach Cannonlake, ETA 2017.
>>
>>51813617
I'm more interested in responses from other motherboard manufacturers i.e. Asus, Gigabyte and MSI.

But that's literally the reason Intel dose this in the first place. It's a monopoly at this point.
